I start it with 800x600 or some 720hd numbers, when it doesn't mirror; I go in to the settings and change it the another lower or upper resolution. It is not important which one you choose, just change the choice. Then it mirrors again.

Actually, it did. When the 30-pin adapter was introduced in 2003, it had pins for everything and more in reserve for future use. Within five years, all the pins were used and to add functionality such as HD video output Apple was hacking its own pinout, using first resistors to change voltages as a way of signaling that certain pins should be treated differently, and implementing hacks to the USB protocol to modify data connections.

It's been clear for years that the 30-pin adapter was no longer sufficient for all the uses people have found for iPhones, iPods and iPads. The lightning connector is an all-digital re-programmable connector intended to address those problems. It has been a painful transition for those of us with lots of older equipment—I have docks, several iPod speakers, chargers, VGA/HDMI/component video cables, SD card readers, and our cars which depend on the older 30-pin connector—but it had to happen sooner or later.

And interestingly, with AirPlay for audio and video and cameras that do their own photo uploads, I don't need most of those anymore! My MINI is virtually the only place I need an adapter now. Everything else is wireless and far more flexible than a wired setup.

YMMV.

So I gave up trying to get a working solution for my Iphone 5. Either way too much trouble or too expensive to get around streaming video from it.

I wound up picking up an old Ipod Touch on Ebay for $50 and the damn thing works great now. I still can have my iPhone connected via bluetooth for calls or navigation updates.

I was finally able to get it to work by renaming the Ipodout.app file, but now when I when ever I touch the screen a white dot shows up only on the Mini screen. Sometimes only one but I've had up to six once and they won't go away unless I toggle Displayout off/on.

Anybody else seen these and know a way to get rid of them?

I think its a setting under DisplayOut called show taps. Toggle that to "never".

Exclamation Dots, video sharp, carplay

Hi Friends
I`m from Lima-PERU (sorry my english) and just succeded
making an iP4 works with my R56 with iOS7, but have 3 questions, maybe you can help me:
1. I have several white dots on screen, I try disable Displayout but nothing, they still there.
2. The resolution in Displayout is set in HD 1080 (not sharp) but I wonder if the iP4S have better video signal than iP4 or is the same and its because the analog signal.
3. I see the Apple Carplay news and read about it comes with the new iOS7 update, I wonder if this feature override Displayout like iPodOut app and maybe have to rename it or something like that. Or maybe its a better interface to display in Mini Connected, but seems to work only in Lightning devices.
Thanks to all

Hello Ricardo, in the DisplayOut settings did you turn off "Show Taps"

After I did that and restarted my phone the dots went away.

I'm using a deactivated 3gS only as a iPod only in the car and for me the video is not the best but I was not expecting cinema quality, just something to make the drive from work to home easier.

Let me know if you get it worked out.

James

I´m not looking for a digital quality but have an iPod Nano (sixth gen) and the artworks of the songs displays better than an older iPod Classic 160gb.
I don´t test the quality of iP4S maybe have better quality because its the last device with 30pin connector.
How you hold your iPhone? have the dock extension?
Bad news Carplay only works with lightning devices because its a better interface
thanks!

CarPlay will probably NEVER come to the current generation of MINIs... Supporting it would require a pretty major update to MINI Connected, and that's assuming that the current generation of the system is technically capable of supporting it...

It will be a complete system replacement, just like MINI Connected was a new system introduced in 2011 and cannot be retrofitted to 2010 and earlier electronics. CarPlay won't be on MINI until they refresh the F56 electronics. Watch for adoption on BMW (which hasn't announced anything yet about dates or car models), and if history is any indication, expect MINI to lag another year or two behind BMW.

I know that, but I thought use the same plugin way, instead the springboard or the iPodout, show the Carplay interface. But only works with Lightning devices and their only output through Airplay. Thks

I'm curious if my girlfriend's 4S will display a better picture too. I'll have to check one day.

Right now the iPhone lays on the passenger seat at an angle to keep the screen in landscape mode. I just bought one of these cd slot mounted cell phone holders on eBay. I will have to make some extention cable to reach it too.
I did find out the tension **** hits our volume **** so I will have to modify the mount to make it fit better.

Hi, anyone have you tested the Kivic One to airplay Iphone 5 to Mini Connected?
one of these links seems to need an extra interface like Audison Bitone or similar to get RCA video input but I wonder if it works with the Mini 3.5mm input in dash, because comes with an 3.5mm a/v input/output cable in the box.
They say that Mini Coopers in Korea comes with HDMI input. : /

Actually it works with or without touch. Carplay has the mappings for input controls. I don't see why BMW or a hack couldn't use the plugin function of the iPod display. I get thunderbolt is digital and it doesn't carry analog video but it does plug in USB. You would think there would be a way. Digital to analog converter. Something.

I think it truly depends on how apple is triggering the Carplay. If its using Airplay maybe something like the kivic one could be the in-between device.

To bad there is no a thunderbolt to 30pin with video adapter.

I'd venture Apple will have nothing to do with the retrofit market for their unshipped solution. It's a morass, best left to 3rd parties and Apple's not shown a lot of support for anything other than trivial add-ons from that market.

Did the Kivic ever actually ship?

The Kivic shipped if you ordered directly from them in South Korea. I originally thought they had a plugin for the mini, but I think you need another adaptor to plug into the display. They have screenshots of it mirroring on a mini but no clear instructions on how they did it.

I wrote to KIVIC fanpage and they didnt know about connect through 3.5mm plug cable that they ship in the box, the pictures they show airplaying an iPhone 5 in Mini Connected screen was on korean Mini Cooper which comes with HDMI input.
When iOS 7.01 jailbreak will release, we can try to plugin with an iPhone4S if that system runs on it.

the right cable (miniplug with 4 divisions) should work with Mini Connected input, and Airplay with iPhone 5
