R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
MY MINI's BEEN ATTACKED!
I went out to run some errands Sunday night and while walking around the back of the car to the driver's side, I noticed that my rear windshield had been smashed to bits! What the f*&$*?! It was parked in the driveway with the rear facing the sidewalk. It had to be either some brain-dead hooligans or it was a rock that flew off the street Personally, I think it was the former, as in "wow, here's a cool new car, let's deface it." As soon as the kitchen remodel is over and the back driveway is cleared, I'll be parking behind a gate! The good news is that insurance covers it all with no deductable. Don't know how long she'll be in the MINI hospital. Since I bought the car out of state, and not from the dealership which is doing the repairs, there's no replacement car.

>>PROBLEMS
>>Just two. First gear stumble (Any suggestions? Will new ECU software eventually correct this?)
>>Flapping windshield trim. One day while cruising at about 85 the top windshield trim came loose and was smacking the sunroof. Scared the %$#@ out of me...Simply fixed with a little silicone adhesive but not funny at the time. I've heard this is especially an issue with March build cars, you might want to check yours...

Today I noticed a wind noise while at speed while on the freeway coming from the center part of the windshield area. I was able to change the pitch of the noise by changing the air conditioning/heater control settings. I thought the noise was emanating from the ventilation system. When I pulled off the freeway, I got stuck behind two large dual trailer dump trucks. When I finally got a chance to past, the lead truck threw up a bunch of gravel that peppered the MCS. When I had an opportunity to stop and inspect for damage, I found no rock damage (I will most likely find some next time I wash and wax) but I did find the source of my new mystery noise. The top windshield molding was almost totally out of its channel between the glass and roof. One more high speed blast and it would have been out of here! I had checked it about 300 miles ago, so it doesn’t take long once it decides to work itself loose.
Hello Everyone! I'm still alive, however just barely!
First off, I'm still in Denver...I fly back to Detroit tomorrow afternoon.
Second; I went with RandyBMC of MINI-Motorsport and our personal God, mferguson (MCO founder, duh!) to an SCCA Solo2 race in Colorado Springs on Sunday. Both the guys did a great job, especially considering the track was designed by a guy with a Z06 Corvette! Here are a couple pics:

Cheers,
Ryan

Oh, and Chef, don't wax your glass! Doing so on glass will just make the water smear instead of bead (wierd I know!) You only need 2 thing for your glass: Stoner Invisible Glass, and RainX

Well Aprilites, I got my Madness cold-air Intake installed today!
It was a very simple 10 minute install. The product came packaged very well, with good instructions, and all the parts needed for smooth installation.
The result? A noticable increase in midrange oompff, and a touch more power in the bottom and top ends too. The sound is nice too; an increase in supercharger whine is obvious, but not obnoxious, I kinda like it

Ryan

hey guys.. just wanted to stop in and say what's up to whoever still checks out this corner of MCO. i for one, haven't been around much.. summer means beach, road trips, golfing, and work withlittle time for wasting time on the internet. have about 6500 miles so far with the only problem being the extra-thin-and-prone-to-cracks windshield with the crack that grows everytime i wash it ,getting the glass suddenly cold. the whole crack looks like some crazy graph or a road map! i'm trynig to hold out getting it replaced until my 10k check up. which is actually coming up quickly.. the end of june, i'll be making a 1k mile round trip from va beach to star lake amphitheatre to see DMB... 2nd row, saweeeeeeet!
anyway, hope everyone is well and enjoying their MINIs!!

I'm not sure there's even any beach left out there with all this rain we've been having!
Getting the rest of the stripes installed today (hooray)... if it doesn't rain (boo) :/
SO excited! Leaving Tuesday for my race track adventures (Connecticut), drive and drive and drive Wednesday and Thursday, then back Friday. Then I'm driving up Mt. Washington (in New Hampshire) with 65+ MINIs on Saturday. Can't wait!

After the required 5-10 minutes the man is returning with his clipboard, oh well I think, it was bound to happen eventually...
What kind of car IS this, sir...he asks--why its a MINI Cooper (obvious pride) How fast are these little cars--Weeeeell, I've "heard" they can do 135, but of course I don't drive that fast--You're kidding, what kind of engine do they have--1.6L supercharged four (more obvious pride)--and they can go that fast--yes sir, and they corner great--more checking out of the MINI ensues...
Long story short...he gave me a warning
)...I guess its defensive driving on DVD for me, I guess I'll have to keep the lead foot closer to the playstation for a while (yeah right
chef
-->Rachel, I want to see those stripes as soon as possible, hope yours don't bring the law down on you too!!!

Chef,
Too bad about the ticket. I know I shouldn't laugh about the misfortunes of others, but you are too funny man.
Now come on, be honest. Where you so bright and cheery when he drove away?

Second one. It's always great to get away with one. If you send the recipe, I'll bake a cake with a file in it

Chef, sounds like you win some and you lose some! Great story!

Going to figure it out. See ya!

chefie - you crack me up!
Glad to hear that you (mostly) got out of your speeding tickets.
I'll try to get pics of the stripes when I see the sun again. If I ever see it again. At least my boyfriend's name is noah just in case we get some, err... flooding.
Got word that the camera mount for the DV cam has shipped (thanks, minipilo!), so hopefully it'll be here by the time we leave.
AND... I might have another job... I'm still in negotiations on it and trying to decide if I really want to look for something elsewhere (this one is, ah.. REALLY close to the old one) and maybe earn more money. Fingers crossed!

Well Red, I'm no Ryephile...who is?...but try this:
Open your picture from the gallery and right click to get "properties" (or on a Mac, open the picture in a new window).
Then highlight and copy the URL.
To place the picture in a post, click the image button and then paste your URL into the box that pops up.
Close the box and then finish and submit your post as usual.
