I have an 06 R53 JCW. The flex joint in the exhaust downpipes rusted through about 18 months ago. I replaced it with a Scorpion manifold without a cat. Some time after the work, the SES light came on with the P2096 code, and I've been chasing O2 sensor remedies ever since through using spark plug antifoulers and steel wool. Different combinations have been unsuccessful so far, but yesterday I installed a 90º adapter on the first O2 sensor, but have not driven it yet.
Doing a lot of reading here on the forums made me start thinking about various possibilities of vaccuum leaks around the place, so I thought I'd poke around a little to see what I could find. Tonight I pulled the airbox apart since I have not done so in my time of ownership, and I noticed several vaccuum lines were brittle or partially missing in the vicinity of the airbox. Some photos attached.
Would anyone be able to help me figure out where the lines go? JCW airbox looking straight down. The vac hose is broken at the joint, but can't find where it's supposed to go. Maybe it just lays inside the airbox?
Don't know what this is but it was attached to the side of the airbox. There is a vac attachment elbow, one branch pointing to the rear and I have the hose it attaches to, but where does the one pointing down go? There is a vac line inside the airbox, I guess that line goes to the downpipe of this 90 degree joint?
Final picture. The vac line that goes to the rear attaches to the back port of the previous picture; I guess the vertical port somehow connects to the tube going into the airbox?
Any thoughts are appreciated. What size hose is it?
@MINI_42 My 2004 R53 just got the this P2096 the other day. Did you resolve yours?
Note: I have the P0420 for many years due to headers & 200 cell cat that I can clear with my iCarsoft or Thinkdiag but not the P2096.
Hey there, I did get rid of it, joyfully. I used a right angle O2 sensor adapter plug...I ordered 2 of them, but only used one. If I recall correctly, it is in the downstream port. It was very similar to this one: https://jcarpart.com/products/1pc-m1...hoCXakQAvD_BwE
I sold the car like an idiot, since I needed a more reliable car for work. I did not think I could afford to store it, but am kicking myself about it. Occasionally I look to see if I can find another.
