R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
It was 102 yesterday and I came home with dust all over my car. Don't use your California duster when it is that hot. It Just makes a waxy mess.
I am signing up for my first driving school and track day. I am going with two friends, one with a 911 and the other with a vette. Should be lots of fun.

Make sure to pump up the tires, use a pot holder to open the door and try to keep the grin off of your face! 102 degrees. My goodness!
And only #10 on CWF clubs Ryan? I always think of us as #1.

>> the DSC light looks like a butt? By boyfriend cracks up everytime he sees it flash by as the car's turned on.
A psychiatrist might have a field day analyzing that one. "looks like a butt" combined with "crack", "flash by" and "turned on". One sees what one wants to see, I suppose.
Just kidding, of course. By the way, I know that many of us have elected to do an "unscheduled" first oil change in an effort to prolong the life of the engine. I did mine at 4000 miles, though I would preferred to do it a little earlier. And I purposely did not have the computer reset to reflect the change, because I wanted it to be an extra change. When the computer did finally indicate that my first service was due (at 12,700 miles), I had it done at our local BMW dealer (had to supply my own filter, and pay of course, and they forgot to reset the computer).
BTW, has anyone else had a MINI dealer refuse to perform the initial service on their car because the computer didn't indicate it was due? I was in the Bay Area last summer, and had made an appointment at East Bay MINI to have four issues addressed, all of which I had set up over the phone 2 weeks in advance. The odometer had just over 11,000 miles, and they refused to do the service. They also didn't have the correct windshield in stock (rain-sensing), which was the other major repair I wanted to have done (come back next week they said - Its a 500mile trip I said - THATS WHY I SET IT UP 2 WEEKS AGO). They were able to re-aim the headlights, and change one of the pre-programmed computer functions (not locking the doors when the car is started) but charged $65 for that . Not a very satisfying first visit to MINI service, as far as I was concerned.
  I guess I've been complaining a lot. I still love my car. I still rarely see another MINI - maybe once a month. Everybody STILL stares at it. I don't even notice them any more - passengers do, however. In the last month, I have given 3 "test drives" - 2 out of 3 say they're buying one.
Good night all,
Phil

Good night all,

Sorry to hear about your dealer experience Phil. I have been back to my dealer (MINI of The Hamptons) twice, and they were extremely nice. They even offer to pick up your car and leave you a loaner (even for a glove box latch). I just did not want someoone I don't know to put 140 miles on my car.
The dealer also sells Mercedes and BMW and thinks I am crazy to want to change the oil sooner than reccomended. "You are living in the old days".
Best of luck Phil.
Hey Andy! Nice to hear the weather broke out there!
Got my TVA Hot Pocket and Glove Box organizer yesterday. Very nice and much needed. No more thumping of objects in the glove box anymore. Yes! G Forces!

Just got my 10,000 mile service - yes, 10,000 since mid April. The MINI Center in San Antonio did a nice service job - oil and stuff, cruise control (yes, yours will go out too, but it's easy to fix), the hatch rattle (they have a fix, yes, yours will rattle too), a few other small rattle, and that's it. And they were really interested in my mods (pulley, ECU, intake, springs, sway bar) rather than giving me any hassle about them.
Otherwise, no problems with this car in 10K! I must say that after 5 months or so, this is my favorite car ever - including Corvette, BMW, Mercedes, Saab, Lexus and many others. Maybe my MGB of many years ago rivals it for the fun factor, but that's too long ago to remember.
And, yes, got my first ticket in 10 years a few weeks ago. She just goes fast by herself - "it's not my fault , officer". Going to defensive driving school.
Who else from the April Club is in the 10K Club?

I am the lowest at 3700, but I must say you have to be loving the MINI after 10k miles. What year was your MGB? I owned lots of British cars from the 60's and they all had some amusing quirks, and me and my brother fixed them ourselves.
It's so strange to walk into a nice clean dealer under warranty for older folks like me!

hey guys!
me again, checking in.
Winnie's got 14k miles and still doing wonderfully. However, I do hear some lil creeks and cracks with the sunroof just popped open to that first position, but it's only noticeable with music off, which is rare. And my windshield is still cracked because the service department of checkered flag is worthless. I haven't modded my car any lately, so it's time to do that.
I'm getting a set of rear lights with the orange turn indicator swapped with a clear/white one as well as putting in the clear/white thrid brake light. I think it will look good with the PS/PS and my already white/clear side turn indicators. just hope installing isn't too much of a bear.
I visit MCO very infrequently, and feel like there's all these changes and stuff going on with MINIs, with the 04 models, and I'm not at all in the know with them. it's kinda nice, actually, cuz then i won't get upset that they might have some cooler features. BUt i guess i can get all my infro from Ryan when he gets his in.
well, that's that.. hope all is well, and GOOOOOOOOO REDSKINS! peace guys

Wags, where are you getting the rear light with clear trun indicator. I want one too! How much$$$.
Glad to hear from some more April clubbers.
I am getting ready to order a sway bar. I think I will get the madness bar because it's red.
I won't be able to get the "loose nut behind the wheel" upgrade until Nov 15th. I want to get the swaybar installed first.
For now, it's Baseball Playoffs. Go Giants!

Red,
1967 - my college car. I had a great relationship with the B - she lots of fun, but very needy - you know what I mean. Best thing about her is that she was low enough that I could drive under the parking lot gates and park in the professor lots.

well right now they have them at CTD (coopertuning place in germany) for 200 euro, which is like 240 usd, PLUS shipping (which i expect to be a lot)
BUT there's a dude on MCO saying that his place has them and to PM him if interested.. his website is up and coming or something. I have yet to hear from him, but he is FastLaneTuning, and I'm sure would be cheaper at least due to shipping.
i'm trying to get a hold of a pair from a MCO member who is selling them.
but anyway, here are some pics...
from CTD's website

and on Nomonsterinme's MINI

i really think it looks good as subtle as the change is...

Thanks for the pics and info Wags. I like the look. The orange lights with a Chili Red don't cut it for me. It's either a tinted light or this option.
Ryah, are you going to miss the Neon?
Andy

You know once you have seen the neon lights it's hard to go back to the farm. But I think Ryan will find his way back with no problem. Man. Time flies when it is not you waiting for a new MINI!

I think Wicked Wanda is our April Club mileage leader
oh, and Andy, stay tuned for your "let's make April Club sticky" request. New iterations of MCO-world will be able to highlight our record-breaking thread
MM2 update: He's booked on the Jingu Maru, and will land in NY on Oct. 16th, and I'm getting VERY EXCITED!

Cheers,
Ryan

Hi all,
great to see some old faces return and Ryan...congrats!!!the Jingu Maru rocks, she brought my Burnie home to me so long ago
Sorry for the absence, I just got back from a week in OK
helping my dad through my stepmom's illness
If that wasn't bad enough, I spent the week driving a rented Mitsubishi Lancer...all I can say is YEECCCCH! My darling wife picked me up in the MINI since she knew I would be missing my baby and it was wonderful.
Hope all are well,
cheffie

I haven't gotten across the 10k marker yet... 9800 miles and still trying to keep the miles off. My tutorees seem to appreciate it when I show up to tutor chemistry in my car
Hey chefie.. thanks for the hints about the global knives. I was attacked by my blind friend in the kitchen with one last weekend or so (he gestures a LOT when he's talking). They definitely hold an edge well
So what's a good blender to get that won't die on me halfway through making anything?

Yikes!!!!!

A little expensive but well worth it if you blend alot...we make smoothies all the time and the "occasional" stronger drink and love ours...think long term and buy quality I always say!
Should be a great weekend, my Italian Job DVD set is en route from Amazon ('69 and '03 versions) and I can finally wash Burnie...it's been 2-1/2 weeks and hes the dirtiest he's ever been...blush
