The valve that is just to the left of the MINI emblem in the photos. It's off center. I noticed it was all gummed up with oil residue.
I see now. Mine was pretty tight too once installed but didn't cause any problems. That tube goes to your intake plenum (it is the reason why the intake valves need walnut blasting), it gets very brittle over time so don't try and push it around too much. Mine cracked right in half, PIA to get a new one back in there.
I have the same OCC setup you have too, not sure how the AEM strut brace works there. Shouldn't interfere though.
Ya not sure why they went without the connection pipe and turbo connection. Bad juju
My guess is, since the N18 engine has a hard tube going to intake instead of a soft tube like the N14 they figured it wasn't necessary. With the N14 it added rigidity. Spare for looks it won't change anything in the N18.

That being said, why is it more expensive?
Definitely affected the dyno numbers. Lol
6hp compared to the old rating

I'm sure they're different. The N18 Engine more HP than the N14 engine does. I figure the're is less benefit from the intake for the N18 vs N14. The rigid tube does more than you think, and since the N18 already has it, there is less to improve upon. Besides, intakes aren't really HP makers anyway. They more or less improve the powerband slightly and make wonderful noise
Noticed road salt residue in the scoop and on the cone filter while I was under the bonnet yesterday. Is there a solution for this? AEM suggests using the filter wrap they sell. I was thinking about re-installing the factory scoop grill to see if that would cut down the crap entering the filter.

I'll have to check mine out. If its not, it may be the difference in the type of salt that has been put on the roads...
same here, i had a filter wrap from K+N and put that on, problem solved. Ill clean the scoop after this crap winter is over here in the Northeast
I left work and was like hey I'll wash my car since it's alittle warmer than it has been. But then I remembered the crap making it's way to the filter... GRRR...where is spring?

I run a k&n wrap too. It makes a huge difference. Repels water and dirt. Keeps the filter really clean. I don't run the same intake but I always shut my car off during a wash cycle.

Not that far away. I ordered the AEM filter wrap. I really want to wash my car today. Need to figure out what I should do to keep from getting water in the intake. On a side note K&N owns AEM.

Why don't you stuff the scoop with a towel or even a T-Shirt.
I have the AEM 21-699C system on my 08 R56. The scoop duct barely touched my JCW strut brace. I indented it with a heat gun to prevent the rub. I removed my scoop grille and replaced it with a stainless mesh grille I made mysylf. It works great. No water problems even driving in rain. The mesh keeps the debris such as large bugs and leaves out. The pics are on my user album.
So I've had the AEM intake installed for just over a month. I love it but have noticed the BSH OCC is rubbing on the intake pipe. What would be the fix for this that? I'm going to be installing the AEM strut brace as well.
