After 2 years/40,000KM with my '12 MCSm, I discovered the burble and pop is deactivated when in reverse. I wonder why...

Maybe they thought nobody would be foolish enough to think they needed it in reverse . Seriously, do you know it is actually deactivated or is it that you haven't reached enough RPMs to make it pop and burble when you back off in reverse?

R56s have 3 engine maps: standard, sport and reverse. The engine map that's used when reverse is engaged has softer throttle response for easier, smoother reversing. Not sure if it has any other differences.

Only the MCS & JCW sport maps have the burble & pop (sport button is an option on the Cooper but without the burble and pop).

And now I know!
TKS!

Can't say that I like how utterly inter-related everything is on these (and seemingly all) modern machines, but save buying a relic, I suspect I'm stuck!

I found out that if you leave your sunroof tilted when locking your car - and setting the alarm - you can walk about 50 ft. away before it sets the alarm off. I ran back, couldn't imagine why the alarm went off, relocked the car, walked away and it went off again. Ran back again (calling myself some choice names), closed the sunroof . . . all was well!

the number one thing I didn't know was that THIS thread should have been required reading on day one of ownership... from intermittent wipers to sport mode... seriously, I taught myself manual in regular mode, afraid to put it into sport... and when I finally felt comfortable enough and did it, good lord was it easier to drive - who knew? oh, wait... you guys did...

Manual Rear Hatch Release under rear seat

While Dynamatting for my Seat Delete kit I found this cable under the rear seat that manually releases the latch to the rear boot door. It's located in the center and you have to pull up the seat to see it. I don't remember reading about this in my manual.

I have the ipod connected via factory usb and 1/8" connectors. standard boost radio, no NAV. If i increase the 'level' setting on the radio then the ipod gets louder AND each volume click on the **** makes a bigger adjustment. With it set to the default '3' you have to crank it a few clicks for it to make a difference. On 4 or 5 the difference is much better.

You can turn on the radio by just pressing the Mode button, at least on the LCI. Can't believe I'm finding new stuff after 6 years!

I had a wierd one happen twice this past week. I hit the up window button and the window went part way up (~1/2 way and ~1/4 way) than went fully back down. I remember reading this happening to someone else on here.

I did not hit the button a second time. I did not "hold" the button. My finger was off the button both times. Any idea why this happens sometimes?

My old car had the occasional gremlins. Would do weird things sometimes that would be gone on the next restart. Maybe they changed cars with me?

To fix it, hold the window switch down for 20 seconds after the window bottoms out. Then it works. It's to reset the safety closure mechanism. Mine was stuck after a cold snap.

it can also happen with a bump in the road. The entry yo my office has a speed bump just after the boom gate and often stops it closing. I assume it mistakes the bump for someone's head or limb interrupting the window.

The 2011 up base model r56 LCI has the same upper dimensions on the core-support as any r56 Mini Cooper S. Hence you could put a Mini S front bumper and or hood on a base Mini (2011-up) with no modifications. If you have a 2007-2010 Mini Base R56 the core-support configurations are different and without changing core support no way to slap on a MINI 'S' Front end. Check out my website! www.gousedmini.com

I've learned that I miss not having illuminated folding mirror and headlight switches. Having to feel around to un-fold the mirrors is annoying, and I keep forgetting which direction I need to twist the headlamp stalk to turn the lights on. Other times I forget to turn them off before I shut down the car...because it's not illuminated and I'm in the dark!
