R59 EZ Pass question
EZ Pass question
Is anyone else having a problem with your ez pass transponder working next to the rear view mirror? I tried two of them and neither work in my roadster. I think it's the rain sensor that messes with the electronics of the transponder. Because they both work in my Murano. It took some explaining to be able to order an external one that goes on the front plate. I hadn't even noticed it because I always go through the express lane. Then one day I was on the PA turnpike and noticed it didn't register. I'll see when I get the external one.
I have one of the Massachusetts Fast Lane passes in my Clubman, that also has the rain sensor. It's next to the sensor box on the right side, and working fine.
I have one in the Roadster too, but I haven't been through a toll plaza with it stuck there yet.

I also had problems in NH when it was mounted with the velcro near the rear view mirror. I put it on the dash on a non-slip mat. It works fine there. Go EzPass.
I do not have a rain sensor.
My transponder is 5 years old, so the battery may be low.

Mine is mounted to the right side of the mirror right next to the rain sensor and I have no problem with it there over the last 4+ years.
Please also note that the rain sensor is Optical, it sends out a beam of light and the difference in reflection of a clear window to a wet window is what makes it operate the wipers so in reality there should be no reason the rain sensor should interfere with the transponder. The transponders are Radio Frequency only.
The only thing i can think of that would make it not work up in that area is if it is actually behind the black painted part of the windshield. The pain there is metalic and will cause problems with the transponder if it is behind it.

Mine is mounted to the right of the rain sensor to, no issues at all and I get on and off the pike several times a day.

I did have an external one for a while and had problems with it consistently on the fast lane on the AC Expressway and the toll on 87 into PA from New Jersey. It never registered going into PA and that toll has gates so it was particularly annoying.
But if you don’t have a sunroof....
