R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
The only way to do it is with NCS Expert. Can't do it with the left stalk programing. I will eventually get into the NCS Expert programing. There are threadds on it in the electrical section of this forum.
Voice Command button has been disabled!
Here is one thing on my brand new 2013 mini that I didn't know.
The glaringly obvious voice command button on my 2013 Mini cooper S is there for no reason at all!! Good job Mini, how to deceive your customers, and kuddos to the salesperson for NOT telling me before I bought the car!!!

No US R56s could do that, that I was aware of. First Gen MINIs could be programmed to auto unlock by a dealer setting.

There is a thread here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...13-models.html
Where someone has gotten it to work at the dealer level.
Don't know why it didn't come from the factory using the button, but it didn't.
Depends on how long it's been off. If it's been off for only a short period of time it will start where you left off; longer, and it starts at the beginning.
I listen almost exclusively to audiobooks, and it's a big deal for me. Most publishers are smart enough to have tracks about 3 minutes long, but there are a few who have much longer tracks. And unless I'm on a trip where I'm cruising for hours on end, MP3 CDs are OUT. It'll play them, but life's too short to try to find my place after stopping at the local Wally World or grocery store!
I'm hoping my next MINI won't have this annoying trait...or at least will have a much faster "fast forward."
Yup, this has actually been a topic of several posts. In my experience, it will start over at the beginning of the track if it's been longer than about 20 minutes. Less than that, and you're in luck. There's no way around it, either--I've tried every solution that's been proposed!
I just noticed something on my MINI. I haven't finished reading this entire thread yet so it might already be mentioned but here it is anyway. After you turn off the vehicle, exit, and lock the doors using the remote key fob, all the interior lighting turns off with the exception of the start/stop button led. BTW I don't have Comfort Access. It turns off after some period, probably the same as when the radio shuts itself off. Don't really know why you need the start/stop illuminated when you are outside the vehicle, the key fob is not in its slot, and the doors are locked, but look through the windows and there it is all lit up.
We had more than 300 Minis go down Lombard during last month's Magical Mystery Mini Tour.
I think they talked about it a couple of years ago, but there was an outcry that it might keep tourists away and having tour buses come by to show it to people would not have been a great alternative, either.

I will reply more once I get to those posts that are more relevant to a 2013 model - stuff changes quickly, and all of the knowledge and insight shared here is quite appreciated.
For now: here are a few of my first thoughts about the differences between my two MINIs.
Random things I don't like in the 2013 MCS vs. the 2002 MC:
Lack of temperature gauge (has been mentioned frequently).
Bonnet is not so deeply sculpted (I understand that to be less expensive to manufacture).
Headlights not integrated into the bonnet!
Oil dipstick much harder to read.
LCD accent lights in the interior - I wish that those were an option available to be deleted.
Inside boot handles are not as articulated.
Less storage available between the down tubes (earlier I had fitted an aftermarket felt / polymer insert that was great).
Center speedo is not as "clean" as the earlier design.
Radio / iPhone / iPod controls aren't on the backside of the steering wheel (I used the aftermarket DICE system to replace the boot's 6-CD changer).
Lack of the wraparound glass on the back quarter panels (again understandable in terms of cost of production).
And, my biggest complaint: no dedicated front plate mount drill hole sockets. Only "dimples" that led me to drill into the front bumper with nothing to receive the bolts or screws.
More below . . .Random things I like in the 2013 MCS vs. the 2002 MC:
Much quieter!
Much more spirited (especially after having just completed the 1200 mile break-in period)!
Better support from the sports seats.
H/K sound upgrade (wasn't available - "delayed" - when I spec'd my 2002 MC).
Much better suspension.
One-touch up and down window controls for both driver and passenger.
Sowellman - The reason that I chose to pop into this thread after your post has to do with the (original) Magical Mystery Tour.
The front of my former MC had a 1967 English long form black plate securely mounted with raised silver letters / numerals that read:
LGF 695D
Can you guess the reference and understand my frustration at not having a secure mount on the 2013 MCS?

I like the headlight holes, easier to polish just the headlights without having to worry about the chrome/paint
. But I never had them in the hood so what do I know. You can turn off the LED accents with the toggle switch in the headliner, just dim them off. I never notice mine and they are on full bright.
Storage space, ain't that the truth! Only place is the 'secret' glovebox to hold anything :-)
Interesting quirk I just discovered: I have a 2013 with MINI Connected. I've been using the OE Y-cable to connect my iPhone. Yesterday I was at my dealer for the car's first oil change. On a lark, I got an armrest adapter for the iPhone from the parts dept. When I installed the phone into the adapter, the phone appeared on the Connected display in a different position on the devices list than when it was connected via the y-cable. In addition, its icon in the little box on the Nav display was different with it in the armrest adapter. So far, so good, but here's the peculiar part:
Despite showing up as a different audio source, there was no audio from the phone in the armrest -- until I unplugged the (now unused) Y-cable from the jacks in the dash. Not sure why it works (or rather, doesn't) this way . . .

Alta and Out Motoring have temperature gauges as well, that bolt onto the back of the rev counter. I recall there's an option with MINI Connected to show temperature on the central screen. If you fit one, just be aware the car runs at boiling point most of the time, and drops down under hard running.

You can do the JCW temp gauge but it's expensive, or go scangauge, etc.

however i have mine set to disco mode when i unlock and open the doors.
Nope, cost has nothing to do with it. With the '07 models (first year of the R56), pedestrian-protection laws in Europe took effect. It's flatter to reduce injury if you hit someone. All manufacturers (except limited production companies) had to comply.
I was washing the car and i had the key in the slot but not pushed in.
I pushed the car backwards and the radio turned on!
Closed it, pushed it again to find out that my beloved car just wants music when washed!
Logical explanations?

Mine does too, but it goes out after a few minutes. I heard that's normal..
