Just got a call from the dealer again - MY CAR IS IN!!!!!!!!

"It looks lovely from the outside," he said, "Chili red/chili red exterior wasn't it?"
"Yes..." I said, picking up on the edge in his voice, waiting for the 'but...'
"And the interior - cloth / leather Satellite blue/black?"
"Err... no. I seem to remember ordering Black/black or grey." I got my copy of the order out, which is sitting next to the phone. "It doesn't specify a colour on my order."
"No," he replied "That's the worrying thing, it doesn't specify on our records either. It has come blue/black."

No offence to anyone else who has blue/black - but - Euwwww! Not with CR/CR!
I'm impressed he has phoned me up to check that something didn't look right tho'.
He said he'd phone back once he'd spoken to his manager.

He phoned back less than five minutes later to say the records they've found seem to specify black/black. They've asked me to come and have a look at it tomorrow to see what I think - if I like it then they'll keep it like that, if not, he said they'd see what they could do.

Yay! I see my new car tomorrow! And it's not even September!

Wonder whose fault the ****-up was. What do you reckon?

I'd like to join the Can't wait for September club. I just put a deposit (8/20/03) on a CR/wht MCS fully loaded (except Nav) with wht racing stripes and aero kit (Italian job clone) It's on the boat as we speak (I got lucky the dealer had one coming in unaccounted for). It's due to arrive the first week of September, but right now I'm scheudled to have it delivered to my house 9/13/03. My 2003 Laguna Seca Blue M3 was stolen a couple of weeks ago so I have to wait till my insurance pays off that lease before I can take delivery of the MCS.

I CAN"T WAIT FOR SEPTEMBER.

I'm delighted to read that the Jingu Maru did reach New York ahead of schedule yesterday. I notice, though, that the shipping line still list it as not having docked in NYC yet. Anyone know why. This is not to be an alarmist, I am certain the Minas have enough black and tans in them to swim to shore if necessary. I'm just curious.

The website shows it already departed for Charleston, SC. I am not sure where you are looking...

Well, Deli, it is book marked at the office so I can't check the address. It is the shipper's where you click "auto", key in the VIN number, then click on the ship name for status. As of about 3:00pm CST it didn't show it docked. Then again, you said it was arriving a day early long before mine finally read the 21st today.

Obviously you have more prowess than me in tracking. Again, I know we all have appreciated your helping the rest of us.

 

Where are you? Perhaps it is a time zone thing. Also, I was online at 5 am eastern time. I'm not much of a sleeper!

 

I'm in Iowa, Central Standard Time. Maybe the shipping company is part of the vast coastal conspiracy to make us midwasterners look like slow-minded yahoos

Update on my MINI...

Went to see it yesterday - my heart was racing as I went into the showroom!
From the outside it looks good - except they put the stripes around the intake, not in the intake like I wanted.
The interior wasn't as bad as I was expecting, to be honest. I could've lived with the blue seats I think - but not the blue carpet. (BTW - sorry if I annoyed anyone in my last post with my outburst about blue interiors - it was a heat of the moment comment when I was ticked off.)
However, I decided not to take the car with the blue interior.
So - the dealer is going to see if there are any other MINIs currently in stock which match my spec. and if not they have a demonstration car on order which hasn't gone into production yet that I can change the spec. on.
That's quite good news as firstly I still don't have the means to pay for the car yet and secondly I've changed my mind about the original spec!

This probably means I'll have to join the 'Can't wait for October Club' thread tho'.

 

I think you made a good decision. I saw a CR/CR at a dealer in Philly with the blue interior. I thought it really looked like a mismatch. (although I have seen the blue interior with other exteriors and liked it). It makes sense to wait a few more weeks for the pleasure of years without the "ugh...why did I accept this?" feelings.

inioway--what is the Owner's Lounge showing as your estimated delivery date? Has it changed recently?

 

The dealers phoned up again today and said they've found a CR/CR MCS with the black interior, but none of the other extras that I wanted.
I told him there was little point me getting a new car if I don't get what I want in it, and so the dealers hare letting me re-spec the demo car they have on order.

Thanks to reading the posts over on 'audio' I've added one thing to my original spec - HK system, after having heard it will be mp3 compatible as standard in the 04 build.
The dealer didn't know about this.
Or about having stripes in the MCS intake.

I pointed him this way! Hope he doesn't read my posts!

Looks like my car and your car are on the same plan. i can get mine on Sat. too. My only issue is *ahem* i'm a little short on the money. i was fine when i first ordered a couple months ago - but several unexpected bills later (read Vet for dog). And the MINI is just out of my reach. i'm not freakin' yet - but, boy Sat. is close. *crossing my fingers*

I've been surprised at the number of posts of "wrong trim" on MCO the past few weeks. Is this simply a matter of more options lead to more mistakes? Or is it related to the wrap of the 2003 production year? The latter doesn't seem likely, since MINI makes cars to spec.

 

Deli, sounds like you might be right. I just checked the shipping manifest and my car was discharged from the Jingu Maru in Charleston on Monday. It should be at my dealer tommorow!!

The dealer will have it a day or so to do the Aero kit and stuff then I'll be motoring.

By the way, this morning my MCS shows up at the Distribution Center on the Owner's Lounge with an estimated delivery date changed from the 27th to the 30th. Funny thing is, I think it arrived at the dealer yesterday...Will MINIUSA ever get its Owner's Lounge act together?

I just got the call. My MINI will be arriving at the dealer this weekend and I will be able to pick it up Sept. 2. I might have to take a trip to the dealer on Sunday to sneak a peak. The wait is almost over.

 

The Tokyo Highway has set sail today from Southampton. It is still on schedule to dock in NYC on 9/8 and Charleston 9/12. It's not showing up yet in Accuweather tracking.
