So how long did Rygold lurk to hit the 42k page view?

Change of seasons means it's time to get the 69 Cad convert inspected. Just a "safety" inspection for $10 by an old friend. I think the tires are over 17 years old, but like Alfred E. Neuman "What Me Worry"?
My Air bag light on the MINI (not Caddy!) is now ON. Back to the dealer for a scheduled glove box repair (again). Let's see what they do to the little fella.

If I only knew more about kitchen knives
Of the ones commonly available around here, I like Wustof knives better than Henckels for the difference in balance.
But then I know nothing! Nothing at all.
But I did just get a job offer - 30% more than I'm making now! Woohoo! And I'm meeting to get my aux cable this week.

I thinlk my last post fell off during the MCO downtime. Plenty of room in/on the Caddy for all current members!
Fixed my glove box with a new latch. I am all set to put stuff back in there again.
Hope all is well. Hey, who is 2coolforschool" on the board? His name says it all.

I'm still with you Red. Just passed 7,000 miles. Getting ready to spend some more money on mods. I am thinking about a clear bra before winter. I know the east coast people are thinking a bit more about inclement weather, but right now it's 92 outside and absolutely beatuiful. I took off early yesterday for a drive out to the coast with my Wife in her mustang. Its only worthwhile feature is it's a convertable. Not nearly as fun as my mini. I guess I'll just have to do it again in the proper car for turns and twists.

update on MM2, he's still in pieces, awaiting assembly at Status 112. He'll be put together before October 3rd, which is good (and not too far away, YAY!)

>>Anybody home? How about a poll to see how many originals still read this thread.

Greetings once again, fellow CWFAC'ers. I feel like I should go to confession and ask for everyone's forgiveness for my prolonged abscence from these hallowed pages. I spent the last three nights reading from page 118 to 129 to catch up. Good to see that Jeremypo finally received his MINI, and quite upsetting that Ryan lost his at almost the same time.
I am still in love with my MINI, with just over 13,500 miles on her. I must say the most fun I have had in her so far was driving from Ferndale to Petrolia and back on a section of road that looks like it belongs in a bicycle race (actually, it is - tour of the unknown coast) complete with switchbacks, hairpins, mountain climbs and descents, even a view of the ocean. 30 miles in 35 minutes - but only in a MINI. Its amazing, but the car seems to handle better the harder you push it.
No real problems to date, besides 2 windshield cracks. First one started at around 8k miles, next at 12k. Windshield scheduled for replacement next week, and will cost a total of just under $450 ($250 out of pocket). Dealer quote was over $700, not to mention being a 500-mile round trip away.
Still trying to figure out how to get a pulley install done way up here in the middle of nowhere. I will try to check in a little more often - I really appreciate all the help everyone here has been, especially the incomparable Ryan.

Phil
yes, Phil, great to hear from you! Wow, lots of miles, glad to hear they're all trouble-free (minus the windshield, natch)
I just helped a friend install a set of H-Sport springs on his '02 MCS, DS/W. The install went smooth, after I found all my tools
I love the way the car sits, handles, and rides with those springs, so I'm gladly getting them again! Anyway, my buddy was impressed, which is cool. He has over 45,000 miles on his, and not one major problem yet
Cheers,
Ryan

Just back from Orient Point (north fork of LI) and the MINI is great! Backroads and highway. But sometimes sitting in traffic the clutch feels a little notchy. Not the engagement point though.
Only at 3500 miles, so I guess I am still the mileage chump.
The Caddy gets out tommorow when the CLC (Cadillac La Salle Club) has a show at Conte Cadillac to help intro the new XLR. Wonder if he has it yet? If not, the weather will be great, and there will be plenty of old boats to admire.
Whenever I drive the 69 Convert I say the following Mantra over and over for 15 minutes: "Not the MINI, Not the MINI....." Before I adopted this strategy, I almost fried my brakes trying to slow too quick for a too fast turn!

Red

I'm still here!!!
I did have a flurry of posts the night of 9/10 and then the great server crash took 'em all. Ironically one of them was lamenting how few of the old regulars have been around...I miss hearing from some, like Katie, Par4 (my Jingu buddy) and others...glad we're still kickin' a little bit, and long past the time most CWF*Cs fade away...we're still #1 in my book.
Can't compare to Phil, but Burnie has hit the big 6K without a major problem (except my cruise control doesn't work--saving that one for 10K under warranty). I treated him to an oil change, tire rotation, coolant flush (I had the yucky browns!) and general checkup with the cool BMW/MINI-man near my house. He has been working on Bimmers for 25+ years and he and his wife have a VERY modded EB MCS that they love. Its nice that I don't have to go to San Antonio for "unscheduled" maintenance. Burnie got a clean bill of health so its on to a great autumn of motoring...
Sept. 28 is TX All-British Car Day (new MINIs get their own class this year!)
Nov. 8 is the Austin Micro-car show
Nov. 9 is the Post-Boo MINI Rally and scavenger hunt in San Marcos, and
Nov. 29 is the Car Club parade in downtown Austin.
In addition, one of the MAs at San Antonio MINI Center is celebrating his new IB/W MCS and his birthday with a real and RC MINI rally on a date TBD...fun stuff indeed!
-->Rachel, what's up with the job? Did you get your iPod going? Do you love it?
-->Ryan, did you crash the server just to get rid of the evil NEON pics???:P
I promise not to do that again
Best to all!
cheffie

I'm still here, too.. mostly.
Thanks for asking, chefie. The job is still in that funny period of adjustment when I'm trying to figure out just where I belong and what I'm supposed to be doing. Sometime this week I'm supposed to, um, dig up some dirt. Literally.
No computer at my desk, though (shouldn't that be illegal?!), so I haven't been online terribly much.
The ipod mount is in the mail to me. I'm getting my own iPod for the car since I'll need one to keep myself entertained at work anyway - had been using SO's.

Hello all,
Sorry I've been lagging around here lately, I've been trying to be more productive - you know how it goes, 4 month's since graduation, still no job...blah, blah, blah....
Congrats to Rachel, by the way! There's hope for us all.
Question for Ryan --> I finally got my hands on a Ca. duster and I heard you say(actually I read you say, but that sounds too wierd) that they work better when they're dirty. How exactly do you go about dirtying it up? Should I like kick it around in the street before I use it?
And some fun news, I recently attended a BMWCCA rally in new hampshire. It was one of those scavenger hunt types, where we were given a bunch of clues to look for and keep track of on the drive. I didn't get to take the mini, but it was pretty cool in my step dad's M3. And my team took 1st place in our division, with the highest score of any team that participated
Chef, what kind of knives do you prefer anyway??? Just wondering because my boyfriend is a kitchen/house wares designer.
Poly's got over 5,000 miles on her now, and it kinda makes me nervous that she hasn't needed an oil change. But I am totally problem free so far(knock on wood). Has anyone else noticed that the DSC light looks like a butt? By boyfriend cracks up everytime he sees it flash by as the car's turned on.

Katie, just rub the duster on the car, it will get dirty quick enough! But make sure you put it in it's case before you leave it anywhere when it is new. There is lots of parafin/oil? that leaves marks on paper/fabric.
Works great! Also love my water blade.

Red

I actually had a fairly lengthy knife post on 9/10--eaten by the big crash.
I am a big fan of Wusthof and Forschner knives--nice balance, fairly light and a good value for the $$
I also lust after Globals from Japan slicey/dicey nirvana. Great steel, awesome edge, etc. I have two and would buy more but its hard to justify when I already have about 40-50 knives stashed around between home and work, and they're all so well-loved that none *need* to be replaced....
We are having a rally/scavenger hunt in November...can't wait!
-->Sorry about the sunfire Ryan, it came up on a Google search for Dodge Neon and like a fool I beleived what the internet told me...my bad!
I love my duster too, I'm still amazed at the build up on the back of the MINI. The other day it was dry and dusty then it sprinkled while I was motoring about. 3/4 of the car arrived home bright and shiny with a few water spots but the rear was a filthy mess!!! It literally looked like part of a different car. Thank goodness for quick-detail spray and my handy duster
