R56 What Did You Drive Before Your R56?
I had a beautiful 2008 BMW 335i hardtop convertible, fully-loaded with sports package and everything. I loved that car! But the fiancee and I are getting married in May, so to save up some extra cash (calculated an extra $400/month) I traded her in for my Mini S. Thank goodness too because I don't know how the 335 would have been in this last snow storm! My Mini, however, was a tank in the snow! I was shuttling people everywhere lol. I can't wait to put blizzaks on it!
Sometimes I do sigh, though, when I see other 335 convertibles driving by with the top down....
Oh well!

I just sold my Red Line! That's how I got the money for my 2012 MCS.
Do you still have it because I want it!
I actually thought the mkIII was the 1st gti state side. Such a sweet car.
I don't.
If it makes you feel any better, the photo above was from a few years ago. Since then, it evolved rolls from garage queen to daily commuter and that took a toll on the poor 20 year old car. So it was in a bit of a sad state when I sold it. But the guy I sold it to had been bugging me to buy the car for months, and he's currently fixing it back up. I let it go for cheap.
Can we stop talking about it now? I'm at work and my coworkers get annoyed when I sob at my desk.

Soooo beautiful. I love the BBS's. Would love to own one. Was it pretty reliable or did it have it's fair share of issues? You should have had it lowered!
Not. Helping.
And factory Recaros too.
Ya know, VWs aren't known for their reliability, but this car was rock solid. I bought it with 40k miles in '99, drove it for 12 years and sold it with 110k miles. No major problems. Just minor/routine stuff. The biggest thing I replaced in recent memory was a fuel pump last year. (A bonus being that with 80s technology, bonehead me could actually fix stuff on it)
The biggest issue with these cars was a self-nuking transmission - which happened on my previous 87 GTI - But I drove the poop out of that thing. I don't recall if the tranny issue was resolved in later years, but I never had any issues with my 92. It's been the most reliable car I've owned (although my only comparison is my other VWs
).
But my fingers are crossed that my experience with MINI reliability will be similarly favorable.
I took some pride in having a fairly stock/unmolested specimen. I did have a chip and non-obnoxious exhaust - but that was the extent of it. The new owner is going the whole lowered-with-wide-wheel-lips-and-stretched-tires route. I hope it turns out tasteful. Or maybe I don't.
I must say, that it warms my heart that a quintessential German hot-hatch is feelin' the love here... You guys might just be cool after all...

So i figured this would be as good a place to make my first post as any. I got a 2012 White Silver MCS 10 days ago.
It is my new daily driver, I had a 2008 BMW 135i that had the lease end and I had the idea that I could buy an old truck to use for a while so I bought a '65 Chevy C-10 which I love but it only gets 8 mpg so I decided to get a Mini which is both more practical and a lot more fun to drive. The truck now makes a great second car.

2005 GMC Sierra. No extras. Not even AC or carpet. It was a great truck, and it took me all over the country.
It wasn't the most practical automobile for my current driving situation though, and I traded it in for my Mini. I don't regret my decision at all, but even though my Mini's pretty much stock, with very few bells and whistles, I wish I could get a more stripped down version of it. Less to break or fail on me, and there's something about owning a car that is only designed for the sole purpose of driving.

2008 Honda Accord sedan. Great car, decent mileage, but no where near as fun to drive as the MINI. Some days I miss that car, then I get behind the wheel of Stinky, and I don't miss it anymore. Plus, I can borrow the wife's '12 Accord lol.
Hello ladies and gentlemen - first post. This is an awesome forum (not that you didn't know that already) and I'm having a blast going through all the old, long threads.
This past Saturday I bought an 07 R56 in Chili Red, black interior. What a blast!
I traded in my faithful F-150 for it. I was getting around 11 mpg in that - so I've nearly tripled my fuel economy, or, put another way, I'm spending a third on fuel than I was previously. Bought if for the fuel economy and looks, ended up loving it for the exhilirating driving experience. I was not expecting the go-kart feel ... it's great.
Here it was, sitting on the lot where I found it:

Here it is getting ready to go to the gig last Saturday night; I can fit all my gear in it for a gig at the local pub.

Regards,
Scott A

I traded my 2008 Scion xB. I downgraded to the xB from a Lexus IS300 to save on gas but after about 4 years on the Scion I found myself missing the performance so I opted for a MCS so I could have a bit of both.
I haven't owned a car in 8 years prior to buying my Camden.
My last car:
1987 Toyota Celery GT. Her name was Angelica the Celica. Sadly, I can't find any photos I took of her back in the day. But the one below is exactly the same: non-hatchback & gunmetal colored.
5 speed manual-- the stick shift was as long as my forearm! It only had 115 hp but it also only weighed 2,600 lbs, so the fun-factor was high! Drove it for about 50,000 miles and the only problem I had was 1 flat tire.
Here's to hoping I get the same kind of reliability in Sterling (my Camden)!

2005 Infinity G35 Coupe. Very fast, like the MINI, and fun to drive, but not as nimble. Much lower, longer and louder. My wife hated riding in it, but loves the MINI and it has become our commuter car. In fact, we later sold her Lexus because she never drove it as she drives the MINI so much and I have the old Ford Explorer for when the MINI is not available!
I did not mention the aftermarket huge anti-sway bars, Bilstein shocks and Borla Exhaust. For an SUV it is very nimble. Also I have replaced the entire front suspension at this point.
We looked at one of those (actually I think it was an xD) when shopping for something to replace our 2003 Civic. It was a no deal as soon as I sat in the drivers seat and my head hit the ceiling no matter what I did with the seat controls.
No such problem in the MINI! I later traded my 2006 Mazda3 for the clubman as well. I really liked that car but it was a bit of a gas hog and was starting to rust (!) on the hatch.
