My 2008 Cooper S bonnet/hood release has failed. I pulled the lever inside the car and the cable has pulled through. HELP! Is there another way to get the hood open.?

OK readers, I found the above vid on YouTube regarding the lever inside the car. I had noticed that I could see a lot of the white (nylon?) outer cable and it also had come loose as in vid. I glued and ziptied , (there is a handy hole you can use to pass the tie thru) and then proceeded to lube the hell out of the two catches. I suggest that the latches are actuated with the bonnet open to show all the sliding and pivot points that need lube.
I am considering running a couple of wires off these latches that are accessible but hidden as backup if the cables should fail.
As an aside,the gent in the video removed the whole panel to access the handle mechanism. I was able to pull the panel, after a little prying with a screw driver, at a point halfway down the footrest to the left of the foot controls, and the panel moved enough so I could access the outer cable clip.
