That is because the computer modules are still active. As soon as they transition to sleep, the lights turn out.

I have the JCW temp gauge and during the first drive I was seriously scared the car was going to blow up watching the needle! Now I know it just runs hot unless I'm at full ac or cruising at 65 for a while.

If you push and hold the switch in one direction it will go to full brightness. Going the other direction and holding makes it rotate thru the colors. I think it blinks so you know you held long enough. It works in my 2013 MCS. I don't know if it works in other models or in all older cars. Try it and let us know.

I just leave the A/C turned on and let it do its thing automatically. I'm not sure if it turns off the A/C when its cold, and I'm not particularly worried about that.

Whew!

Three days of reading 2708 posts about a car that I will probably never drive because my wife is having just too much fun with it.

The 2013's MCS can not be programed to unlock by using the MINI turn signal stalk push button. It can be programed using the MSC Expert (may have wrong letters). See stickies in the electrical section. Older MCS cars could be programed to unlock with the MINI buttons. I'm not sure if 2013 was the first no program year or not.

Whew! Finally finished. I started reading about a week ago when my sister mentioned she wanted to sell her 2007MCS. Her ex ordered it in mid 2007 and this thread has helped me understand the majority of the bells and whistles. I have been "test" driving it for the last five days and have already paid for it. Just have to wait until wednesday to meet up with her and get the NC title so I can register it here. Very cool car. It is a dark blue, but I have no idea what the color is called.
The fun factor takes me way back to my first car, a '59 Alfa Romeo Spyder and a couple I had when I was in Japan, a Honda 600 Sport and a Skyline GT.

I would like to take this time to thank you folks for some informative and entertaining reading.

I found that when carrying my Mini keyfob and my Vette key fob in my pocket at the same time, the signals interfered enough that I had to manually unlock the door and place the mini fob in the dock to start it. None of the comfort features worked. It's an old '96 Vette that has the proximity lock/unlock/alarm feature and I guess it was a little too intimidating for the Mini. Once I hung the Vette key back on the rack everything went back to normal.

If you leave the snowflake light on then the compressor can run if needed, but the main thing is the air goes throught the cabin filter with the snowflake on and it dries it out or something. Maybe the compressor has to be on for that to happen.

How to do Brake Maintenace RESETS on my 08 R56

The instructions reference the following numbered devices:

(5) Lower Display

Entering Service Menu:

Insert Key

Do not press clutch / brake

Press Start Button

Wait until Car / relevant Service symbol disappears from Rev Counter Upper Display (4)

Press and hold both Rev Counter Buttons (1 & 2) immediately after symbol goes out

Continue to hold both Buttons until Time appears in Rev Counter Upper Display (4)
Before this occurs:
  • An Instrument Light Check will be performed
  • "VIN / Menu" will appear in Rev Counter Lower Display (5)

Release Right Hand Rev Counter Button (2)

Wait about a second

Press and hold Right Hand Rev Counter Button (2) again while still holding Left Hand Button (1)

After a second or two the Front Brakes symbol will show in the Rev Counter Upper Display (4)

Installing a new factory Mini car cover is about as easy as putting a condom on a cantaloupe! Just had that fun experience a few minutes ago.

Just as a side note, the AC compressor cycles whenever the AC button(snowflake) is on, or the defrost mode is enabled. Even if the AC button is off, if you have the defrost mode on, the AC compressor will still cycle. A lot of car manufacturers are having the HVAC systems run with the AC mode enabled full time (with the option to manually turn it off, of course). This is how the "auto" option is able to do its thing (and the reason the AC turns on automatically when you press the auto button). It can cycle the AC compressor when cold air is needed, and on the flip side it dries out the air so when the heater is on, the windows never fog up.

My pet peeve:

Be ready to go to work, or wherever. Wipe down the whole car with a towel, drying any overnight moisture. Car is gleaming, looking like brand-new. Spotless!

Driving. Something lands on windshield - a bug, bird poop, maybe some window cleaner from the guy in front of me (hate when that happens - adjust your squirt aimers, people!) or just random crap. Anyway, something is on the windshield now.

Activate windshield washer squirters, run the wipers until the window is clean ...

Arrive at destination, get out, and entire car looks like crap because the wiper fluid ran streaming over the sunroof, across the side windows, down the side ... all over. Looks like total crap now.

Rageface.

Picked up a 2010 Cooper last night, was very pleasantly surprised to find that I have a spare tire and what appear to be non-runflats on my 16" wheels! Also happy to find that the previous owner had switched out from the carpet mats to the O.E. MINI all-weather liner mats.

Happiest to find that the Justa Cooper is still zippy enough to get around town and isn't a liability on the highway.

Just looking for reasons to drive places now :-)
