Any thoughts on how to fix the armrest?
1 Attachment(s)
I have the MINI armrest that can be used for a cell phone. Because of this, the top slides back if you lean on it just a little bit. I'm always having to nudge it back forward. Anybody else have the same problem and how did you fix it?

I have the same armrest with the same slight problem. Haven't found a way to fix it, really hasn't bothered me that much. Tomorrow I will go out and see if I can devise something.

This happened to me too and it did bother me. Now that I have had the car for a few months it doesn't happen. I often look down and I see that it is still closed. I hope that you fund a good solution that will work.

I had the same problem. It sounds silly, but you'll really just adjust yourself to it, and after a few weeks, you'll find that it stays closed!
Other than that, there may be a way to pad the locking 'nub' so that it will hold better. I'll take a look and see if I can come up with a simple solution. -Paul! |
I've thought about placing a small strip of the soft side of a velcro strip on the very back edge of the top so that it would cause a bit more friction, it looks like there might be room for something like that. Any other thoughts?

The only fix I've found is to train my elbow to occasionally drop behind the armrest and nudge it forward. I now do it unconsciously and the problem has gone away.

I have not had that problem, i actually can not get the darn thing open most of the time :sly:.

I had this same problem from the first day I picked it up. Then I realized that if it is partially opened and you lean on it, it slides back making you think you broke it. Now I make sure it's closed all the way forward and I haven't had a problem with it opening on its own. I really like the armrest for driving on the long trips.
I did notice that if I keep too much stuff in the arm rest, extra keys, cell, etc., things tend to rattle enough to make you wonder "What's that noise?" panick question. |
i've noticed it too, also from the day i picked it up. and if you first nudge it open with your elbow, then lean on the back (unsupported when open) edge, it will pop the front up and off track, then it is "broken" until you put it back into the track. bet from there you really could break it.
the top is too loose and set too far back, my elbow is always hitting it. i was thinking of drilling a hole in the bottom rear and using a pin to secure it, but haven't had the time to figure out a more elegant solution than a cotter pin to hold it in place. i like the idea of adding friction resistance, i will play with some adhesive felt like the loop side of velcro, maybe that will help. you are definately not alone... |
