R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
Marc,
I love that picture! You should send it to MINI to use in an ad. It reminds me of the Apple ad with Yao Ming and the actor who played Mini Me in Austin Powers...very, very cool.
Enjoy your motoring, wish I was in the Big Easy right about now!!

>>I just got my pass the the SF Italian Job screening. We are going to met at 5:45, line up and drive around the block by the theater where people and news/tv cameras are supposed to be waiting to see the screening. Then we have a parking garage reserved next to the theatre, (we have to pay the $1.50 per hour parking) and passes for two to see the film.
>>
I signed up for the same thing. I liked the idea at first, but they actually want us to drive around the block over and over for about an hour. As great as free tickets to the movie are, this could get old in a hurry. I see enough stop and go traffic in my commute.
I guess since they give you your hand stamp at the beginning, you can quit whenever you get bored. But still, does anyone else think this is a bit far to go for a nine-dollar ticket?

Hey! I'm back too!
Sorry it's been soooooooooooooooooooo loooooooooooooong since my last post. NO excuses, just haven't been spending time in front of the screen. Instead, I have been spending more time looking through my windshield of my MINI. I have almost 3,000 miles on BONZO and the car has been such a trip. I never thought I could love something as much as I love BONZO. He rocks!
Bad news though, I got backed into on Thursday. Right into my driver side door. I am so upset, with the damage being $1200. Insurance is taking care of everything, but what an inconvenience. To add insult to injury, the Italian Job Preview is this Thursday and I can't get my car fixed by then. So, BONZO will not be shown at his best. However, we will suck it up and go have a blast anyway. Over 100 MINI's are suppose to be there............should be a wild site! I will make sure to get pics and post them.
I too have received my MINI package which was filled with lots of great MINI stuff. I specifically like the MINI Journal and BINGO game. My wife and I are headed to Quebec in October and that should make the trip even more enjoyable.
Well, that's all for now. I will continue to post and get back in the game. I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying your MINI's.

Quinn,
I asked myself the same thing about driving around the block, but it's not about the movie, it's about hanging out with a bunch of other minis.
Speaking of groups of minis. What do you call a group of minis.
A group of dolphins is a pod, a group of lions is a pride, a group of cattle is a herd, a group of geese is a gaggle etc. etc......
So, What is a group of minis to be called? Maybe a coop?
Just wondering
Andy

Hey Birdie, nice to have you back. Bonzo will wear his wounds with pride that night. He will look like one of the extras from the movie!
All you havve to do is affect a stunt man's swagger and dark glasses, even if it is nightime.

Andy, I think it is from the Latin "Meni ", or MeniMINIS.
I could be wrong.

Great to hear you're back Birdie, but too bad about your MINI's incident
Mr. Motor will be thrilled to show off himself, but I'm the one that has to prep his attire (aka wash and detail
If you're an electronica junkie, check this out: Movement2003
...and oh yea, my Madness rear sway bar is scheduled to arrive at my doorstep on Wednesday, I'm very excited to put that on!
It's all good over here,
Cheers,

Hey,
What's the deal with the soft thump I hear when just starting off? At first I thought it was the locks, but I hear a seperate noise for that. Or are they both related. It sounds like it comes from the rear/boot. Anyone know?

Ryan,
Do all CWFAC'ers have their MINI's? Just curious. It might be fun to put together an April survey and compile the results. It could be based on the real stuff that matters instead of the customer service stuff we get asked from MINIUSA.
Just a thought.

My wife heard it once starting off. I heard it after shutting down the car and sitting in it. Thought it was the EBD/ABS whatever cycling. Or just some amusing British stangeness. I have had 7 British cars.
How about after it rains and the car has sat long enough for the discs to get rusty; when you take off the EM and take off you get a loud clunk when the pads let go?

Besides our few tragic dropouts, I can't say for sure if everyone has thier MINI. Those who shall remain nameless never bothered to let us know when they took delivery of their MINI!
Any ideas on the kind of questions?

Hi all,
I put the pipercross intake on Pyro this weekend and did some pocket dyno runs. consistent 5 hp gains, and I love the growl under wot. After about 45 minutes of hard driving, I opened the hood and checket the intake tube and it was not hot at all. In fact cooler that the stock airbox.
I am planning to put on the Rogue exhaust this weekend.
Yesterday I shined up Pyro to get him ready for the Italian Job screening tonight in SF.

Have a great day.
Andy

I've heard it too. I thought that maybe it was coming from the speakers, because it sounds like one of those deep bass popping noises(but I'm super paranoid about blowing my speakers out, so I could be totaly wrong). I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the OBC and the speakers. Like(and I'm sure Ryan or someone knows the technical terms here but) when I used to live in the dorm, everytime my phone would ringe, the speakers at my computer would crackle and pop. I don't know, that's just my theory

Travelog entry: So after several days drive through Louisiana and Texas (with stops in Houston and Dallas--it's a big state), I hopped onto the I-40 and what's left of Route 66. Was able to do a lot of 2-lane road trips through Indian land and a great side trip to Tinkertown. Believe me, there's no shortage of wacky roadside Americana along Route 66 and this one makes the short list. Tinkertown's an assembly of mini (not MINI) stage sets inhabited by more than 1,000 hand carved wooden figures portraying a 3-ring circus, western town, even boot hill. It's all displayed in a maze of buildings made out of glass bottles. One display case holds over 100 plastic figures taken from the tops of wedding cakes. It took the creater over 50 years to put together (hence the name Tinkertown) and the best part is the sign that says "we did all this while you were watching TV"! Then it was on to Holbook, Arizona to spend the night in a wigwam. The Wigwam Village Motel in Holbrook, Arizona, the cement Teepee motor court on Route 66, is such an icon of American road culture that it's now in the register of historic places! As it should be. Built in 1950, it shut down in the '70s when the interstate came through, but the kids of the original owner brought it back to life in 1988. It's a hoot and for $35 you could do a lot worse!

had a blast chasing redlight-running minivan drivers this evening.... I think she heard the supercharger before she even saw us. mini mine doesn't LIKE going slow when people run red lights. Even when we're not breaking the law, we certainly sound grumbly and aggressive.
Which reminds me that Boston drivers have been declared some of the most aggressive in the nation.. well... we're still nicer than the New Yorkers, apparently.

Ryan,
So how was DEMF? Lucky bastard....that's one festival i haven't been to yet. Haven't read too many reviews yet, but i'm interested to know how Jeff Mills and the rest of the gang spun. Did you hear his Essential Mix on BBC radio? It's streaming till next saturday. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance to listen....pretty dope techno and Drum n' Bass(Dj marky from brazil is the first hour.
Well, i'm still on order status and my production date isn't till the 20th of June.....so a late July delivery looks to be in order. Damn this Deja Vu feeling!
Peace...

Jeremy, before you know it, you'll finally be Motoring in Phoenix!
The DEMF was the BOMB, although I didn't make it to the last day, and therefore didn't see Jeff Mills spin. I was too blown away by Stacey Pullen, Ectomorph, and Akufen to take on any more!
Cheers,
Ryan

asodestrom:
Saw your shiny MINI (with tiny MINI on the dash) in the parking lot at the SF Italian Job screening. Clearly there were a lot of MINI owners busy cleaning their cars this weekend. They all looked pretty spotless.
Personally, I thought the parking lot was the best part of the whole night. It was great to see all the different colors and configurations lined up. I felt like I was walking through the Dream Cars gallery on MCO. It was also great to see all the Classic Minis in the lot. It pains me to admit it, but as much as I love my MINI, the Classics are still cooler.
As for the movie, I have yet to see the original, so I don't know if the classic edition is better than the update. But I wouldn't be surprised.

about the mysterious "soft thump" . I don't know where I read this (thought it was top ten idiosyncrasies, but no) I believe it to be a self test of the ABS system. I have noticed however that it's a bit thumpier when the emergency brake has actually had some use ie parking on a slight incline. If it's going to happen ,20mph is where I here it.And in other news MINI called me at work yesterday to "follow up" on my experience, not with the dealer but the car. Talk about a "mini" interview , it was over in a flash. I have to confess I pretty much choked as far as saying anything ...oh whats the word oh yeah..SMART
Of course as soon as I hung up the phone I could think of plenty to say like Send me some swag da&&&it
my search for a 36mm socket continues.....see you on top of mt washington..whats that? your'e not going to be there
I loved seeing the pics from tail of the dragon thanks Ryan p.s. good to see katy and her appealing sig back.....Dave

HAHA! Rachel it's funny you brought this up, I was just reading an article on how the mini has taken manhattan, and it's turning it's drivers into friendly people. Check out this great quote:
Does that sound like a mini driver or what!

These New Yorkers are excessively eager to talk about their cars, using Mini-propagandistic words like "motoring" instead of driving. (Of the nine Mini drivers contacted for interviews — four with notes left on windshields — all called back within hours, some repeatedly.)

Quinn,
I agree the garage was pretty cool. I think they said there were over 150 minis attending. The traffic jam wasn't my favorite part of the night, but if you are going to be stuck in traffic it might as well be with minis. Minis need to get our and run, but it was great to see all of the different colors and congifs all looking good on the street.
The movie was fun, but it won't win an oscars. It was cool to have a theatre with 700 people probably half of them mini owners. Collective groans whenever a mini part flew off, or a car was dinged or crunched in one way or another.
I don't know about you, but it was hard to drive home without wanting to go up on a sidewalk or two.
Overall, a fun night. I took my 15 year old daughter and she loved it. Especially the classic minis.

oooh, nice pictures Andy!
I'll have to snap some off of my TIJ MINI-meet tomorrow. Despite the slight tackiness of MINI's advertising, I think this film is a great excuse to have a car-show!
