Congrads hemi! A VIN number is GREAT news, it means your car is definitely being born as we speak (er...write?). I know Clubmans are the same way: only one Clubman is built for every few Coops. I'm sure it's the same for JCWs

The odd thing about the WWL site is that it doesn't appear to list the booking date (which was weeks earlier in my case) until the vehicle's actually been loaded onto the boat, at which point it appears retroactively. In my case, since the production slot was assigned to a California dealership and they knew it was going to be shipped, they had booked passage well before I ordered the car!

Right now I'm now pondering the huge effort that was going on 100 years ago to build the Panama canal and how here I am benefiting by shorter delivery times and costs for my new car in a new millennium as I watch the ship just clear the last lock from thousands of miles away in near real time. Amazing stuff!

this is a generally broad question, and I don't mean to overlap the helpful 'tracking your mini' thread, but the missing link in my searches is finding the ship that will ultimately carry your car home. I know the car's on the dock, I searched per VIN on WWL and didn't find anything, and the next ship is weeks away. I know that BMW does use other carriers. How are you folks finding your vehicle's boat, other than an MA telling you?

Orm: I assume the "Discharged" means it got off the boat and "Delivered From Baltimore" means it got sent from the port to the VDC? Why would the shipping line even care about that? Right now I have a "Liner Release". I guess the liner released it to the docks and it's no longer their car. Ahhh this might be the worst part of the wait because we simply have nooo clue once it enters the VDC. I tried contacted my MA today, no avail...

Dodgy: your status on the WW site will show up a few days before being put on the boat then

Third: this too is a crappy part of the wait...waiting for a boat. On the WW site, the VIN will be your cargo number, but it won't show up until a day or two before it's due to be loaded. When I hit the dock, I was only 3 days out from a ship. I don't think it actually even came up in the search until two days before leaving. Just keep trying and see what happens If you got a KLine boat, there's no way to know, or at least that I know of. But most seem to go via WW. Maybe check when you've been at the dock for a day or two, or when it gets closer to a boat time.

Here's my schedule on the WW site, for reference

LINER RELEASE BALTIMORE, MD 29-09-2010 16:22:58 DISCHARGED BALTIMORE, MD 29-09-2010 08:00:00 1 CUSTOMS RELEASE BALTIMORE, MD 28-09-2010 00:00:00 LOADED ON VESSEL SOUTHAMPTON 20-09-2010 11:38:00 1 RECEIVED AT TERMINAL SOUTHAMPTON 15-09-2010 07:12:00 1 BOOKED SOUTHAMPTON 12-09-2010 20:56:50 1

Orm: the recent updates seem to be in a batch. If you use GBSOU839833 as the Booking Number, it turns up a whole slew of cars. I assume all MINIs and all Priority 1s. Funny they'd batch process them, unless they're moving them all at once to the VDC. There's very little info on the B'more VDC on here, so it's unknown whether they run 24/7 or normal hours. Guess we'll find out soon..

thanks wahoo, definitely verifying what i did and what the friendly Track Your MINI thread suggested. If I'm on a WWL boat, it's going to be the Toledo, in mid October. Dang! Talk about, as the Smiths sang, stretch out and WAIT!
But hey, these are still the problems to have.
I do wonder if another boat such as KLine will jump in there in the meantime...

And let me echo the earlier statement about the Panama Canal. Imagine going around the Cape...

Whheeeee! Talked to my MA, Clubby is due to arrive at the dealer on Saturday!!!!!!
So..everyone asks about the stuff that goes on at the dealer upon arrival. Apparently, they run it through a diagnostics check that takes 8 hours, so they usually need the overnight part. Sooo, even if it arrives Saturday, I may not see it till Monday Now I guess I just gotta cross my fingers it pops up on Friday, or they can somehow magically do it all Saturday and I get it late that afternoon/evening.

Ahhh so close!

Do you guys know if they will make Visual Boost available for the US market later on in the year? I like the large display screen and simpler controls (joystick), but I don't want MINI Connected.

wahoo_shoe: Ok, here's dummy again, what is the WWL? I know the Ol, but not the WWL.

Speaking of the OL, can you believe that it showed up on the Owners Lounge that my JCW is now in Production? I, really can't believe it. It's really started. Seems so long. Now I have to start thinking about the Chesapeak Bay Cruise Ship. Talked with Mazda today a couple of times, they did say that I have a 10 day window, AFTER Nov. 6th, that I have to turn in the Miata. That makes that I will need the Lil Guy by November 16th. That should work, but you never know with all those U-boats and German Destroyers out, not to mention the Hurricanes and Cyclones and such. So, at least now, I know the process has started. I wonder what they got done today?

Nope, The US market is not getting Visual Boost (the cars that have it, were a mistake). Only way to get the screen, joystick as an orderable option is with Dec Production with MINI Connect or NAV with MINI Connected. I would say try and get one of the visual boost cars on dealer lots now.

wahoo_shoe and all:

Just got off the phone with Owners Lounge. Yeah, I know, but you don't. You see, I work the Graveyard Shift so I can call and unGodly hours and get right thru.

Anyway, they reaffirmed what I found out yesterday, that my Lil Guy is scheduled for production. Now the good part. They say that completion date for my JCW will be on October 5th. That's so much better than I was starting to believe. So here it is: VIN here, Completion date, now what more could I ask for? Right, the completion and on the ship, no make that on the Dock being picked up. That would REALLY be much better.

Looks like I'll make my November 6th weekend to pick it up. That'll work out, just about perfect, if it is the next weekend, so be it, but I'm going for the 6th.

That's the shipping line most come over on. http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep// Go to the bottom right, click All Users, then enter your VIN as the Cargo ID. This won't show up till later when you've finished production, but you can use it to find out what boat you're on. There's a link somewhere on the "How to Track Your MINI" page to look at upcoming shipping schedules. You can use this to guess which boat you'll be on. They also use KLine, with that line you can't track as much

Congrads on your build! Oct 5th isn't too far away! Less than a month wait from here on out probably!

I believe it's last 7 of your VIN in Cargo ID and it only comes up when you're getting on the boat, though...

I ordered last friday, got an order number on saturday, but it is apparently not scheduled yet. I called today and was told "not scheduled yet". How long does it usually take to get production date.

Took me 8-9 days. Finished Sept 14th, subtract 8 days for production, ordered the 28th..
When I called ASK-MINI and talked to someone, I was slated for daily production so I was due to start within a week

Why would you upgrade? The whole "DSP" thing in audio is just a new selling gimmick, IMO. I studied DSP extensively and we'd have conversations about this in class, it's silly the way everything is marketed as PLL (phase lock loop) and DSP.

On another note, just FYI to those who ordered:
MINI OL (online) still says Clubby is en-route, even though he's been at the VDC since yesterday
866-ASK-MINI still says Clubby is at the dock waiting for a shipping vessel...

Obviously neither is up to date, and somehow, the OL is ahead of ASK-MINI. Go figure Still crossing fingers for Saturday delivery..

Ahhh gotcha gotcha. I thought you meant you were going to fit it in. I'm sure whatever the newest part out is what's in the 2011s. It may be difficult to tell though without pulling the radio apart. Maybe ask the parts department?
