DEPO/Helix Projector Headlights Installed

Thought I would share my thoughts and install on these headlights... ECS carries them and I also found a local vendor (through eBay oddly) that sells them. They come in the chrome/silver scheme (similar to stock look) and the "blackout" scheme - these are the ones I went with and bought.

I first had questions and trouble on how to get HIDs put into these, as well as where to mount the ballast for the HID connection.

Keep in mind these are replacements for Halogen lights (H7 bulbs) so ideally HID kits dropped into Halogens is not recommended - I did it anyways to see the difference, and because they're projectors after all. Ill be testing out just regular bulbs (Ziza carried by ECS)

Overall Im extremely happy with the outcome. Definite upgrade from the stock Halogens, they look much cleaner and I can actually see further ahead on the road.

Pictures below show the difference between stock vs new, installed on car, and how far they project. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics of what the stock ones looked like as far as light output on the road... But those with Halogens already know more or less your length of light on the road... I still need to sit and figure out aiming and all that... Nobody has flashed me on the road yet But also a couple people I followed said they weren't bright... they might be too low actually (these are installed straight out of the box)

I do think they they look better too... gives the car a much cleaner, updated look while not looking too ricey IMO

Looks good. Wish they had a version that worked with the headlight washers. The lenses on my lights have been restored but still are not as clear and smooth as I would like them.

We can only wish

But at $275 a set, you'll have to maybe replace them once every how often realistically? I guess for me I don't use the headlight washers that often anyways but I see what you mean

Just not sure how to bypass the washers without getting any codes or issues.

Ya that would be a problem I would assume... I had Halogens for my stockers as well so couldn't tell ya, sorry

You can just remove the washers as we've done this many times due the high cost of a failed xenon. We keep the lights in stock.

Looks great bro! Glad I could (didnt) help! If you need recommendations on really good bulb and ballast setups, let me know.

I aimed mine by eye.


Obviously, you can't see the beam pattern but they are aimed pretty good and I have never gotten high beams flashed!!

Does anyone have a cost effective xexon replacement housing? I just picked up a 06 and tried the lens restoration kit from meguiars. It helped but isnt as clear as I would like. Most aftermarket ones I find are for the H7 bulbs as listed above. Or is the consensus to swap in the H7 housings with an aftermarket HID.

Your best best is probably one of 3...
- joeyMod them and clean the lens when you bake them to get opened
- buy new set of xenons ($$$$$$)
- or buy these, and drop in some HID or H7 bulbs... they work just as good IMO as Xenons

The thing I don't know is that if the wiring to your headlights is correct or ok to hook up halogen lights to them... don't know if you can just swap them

ahhh i was hoping this wasn't the case lol hopefully the price will stay the same... I tried ordering the JCW shift **** when it was on sale, then you guys said it was discontinued.

Couple weeks later you guys have them back up but at full price

Looks awesome Alkaidovich! One quick question, i am thinking about getting these headlights since I accidently broke one of my headlight washers. You added the HID conversion kit to those projectors? how did they look before with just the H7 Bulbs? i love that crisp white look as well. Thanks!

Will removing the headlight washers send a code for us factory xenon guys that want to purchase the Depo's?

Hey, did these ever get answered? I'm in the same boat. Factory xenons w/washers and auto-leveling (05/2003 build r53). Recent accident means I need to replace the passenger side pre-facelift light or upgrade...

Considering the helix projector set (https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2006-...hts/ES2724053/), and converting to xenon as done in this thread. Any issues with this (codes, fit, melting/fire)?

If not, what kit are folks using for the conversion? If the ballast/innards are still ok on my lights can they be salvaged?

Yes, I did by trial and error. Removing the headlight washer fuse will NOT throw a code/error. You're good to go bro!

Curious why no one has said what kit is being used for the conversion to xenon. ECS do you offer one?

Sorry guys just got around to seeing the emails of the posts lol

As for the lights... I had halogens before, the ones I bought and installed are still considered "Halogen" but they have a projector glass in them instead.

I bought H7 HID kits from my local vendor and just put the bulbs in, attaching the ballast below the light housing (where ballast would be if they were xenon)

I do not honestly know if or how these would work if you currently have xenon and want to swap to these... Like I said, these are still HALOGEN lights with a projector glass in them. Hopefully that cleared things up, if not Im more than happy to answer any other questions. Ill be checking this a little more often

So I guess to clarify things, i did not convert anything really.

I went from Halogen ---> Halogen

No xenon converting or anything.
