I just want the heat shield. I bought the 07-10 AEM intake and modified it to fit my N18 (I knew this before I bought it.) The only thing I couldn't get to work is the heat shield.

Anyone that has installed the kit for the 07-10 N14, did you use t-bolt clamps? I am considering using them for a cleaner look, but would appreciate if someone knew the exact size t-bolt clamps I will need for each of the 5 connection points. I know that t-bolt clamps have a much narrower range of adjustment vs. standard band clamps, just not sure which size is ideal for each point.

Ok, so had a nice day today finally and got this kit installed. It is a thing of beauty. Just the right amount of extra turbo noise and recirc sound between shifts. Install was fairly straightforward. I think I spent as much time dremeling out all the openings on the scoop grill ( I did NOT like how it looked removed at all ) as I did installing the new kit. Took the car for a quick spin, was nice. No comment about butt-dyno or anything that could stir up an argument, but it pulled nicely. No doubt my old panel filter was dirty, didnt bother to look, but a clean filter was likely a huge contributing factor. Two thumbs up for AEM on this kit.

Maybe a silly question. But do you think the NM aircharge pipe will mate up to the AEM airbox?

The NM Air Charge pipe as nothing to do with the AEM intake. The air charge pipe just deletes the noise maker and won't effect the intake fitment.

Sorry I miss spoke. I meant the induction tube. This http://www.namotorsports.net/detail....rt_cd/NM658855

The carbon fiber piping that leads from intake to turbo inlet.

Ok folks, so I get my car back today....unfortunately there's no final product yet.

My car has a FMIC and catless DP etc....so it's not stock.

They are looking for a stock MCS 2011+ with the N18 engine.

It has to be a MANUAL, N18 engine, and no power mods.

If anyone is in the SoCal area and would like to volunteer their car just send me a PM and I will forward you their contact information.

Thanks!

AEM 21-699 Intake System ( LOVE IT)

I installed this system on my 08 R56. Perfect factory fit. One hour installation time. Everything fits perfectly and looks stock. The Ram Air scoop fits under the hood utilizing the original hood holes, so no drilling or fabrication. I did find the duct barely touches my JCW Strut Brace when closing the bonnet (hood). It is not a problem but you do feel it. I remedied this with my heat gun on a 6 inch section just before the airbox. By heating the duct til it's pliable I closed the hood and it molded to the shape od the brace which gave exact fit and clearence.
This is a truly well designed product and utilizes the original screw and grommets to the original air box. Exact fit to hoses as well.

Awesome update.

My main delay on this purchase is the strut bar. I've been waiting to hear something from AEM regarding the release of their bar. I've seen the prototypes, but nothing retail as of yet.

Do you have any pictures of your setup and the plastic modification you made? If its only a slight change in the airbox duct, I may just do the same and skip waiting for AEM bar.

Spring is here - its time to mod.

My biggest concern was the strut brace clearance to the scoop duct. I took a chance using the JCW brace and as I said it fits and is a bit tight. You can close the hood on it. I know it was touching a bit from the feel of closing as well as when I tried to open it I had to push downward to release the latch. I didn't take any pics of my modification. It didn't take much to fit right. This is only for the JCW brace. I saw others but was unsure it it would clear the duct enough. I can take a pic if needed. It was only a small section to heat and mold upward a bit to clear the brace.
Even without the mods I didn't see any harm in the fit as to warping my hood or damaging the duct.

ETA for AEM strut bar is late April.

They are still working on the N18 version intake.

There are two potential designs:

1)The same set up and the one offered for the N18 but would use the stock intake tube.

2)A set up that would make more power but utilize a different intake tube...current issue is the PCV system being the drawback.

They will decide what version to go with tomorrow after some more flow bench testing.

If you wouldn't mind, a picture would be great. I appreciate it!

Hey all, I've had this kit installed for a few weeks now and after some observations with intake temps etc I found that the intake is sucking in hot air from the engine bay area.

On the picture below you can see that the scoop feed is not sitting flush/correctly on the rubber seal. Has anyone on else had this issue, and how have you solve it! Seems like a stupid little flaw for such a great bit of kit.

MAF sensor doesn't look to be threaded thru the grommet. Maybe he was working on it?

Surely the fit is an issue if the scoop feed is leaving a gap in the seal. Has anyone else checked the fit of theirs to see if its a manufacturer issue, or an issue with fitting?

It would be nice to see if anyone else has this issue. Surely I cannot be the only one?

You noticed too? :D this is how i found it when I opened the bonnet. It has been off for some time too I think. Drove 15 miles earlier along motorway and it was nearly off again. Another issue that is starting to arise...how to keep it on?

To test the fit of the hood scoop duct to the air box after i had to make a modification to it for my strut brace I used play-doh with saran wrap on the airbox seal and closed the hood. This left an inpression on the putty as to how tight the hood scoop duct was fitting onto the seal. This is an easy way to find the leak.
Also the turbo heat shield should be used to prevent heat damage to the duct as well as heating the air inside the duct.
