I had the same problem. It sounds silly, but you'll really just adjust yourself to it, and after a few weeks, you'll find that it stays closed!
Other than that, there may be a way to pad the locking 'nub' so that it will hold better. I'll take a look and see if I can come up with a simple solution.

I had this same problem from the first day I picked it up. Then I realized that if it is partially opened and you lean on it, it slides back making you think you broke it. Now I make sure it's closed all the way forward and I haven't had a problem with it opening on its own. I really like the armrest for driving on the long trips.
I did notice that if I keep too much stuff in the arm rest, extra keys, cell, etc., things tend to rattle enough to make you wonder "What's that noise?" panick question.

i've noticed it too, also from the day i picked it up. and if you first nudge it open with your elbow, then lean on the back (unsupported when open) edge, it will pop the front up and off track, then it is "broken" until you put it back into the track. bet from there you really could break it.
the top is too loose and set too far back, my elbow is always hitting it. i was thinking of drilling a hole in the bottom rear and using a pin to secure it, but haven't had the time to figure out a more elegant solution than a cotter pin to hold it in place. i like the idea of adding friction resistance, i will play with some adhesive felt like the loop side of velcro, maybe that will help.
you are definately not alone...
