What - they're expecting Apple to change connections? Never mind that all of Apple's newly released devices have Lightning connectors and not the 30 pin...

I think he was just using it as an excuse. He had no information on it and was probably speculating.

After renaming the ipod out, got it to work fine. It has been flaky sometimes it sees it sometimes it doesn't. I have been pretty impressed so far. Thanks for all the hard work. Has anyone found the best settings to display out? 800x600 or less seems to work anything higher no dice. Probably the limitations of the display. Anyway connected is now what it could be.

I think the resolution setting is the max supported resolution - it should find the highest one that works. Once it actually displays on the Mini scree, I seem to be able to change the resolution setting to anything. Not sure what the Mini screen's resolution is though.

I haven't found a good way around the flakiness though. It seems to always take me about 20 or 30 seconds of fiddling with settings to get it to display.

mct / Zalizoe…I should be receiving my prochip for video any day now…DHL shows it arriving in the US on Friday. Is the link to Amazon you provided still the correct cable you used to reach yout ProClip mount ? My findings are that most do not contain the video pass thu like the official supplied Y cable from Mini. Please confirm when you can. I plan on ordering it later today. I have a seperate usb & a seperate 3 ring (3rd being to transport the video) rca cord going there now, but the shortest with the 3 rings I've found is 6' long, but would like to neaten it up. Thanks

I don't think to have posted any link to buy a cable from amazon.
I bough my cable at mini dealer and i did the same with the snap in.
With both you can see video. They do the same job.
Sure the official cable is expansive and the snap in is super expansive (about 200€).
I found this: http://www.minigenuineparts.co.uk/cg...y=0&PR=-1&TB=A

A few pages back…mct posted a link to Amazon indicated this cable was purchased and supplies video as well. I actually have the armrest with snqp-in cradle and all works well, including video. Saw the ProClip mount and thought it might be nice at times to have the phone mounted outside of the armrest. I have a pretty high end cables & connectors shop near by and have been unable to duplicate a single extension that works works video with the Mini Y cable. But mct states all is working fine with this partucular cable listed here:

Big Ups to Wickywack

Beyond Jailbreaking and installing DisplayOut, I had to do one other step to get it to work. When the iPhone is connected to the Mini, a hidden app called iPodOut.app is triggered. This app seems to take control of the TV-out and interfere with DisplayOut. By renaming it and rebooting, it's no longer launched when connected. Instead, DisplayOut mirroring works. :-)

To rename, I:

(1) Installed iFile from Cydia.
(2) Started iFile and navigated to /Applications
(3) Found iPodOut.app and clicked on the blue arrow to the right.
(4) The top line should read "Name iPodOut.app". Click on this and rename to "iPodOut.app$".
(5) Reboot.

Next time I connected to the Mini with DisplayOut enabled, my screen mirrored properly on the Mini Display. Note, the iPadOut.app is the one that shows the nice Apple TV like interface of your playlists, etc. That no longer works since I renamed it, but it was interfering with everything else.
Wanted to thank Wickywack publicly for the instructions to enable mirroring. Worked like a charm after renaming that file using iFile. Kudos!

Flyer, does video out really work via the snap-in adapter? What is the p/n of your snap-in? Which iPhone are you using?

I have never found an answer on that anywhere, including MINI/BMW. But someone led me to believe that the snap-in is not wired for the video.

MiniDan…. That's a looooong story. But to keep it simple & short. Yes it does. Ofcourse with vehicle at stand still and E brake engaged. Hoping the prochip from the guys in Germany will otherwise allow it. Not sure if it will be through the cradle but sure sounds like it will with the provided Y cable. As far as the cradle. with the help of New Country Mini, both service & parts, especially Parts Mnger, Darin Stricker, I've purchased, tried and returned every possible cradle out there. I've been using the existing one for just over a year now. No problems going from the 4 to my current 4s including all IOS updates/upgrades. This is the one that will charge, supply Album Art and provide you video, take calls..even siri works but you need to get to the phone to activate. Hopefully sooner than later there will be some type of update to use the phone button on the wheel...…I've attched a few shots of the Snap in Cradle PART # 84.21-2 218 390-02. There may be a new model out there. But this one does it all. Obviously nothing for the 5 as the physical dimensions have changed, and it sure sounds as Mini/BMW have no interest re-tooling for the 5, probably close to a 6 later this year.

Ok. So I'm getting the message via the mini plugin to connect the external device with a video enabled cable yada yada. When I plugin, I get a popup message saying video out is enabled. But when I go to the plugin it says the external display is disconnected. And then the mini asks to get plugged in above.

Any clues how to get this to work?

Mini supplied Y cable...

Thanks, Flyer! I do recall reading that long thread where you were trying all the cradles, but I couldn't see for sure that the one you finally settled with really supported video.

I actually have an iPhone 5, but I presently keep my old iPhone 4 in the armrest, connected via the Y-cable. If I can get the same functionality with a snap-in adapter then that makes everything a bit cleaner.

I have found the video functionality to be useful while waiting in the car with the kids, or even by myself.

Yes…you should have no issues with the 4 and that cradle. Start the mini connected app prior to popping the phone in the cradle and you'll get google search. google send to car(my favorite) ofcourse FB and all those apps as well. Still waiting for my chip from Germany…that will supposedly let me watch videos any time. Purchased a Proclip that snaps on to the dash to the right of the CD Player…made just for the Countryman, looks great. and a 2' extender for the Y cable. So i'll have both options if doesn't work via the cradle…it's been proven via the Y cable. I was thinking of doing the same…keeping the 4s as it fits the cradle and get the 5 or hold of until the 6 and use it via the cable…..

I went by Seattle MINI a few weeks ago and asked them which cradle supported all functions of the Y-cable. First they gave me part number 84-21-2-199-390 ($197.42); I believe he said that was a newer version that replaces p/n 84-21-2-218-390. Then, after a little more staring at his computer screen, he changed to p/n 84-21-2-298-308, and I believe he said that part was more like $250. Bottom line is that they didn't really know what the right p/n was. They didn't stock any of the cradles, and I would have had to pay in advance for them to order one to even try out.

I also emailed the other MINI dealership in my area, Northwest MINI, about it, but never even received a response.

It is amazing to me that MINI provides this snap-in cradle functionality, and BMW/MINI make all these different cradles, yet nobody seems to have any idea which one to use in a particular car or what functionality it provides.

Agreed, it does vary from dealership to dealership. Since mini connected was introduced with the required armrest with the option for the cradle, apple has changed phones, IOS's, Etc....it took them a while to catch up... Then there were issues with some of the phones getting bit warmer, so they added a mini fan in the cradle...some just charged and worked as a phone, some also played music and eventually those with all that plus media, album art and video. Thus many different models out there. But I can verify my model with "Media" works perfectly. If I remember correctly my cost was around 280-290 ish, but i've seen them in the mid $200. Google the part # and I'm sure you'll get all the info needed, if your looking to take that plunge. I figured I spent the $250 plus to get the armrest prepped for the cradle.....might as well make use of it...

BTW today I found out there's a new version of mini connected app for iphone and an update for the connected software.
It says this upgrade should solve problems for iphone 5 users with ios 5 and 6 and a better menage of emails.
Maybe in the States it's different.
Ciao

OK, I managed to get this to work after a day of messing around (and bringing the mini to the dealer).

I followed Wicky's instructions, jb, displayout, etc. But, every time I connected, I was met with a message along the lines of "connect video enabled y-cable" whenever I entered through the Plugin under Mini Connected. I thought it might have been a problem with the cable, but then I realized, I'd never actually played video through Mini Connected this whole year I've had the car and wasn't sure how to. Too occupied with driving, I suppose.

Anyway, long story short. Play a video that is residing on your iPhone under External Devices. You can launch the video from your Mini console (via the folders).

When the video starts up, that's when DisplayOut kicks in and your iPhone screen should be mirrored on the Mini Connected screen..

I haven't gotten it to work via Mini Connected yet. Will give it a try later.

FWIW, I often have to disable and reenable DisplayOut (in Settings) once to get it to kick in after I'm in PlugIn mode. That almost always works for me.

For the conversation about the Media Cradle (arm rest), I just received my order from Sewell Parts:

Installed it yesterday and have had no problems with the connected app or any of the media on my iphone4.

[EDIT: Looks like video and the specific Plugin option don't work. The MINI Connected Apps do as well as music.]

Thanks for that. And by "any of the media" you mean video too (while parked)?

Seems I need to amend my statement to "all the things I had available to check at the time". Looks like the Plugin option and the Video options are unavailable with this adapter.
