Code 2096 "Post CatalystFuel Trim SystemToo Lean, Bank 1
How long have you driven it after repairs? I was chasing this code on my car too. I finally got it to go away after replacing the exhaust manifold. even though the manifold I couldn't find any cracks. It takes 6 full drive cycles of the code to not be detected for the car to clear the pending code and 40 for it to clear the recorded code. Or you can clear adaptions. I don't have a code reader that can clear adaptions. Mine finally went off today. after repairs on sunday.
I've driven the car about 25-30 miles since I worked on it and did those changes. I know that if this light is still on I won't pass emissions testing here. What brand of exhaust manifold did you go with for your car? The oem is pricy; i've seen them for more reasonable prices on rockauto.com from brands like walker, bosal, and eastern, but just thought I'd ask you what you went with and what did it for you? Thanks for the input.
I purchased OEM used here for $200. made sure the parts car did not have this code. as for drive cycles

luckily for me my commute to and from work checks all these boxes each time. but you need 6 of these for the light to go off. 40 to clear the code. I think if you are close to inspection. you better find an independent mini mechanic and pay the $ to have the adaptions cleared. or buy a code reader that will clear them. I read there is one on amazon that will do it for $70.

If you have put in the NTK 02 sensors, that definitely helps. Any performance issues with the car or the light is on and no specific symptoms?
My son's car had the same code, turned out to be the rear 02 sensor. Took about 3 or 4 days of commuting back and forth to school for the light to go out. You may just need to do more drive cycles. If you're in a hurry, the only way is to go to a shop and have them clear the adaptations.

My 2004 S has this code now. I checked for leaks, none as far as I can tell. I changed the post cat O2 sensor with a Bosch sensor, no dice. I've since heard that Bosch sensors for this car are not what they used to be, so that may be the issue. I'm going to replace both O2 sensors with NTK this week. Based on what I've read in this thread I doubt this will be the fix.
Seems a software update will be in order. Problem is, the mini dealer in my area I will not do business with. They diagnosed a simply alternator bad bearing as a bad supercharger (I took their word and replaced the supercharger myself), so I can't see myself going back to them. The next closest shop is an hour away. As much fun as this car is to drive, I'm near the end of my rope with it.
I'm hoping the O2 sensor do the trick, I just need to get the damn car to pass inspection.

If you haven't purchased the NTK sensors, there is a post in the classifieds of a seller who's liquidating a bunch of items including new factory 02 sensors.

Thanks!
Teach me something on this, when you reset the codes with a high end scanner I assume reset means reset and all pending codes should be erased. My 2003 MINI base will not clear the the code , always pending, HELP! As number 5 said, I need more input, LOL!!
Count me in. Just read this post today. My 2004 MCS throw out the P2096 code the other day. Bought car new, only 70K kms to date, well taken cared for the past 22 years and driven summer season only. FYI, I have the P0420 on/off for many years due the headers despite adding O2 spacer.
I tried to clear P2096 fault using my iCarsoft 910 and Thinkdiag TKD01 but comes back the moment I start my car. I don't notice loss of performance other than poor gas mileage.
From what I read on this thread, if leak test is good, the post cat O2 sensor replacement seems to be the easy answer but will it clear adaptation by itself?
Love my car and keeping it forever and would like to fix this.
Engine Mods: Alta 15% SC reduction pulley, JCW 380 cc injectors, Mynes 4:1 headers, Ireland Engineering cat-back exhaust, Cold air intake & RMW dyno tuned.
