Konig Hypergram 17x8 ET+45. Hankook RS-4 225/45 ZR 17. Needed 15mm spacers upfront and 5mm in the rear. I will probably change the rear to 15mm before I hit the track on Friday. I'll probably have more feedback on the tire size and choice after that.
Car is sitting on KW V2. I had to raise the suspension a little to clear the spring perch up front. I was below the minimum height anyway, so it kind of worked out. The car is now at the lowest it can go per KW's specs. Probably safer that way.
Are the 15mm front spacers to clear the JCW calipers? The 5mm in the rear looks about perfect. What are you running for camber front and rear?
Thanks!
2.5 upfront and 1.5 in the rear. I'm probably going to adjust it after I get some temperature and wear readings this weekend. These are supposed to be the track wheels, but I don't want to take them off lol.
The 15mm upfront was necessary to clear the spring perch on the KWs. When I test fitted the wheel without a tire or spacers, the Konigs cleared the JCW breaks easily. The 245 tire is just all up on the strut. After raising the suspension 8 turns front and 4 turns rear and adding the spacers I have about 8mm of space between the perch and the tire and about 10mm of space between the rear trailing arm and the rear tire.
Thanks for the tip on Goodwin Racing! They got these wheels and the hubcentric rings to me in under a week!

Glad to help! If you bought the wheels from him, send a picture with your tire size and spacers. He has a running thread in his own forum to show off the wheels.
Suspension:
BC BR series coilovers w/ camber plates - lowered 1.4in from stock height
Swift Springs (7k front, 5k rear)
Adjustable rear control arms - lower arms only
Brakes:
R56/JCW front brakes (294mm rotor)
Stock rear brakes
Trimming:
Plastic fenders arches are trimmed as close to the edge as possible
Fender liner outside edge is trimmed back 1.0in
No sheet metal trimming needed
I've been working on this build since January and just recently planned out my wheel & tire setup:
Looking good! Also good to know that 225 wide can be done on an R53 without rubbing. I might try that size with my 16x8 ET34 wheels. Are your front spacers for clearing the struts?
Hi everyone first post. Totaled my BMW 335 just bought 2015 countryman s all4. I have a set of OEM BMW style 189 wheels with blizzack snow tires I used on the 335. These are 5/120 like the mini but not sure about size and offsets. I tried searching forum but did not find exact combo for a reference point. I have a square set of tires mounted 225/45R-18 , 2 wheels 8Jx18EH2 +is 34 and 2 wheels 8 1/2 J x 18EH2 + is 37.

@JKo Thanks man. Yes, without any spacer my tire just barely skims the paint on my BC strut body. I could probably get away with a 2mm spacer.. if I could find one.
And yeah my 225/45s do work but the measurements are very precise. So much so that your 34 offset instead of my 35 might mean you don’t need a spacer in the front, depending on your strut body diameter and spring perch location.
To be honest I couldn’t find any R53s running this size without rubbing or wide fender arches when I was planning mine out, but the math worked so I took a shot.
Also, I paid special attention to the actual section width of the particular 225s I choose. The Toyo R1R tend to have a rather square shoulder, meaning the section width of mine may very well be a few mm narrower than some other 225s.
Not sure if you’re still running -1 camber all around like in your post above. You’d likely have to add some camber in the rear. I’m at -1.9 in the rear currently and it just sneaks by the trimmed fender arches.
I’d be stoked to have a 225 brother though! So happy hunting!

P.S. This is my current strut body clearance afforded by my 3mm spacer.

Looking at that pic I'd say mine would probably clear without the spacers... need to check that clearance with my current 205 wides. The AD08R is a bit on the wide side for a 205 tyre tho.
I really wouldn't want to add more rear camber, but maybe adding adjustable upper control arms would help tuck them in (at the cost of more toe out).

Correct. with both upper and lower control arms you’d have control over the rear track (distance between the rear wheels).
I didn’t measure the potential distance for decreasing rear track, but from memory I would guess you can pull each wheel inward 10-15mm before becoming problematic.
Here’s a great little tech PDF on how steering and suspension adjustments influence driving characteristics. It was very helpful in improving my understanding of gen 1 geometry.
i got 225/50/16 on tein springs. the front is 100 perfect but the rear gets a little rub here and there. i got 16x8 with 20 offset. r53 hope this helps you out.
so far I have enkeis rpf1 16X8 with 195/55/16 from the stock wheels. using H&R springs
want to get bigger tires when I'm ready not sure what size i should go with.. really like the look and feel of beefy tires but at the same time i dont want it to look like 4x4 or deal with rubbings...
205/50/16is very common..
wonder if i can go with 225/45/16or 225/50/16
215/50/16 maybe? or they stop making that tire size?
Much thanks to all the information provided here. Also have to thank Good-Win Racing and the local Portland Miata community.
Picked up a barely used set of Konig Hypergrams from a local Miata owner. Sourced all the goodies to mount these up given my preferences:
- 14 x 1.5 stud conversion
- 14 x 1.5 open ended lug nuts
- 15mm spacers all four corners
- 57.1 to 56.1 hub centric rings for the spacers to hubs
- 73.1 to 57.1 hub centric rings for wheels to spacers
The above setup results in more grip and a wider stance (obviously), with the tires just protruding the fender flares by about 3mm front and rear. Spent a lot of time researching on here and other forums, as well as playing with different options on willtheyfit.com to get proper offset.
Ride quality is greatly improved from the narrow OEM R98 wheels with run flat tires. I can drive over a manhole now and don’t wince.
Note that I am on stock suspension. Planning on BC Racing coilovers eventually.
OEM R98 Web Spokes with 205/45 17. New wheels and tires crammed into the MINI. Precious cargo.

17x8+45 with 235/40-17 and 15mm spacers?
Looks good at stock ride height. My guess is that you’ll get rubbing when lowered. That a LOT of tire for a Mini.

Yeah, drop will only be about an inch. Not interested in rolling or cutting fenders. I looked in to the VAD Designs fenders but I decided not to go that wide. I can also decrease the spacer size if I want to go lower.
Yes, it’s a lot of tire—I wanted the grip. Had planned to go wider but decided it wasn’t worth the cost for the wider fender flares.

Hell I'm surprised it doesn't rub now. I read 15mm spacers and looked at my car and I don't see how haha.
I guess the Pro-Kit springs and the extra ~2.4% tire diameter on mine really mess up the offset options.
Also good shout on the 235s. I've been annoyed at myself about cheaping out on the larger diameter 225/45 because I know it makes the car lose some of the go-kart-iness.
I mean the width will do it a little bit too, but not like the extra diameter.
I'm so used to having to choose between 225 and 245, I always forget the "odd" widths that exist in 17s.
