R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
Love this forum and especially this thread. Way better than any manual! Certainly more entertaining!

The device the rear of the seat latches to is L shaped And can be pivoted to provide a longer arm positioning the seat back more forward when latched. Seat base stays the same And fold down position is unaffected.
Not sure if anyone else experienced this; but I just rotated my tires from front to rear and no matter what I did, the MINI logo's just didn't line up.. whilst it was jacked up they were both positioned the same.. them once car was on the ground.. not so much..
Huh?
I was in the MINI checking out more things I didn't know about my R56. Had already started it with key in pocket, then girlfriend and her friend wanted to run an errand. You all can probably guess what happens next. Off they went without key! Fortunately only 4-5 miles down the road when they realized it and made a U-turn.
Today I tried the repositioning of the rear seats to a more upright position as I've seen described here at least a couple times. Those of you who have had passengers ride in seats positioned so are no doubt sadists.

I don't see what the big deal is with the alarm chirp. The audible notification is there for a reason, why not use it if one finds that beneficial or useful? Yes, some may find it mildly annoying out in a public/commercial setting (in a quiet neighborhood I can see how it would be an issue) but tough crap, since I find it more annoying and inconsiderate when those same people are the ones who damn well can't take the effort to park considerately next to you. I don't sound my alarm chirps when someone walks by or is next to my car UNLESS they are asking for it. And by that I mean the type of inconsiderate tards that lean on your car, rubs up against it or decide to let their brat swing their door into the side of your car. Car alarms, chirps, fart cans, horns, etc are just part of the urban musical landscape if you will...annoying yes, but it would probably behoove most of us to not get worked up over such small things (myself included).
Hokey Pokey
Half way through the posts, at 1305 and still finding things I didn't know. Wow, is this fun, or what! I had to laugh out loud when reading some of the longer procedures to accomplish a task and the Hokey Pokey song came to mind.
You push the fob button in, you let the fob button out, you push the fob button in then you turn it all about, you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around, that's what it's all about........or how you open the boot!

I agree VF! Just discovered that Friday after packing for first weekend getaway in MINI. Stood there, parcel shelf in hand, and it hit me...Why not there? PERFECT!
I discovered that the MINI is smart enough not to roll the windows all the way up when the door is open. It leaves it down just enough to snug it up when you close the door and not hit the window as the door is closed.
but there is a multi-quote button (the "+) or you can just open quote things in multiple tabs then copy & paste into one instead of posting several times in a row.
The metal key works both ways, it will also roll down the windows and vent the sunroof panels just like the fob.
Although the standard fob will not close windows (or sunroof) with lock button, won't Comfort Access fob do it?
Or is it just the black button that does the complete close and lock.

I copied this list to my Notepad application in windows, saved it in Mini Cooper folder, and printed out a hard copy for my glovebox. Just as valuable as any tool!
Use cassettes in a portable cassette player plugged into auxilary. Of course for any new books you would have to transfer from cd to cassette, but I bet you can still find older books on cassette at auction sites and garage sales. I guess it all depends on your level of frustration with playback issue.

I download audio books to my iPod and play using the Y-cable. The iPod remembers where I stopped the last time and picks back up at the same spot.
You have an umbrella that fits in there? One that'd fit would barely cover my head.
I think it might be for water dripping in, but it's puzzling.
I'm also trying to figure out the utility of the side cubbies in the back seat. I've had the car 3 weeks and I just noticed those.

About Your Mini Videos
Someone posted this over on the Week 40 forum and I thought this would be a good place for it: http://www.miniusa.com/AboutYourMini/. Most of the videos here are about the nifty things you just sort of learn about...or may not.
Here is one item that might be of interest to our newer owners. This was discussed over a year ago, but you're not likely to notice the thread. It's NOT in the manual as far as I know. Here 'tis:
If you're a distance from our car and want to unlock it, you'll find better reception distance if you touch the key fob to your cheek as you press the button (regular access). There has been a lot of speculation as to what causes this, and some have said it's an urban legend of the MINI world, but I can personally state that it works. One theory is that our sinus cavities create an antenna of sorts.
Around the time it was first discussed, my husband and I happened to go on a picnic. The park had a lot of trees and hilly ground. I'd gone up to the car for something and realized that I had forgotten my key. I yelled to my husband to "click the car," but he couldn't get it to open. He was a little down hill and far away that I had to shout, but even though he held the key as high as he could reach, it wouldn't unlock. I hollered back that he needed to touch the key to his cheek, and it unlocked immediately. He later told me he'd thought I was nuts, but was amazed that it actually worked the way the thread said it would! Dunno know why it works.

Or if you have a computer you can rip your audio books to a thumb drive and play them through the USB next to the Aux input. You can control that right through the radio controls and if you get one of the small USB sticks no one will ever see it.
