I notice when people try to get out they pull very hard on the lever cuz it doesn't open on the first pull. I swear one of these days one of my muscle bound buddies is going to pull the thing right off. It would be nice if everything unlocked when you turned the car off. I really hate when I go around to the boot to get my stuff and the freaking thing is locked.

My 04 MCS is programed so that when you turn the key off, both doors plus boot un-lock.

apecer, i would love to have your set up but my dealer was unable to set up my MINI the way I requested.

MINIclo- you should get that fixed cuz it sounds dangerous. I think you may need to use the toggle to unlock before you turn the ingnition off. I know that if I start the car then try to unlock the passenger door with the toggle it won't open and my wife gets pissed, so I have to reach over and pull the lever once to unlock for her.

Thanks sbgobig! I'll HOPEFULLY be getting it all sorted out this coming Monday. It's been a very big drag for too long. You know how it is....life happens! LOL!

Did your dealer give you a reason? You have an 04 - no reason I know of that you can't have this option activated.

You are absolutely right. The auto unlock function is an aesy programming function for the MA to do. There is so much variability in the competence of these MAs nationwide, you'd think MINI would train them properly.

The MA doesn't do it (or any of the programming) service does. They actually plug into the car's computer...

Believe it or not all BMW products require two pulls of the door handle to open the door. I am not sure what is the logic behind this. I will have my dealer program the locks to automatically unlock the doors upon removal of the key from the ignition. For now what I do, I unlock all doors and boot from the toggle switch and presto, no problems when opening the door from the inside and the boot is opened already when going to the back to get stuff out.

i make it habit to flip the un-lock switch up when-ever i turn the kar off
especially if i have a passenger, i do it quick before they beat up the release

Or just have the service dept. program the car not to lock when moving in the first place. That's how I had my '04 programmed upon delivery, for exactly this reason. The two-pull opening fooled me on my test drive, and I pictured broken passenger handles, asked the MA if I could get a 1-pull opening by disabling the auto-lock, and had it done. Less wear-and-tear on the power lock motors this way, I imagine, too.

I had the exact same problem, and they had to replace the driver's side lock because it was sticking. Good luck!
