Should we be worried?
I've read lots of threads on different mini boards about peoples airbag lights going on. Never really though much of it until tonight on the news they had a report about airbags in cars randomly going off for no reason. Wasn't one specific car they talked about, and they talked about how car makers sometimes cut cost which can cause this.

No. There have been a few posts of deployment hitting large chuck holes at spirited speed most have been the side air bag usually one side. One post of all six, hitting a raised manhole (why do they call the holes chuck?) Don't worry be happy.
No reason to be any more worried about the MINI airbags than those of any other car.
Airbag warning lights are a good thing. If it ever lights up and you are concerned, just pull over and have MINI tow it to the dealership for service.

If I remember right from someone who had their light come on and had to have it repaired; when it does the airbags will not deploy. The circuit becomes inactive.
