I just received the Kleen Wheels (brake dust shields) from Moss and had Kaiser (Kelly) Tires in Louisville install them for me. They didn't charge one penny!?! Wow...a first. Thanked them profusely and promised I would give them tire business in future. BTW, the TVA hot pocket was really handy...as it will continue to be...on our trip to Gulf Shores. Also, the MINI luggage I bought was perfect, 'cause you don't have to figure out where/how to stow luggage. The 3 pieces fit in the boot only one way. The MINI was a hit all the way to Gulf Shores and back. We walked out of a Cracker Barrel in Alabama to see clearly a dozen folks standing around her, including several bikers...all wanting answers to standard questions, e.g., "What is it?" All favorable comments and folks from all ages/gender have been attracted to her. The best part is...that she rides SWEEEEETTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!
Just thought I'd share some observations for those still waiting for their baby!!! (well worth the wait)  Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Peace!

>>How well do those dust covers work? Does it really cut the dust by a lot? I have ordered them and am waiting on them to come in. (I have white wheels)
...and, perhaps more importantly, have you experienced any fading when you use the brakes heavily in the twisties?

I had these dust shields for while until I read the specific warning from MINI NOT to install dust shields. If your brakes fail, you will NOT have the benefit of a warranty because MINI will claim that heat buildup from the lack of ventiliation caused the failure.
Buy EBC Greenstuff brake pads to reduce dust.
...and oh, by the way, as for keeping the dust off of the wheels, the Kleen Wheels work VERY well (but at what cost?)

Heat buildup will make the brake pads mushy and you will not get the same stopping power when they overheat.

hmm guess Ill just have to try it and give it whirl and see what happens. cause the brake dust is KILLING my rims. Its a risk of warranty just like installing an intake or exhaust.

I would like to get the shields as well, but I am going to get the green brake pads instead. It is more than a simple warranty issue. If you overheat the brakes the last corner you go into may be the first corner you don't exit from, at least not while still on the pavement.
It is only $40. Try them and go for a drive with a lot of corners and use your brakes. Let us know what happens. It may be only on the track where you would see such serious heat buildup because you're on the brakes constantly. Maybe they work fine on the street.

They're sweet and you'll never regret them. Have had them on several 'rides' and they are WELL worth their salt. Can't see the brake calipers, etc....only the black Kleen Wheels...but...they are not offensive and look stock AND WORK!!!!!!!!!! ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what 'fading' is...NO noise or func tional difference. They are made of aircraft grade aluminum (very lightweight) and fit onto the wheel....They have been perfected over the years in order to avoid noise, temperature AFFECT on pads and rotors, and only serve...at this point in time....to virtually eliminate brake dust (sound like a salesman for the damned things, don't I???). Hey...I tired quickly of the dirty looking wheels...and these things are my FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great point. I phoned (before purchasing) my MINI dealer (Cincinnati MINI) and asked the same thing. Service manager stated that they install these Kleen Wheels on a regular basis and have never had a problem with warranty issues, brake failure, etc. Some years ago, brake dust shields (in general) had issues allowing for heat build-up, etc. Current shields, e.g., Kleen Wheels, have a product that has had no adverse affects on the brake components. I was convinced (felt confident) that Kleen Wheels would hit the mark. My older brother swears by them and has been using them for the past 7+ years without an issue on various rides he has owned (Lexus, BMW). I guess, if you can afford them, GET THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your information is correct up until the past few years. Kleen Wheels' CURRENT dust shields promise (according to them and MY MINI dealership) to not offend the workability/warranty of the factory pads/rotors. BUT, as one of my parents in the past impressed on me, if you are EVER in doubt about something...don't do it.

I don't like brake dust, but I like disc brakes, and they need lots of airflow to work properly. I also don't like the way the dust shields make my nice disc brakes look like the drum brakes on my `72 Nova.

Thanks, Scoobs. I will rethink the Kleen Wheels. I had only heard they created a problem some years ago. Perhaps they have improved their product.

Well I got mine in the mail today and installed them. They look and work great! I used to not want them either, until I noticed the brake dust was SCRATCHING my wheels. Even with frequent cleaning and waxing. With white wheels, its a must.
