R56 2011 Ordering
I was talking with an associate who brought his BMW wagon back from Europe through BMW's program where you fly out and drive it away from the factory yourself, right.. so, we were talking about how great an experience that was for him, and this is undoubtedly true, and something I think many of us MINI owners would do if we could (I mean, hello, vacation PLUS car). Anyway, I pointed out that technology today was pretty impressive with regards to our owner experience, tracking our car through production and the voyage over. He didn't really get it at first, so I showed him the live ship map of the Volans Leader, underway from Southampton. His eyes sort of twitched.
"That's actually pretty amazing."
Torture for some, admittedly (I'm looking at you Wahoo!) but pretty neat by=product of the interwebs crossing arcs with globalization...

Ok guys, sorry
I know I've been neglectful on pictures. So, it's a sunny day out and I'm going to go out and give it a nice bath (got some swirlies on the side mirrors and I was goofing with the back wipers...you can get people quite wet when they're hanging out back there!) and I'll get some pictures. Any requests on specific pictures?
Also...how the heck can I get pictures in my posts? I tried yesterday and thought it worked, obviously not

Here is some information you can use when your ship gets to the Panama Canal. Seeing your ship live on webcam gives you goosebumps.

Congrats, Wahoo! Nice photos! I'd love to see the tail light at night if possible--it looked like an incandescent in the middle of LED's, right? No worries if not--your photo of the non-anthracite headliner comforted me! I was worried I made a mistake not ordering that, but it looks like it lightens things up and contrasts nicely. Enjoy your commute this week!
My car's enjoying the Mexican coast right now--I may end up being exactly a week behind you!

Dodgy: I intend on getting them, but it's pouring right now and has been since late afternoon. When it clears up I'll get a shot of the tail lights. I actually haven't seen them myself
Apparently they look awesome though!
The stock headliner is your basic beigy-grey color. It really makes things look nice with the black interior. Also the side pillars are of plastic in the same color and everything blends nicely. Makes the ambient colors really glow too. I think it'd be a bit too much black to get the black headline too, so I'm glad I made the choice to go standard. I think you'll really, really like the piano black too, it will look great with the other shiny black parts.
Also, you're going to LOVE the HK. It really is a great system
Keep us updated! And I won't hold it to you if you take a day or two to get pics up
Let me know if you want info on anything else

I have noticed that the early builds of the 2011s had Carbon Black as standard for the color Line. But now the MINI USA builder and brochure confirm that Carbon Black is a 250 option now. Dark Grey is standard now.
wahoo_shoe: Well, how was the long drive to work today? And, how do your fellow employees like your new ride? Now, you have to give rides to them all for putting up with you this past six weeks, right? Ok, go to work.
Going to have to wait until 8:00 CDT to call the MiniUSA service center to find out what happened to the Lil Guy this weekend. He was complaining about all that black sticky stuff that they sprayed on him, then just when he was feeling better, they covered his roof with a bright red sticky stuff, just like the black stuff, just a different color. He said that he hoped that the sticky stuff was done.

Sooooooon n the lil guy will be with u
.. believe me the days will pass
chak: when I ordered, I sort of remember carbon black being standard..I definitely got the satellite gray though, but I thought that was an option color? Weird. The black checkered is the standard dash trim though, and honestly, I think it looks good. Very subtle but adds to the go-faster vibe.
hemi: drive to work was a blast. It's hilarious watching people look at your car and do a double take. My rear wipers went once and the person behind me was pointing at it, it was quite funny to watch. It was pouring though, so I was a wee bit careful, but dang, this car REALLY holds to the road. Backed in a space far from anyone else too, had to look back twice and giggle before beginning the mundane work day. Co-worker rides won't begin until later this week when a) it's sunny out and b) when I can afford to eat out again
You guys are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE your new rides. Even for those just upgrading, the interior alone will make a difference. Although watch out, the seat heaters get real toasty real quick! Hang in there, the wait is so worth it!

I made a mistake on Lil Guy. He went into the body shop on Friday, 1st, not the Paint Shop. He went into the Paint Shop today and is scheduled to be completed tomorrow the 5th. Let's see: Started production on September 28th and will finish on October 5th. That's the 8 days that they talk about. Still seems like a long time for production in a facility that is suppose to be the most modern and efficient in Europe. Anyway, Lil Guy is getting closer.
