R50/53 New owner picky questions
New owner picky questions
I have had the car for a few days at home, and have read my owner's manual, but have one or two little questions that you can probably answer.
1. I bought some driving light mounts, and the instructions say that in the MC/S you have to cut through the screen behind the grille to fit the brackets. The factory mount instructions even include templates to make the cuts in the right places. My car has nothing behind the grille - it will make it easier to install the brackets, but am I missing something I should have? Is the screen part of some exterior option like the aero kit?
2. What exactly does the "toolkit" represent in this car. The manual says that it should be in the compartment on the right hand side of the boot, but that is where the HK amp is located. There is a jack in a bag suspended between two brackets in the trunk. Is the "toolkit" just the jack in cars with run-flats. The manual talks about using allen wrenches when the sunroof stalls and other things. Are these not in the tool kit? Where is the tool to remove a tire? i.e. lug nut wrench, etc.?
3. The brackets in my trunk are purple - are these always the outside color of the car? I.E. are they white in a PW car? (Loops to hold netting I guess.)

1. The driving or rally lights usually mount behind the slat or aero grill of the bonnet. They mounts are from behind the grill on the inside of the bonnet as the lights are in front of the grill. If you have a stock MCS then the bonnet grill has slats.
2. The tool kit will vary from MC to MCS. For the MCS, the jack and lug wrench are in the long tool bag (marked part number 71.11-6 762 180-01) hooked to the left side of the boot floor. The black and red toolkit (marked part number 7111 1511643-03) has a small screwdriver (by Heyco), a fixed small wrench with 13mm and 10mm open ends, and a wire with ring on one end to pull your center cap off for some wheel models. It is inside the left wheel well access door. The HK amp is in the right access wheel well like you said.
3. Yes the loops in the rear boot are body colored. Mine are indi blue.

To answer #2.
They are located behind the panel on the left side of the boot, opposite sida as the HK Amp. You'll find a black pouch that holds smaller tools. The jack should be in the boot.
I'm also very interested to know why your MA did not show these locations to you upon taking delivery at the dealership...

woot!
My first post and I can answer a question.
The '05 MCS should have the tool kit on the left side of the boot in a pouch just like the '04's. It should be out in the open.

I believe the tool kits are added to the car as they arrive to the VPC or when the dealer preps the car before delivery.
Call the dealer if you believe they forgot to put your tool kit.
The MAs at my dealership went over this in detail. The whole process of buying my MINI took nearly 3 hours. I was very impressed with how much time they spent with me (and on a saturday no less).
Anyway, I seem to remember them mentioning that various little details are different on the 05s compared to the 04s. The tool kit might be one of them. On mine, it is located in the battery compartment just lift the carpeting in the boot and it should fit snuggly in the inch or two of space around the battery. I'm sure the MC models are different, since their batteries are under the bonnet.
I included a pic so you know what you're looking for.

OK - so its not where they said it was......
Well, even though the 05 manual does not make any mention of it, the tool kit is stuffed next to the battery at the back. Completely enclosed and unlabeled. Thanks guys. And thanks bmovierat!

What is the huge eyelet looking thing? It is not for lifting my Mini out of the ditch, is it?
Also what is the spare box in the battery compartment the battery cable goes into?
The eyelet is a tow hook to pull the car with. There is a towing point in the front and rear bumpers.Little 1/2 moon piece pulls off and a place to thread the hook is behind it.With our winters,I got another and leave them in for the winter months.Don't want to be installing it in the ditch, hopefully won't have to use them
Hey Joe:
Thanks for asking about the tool kit. I just went out and found mine... I'm not sure I've ever seen it before. But then, I've only had this car for -- oh -- about two years! Better late than never, I guess
.
Getting late... time to brush
