Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
Tom or some Dice expert:
Initially things worked (yesterday) but today when I go to IPOD mode I can not move from one song to another with my steering wheel controls in any mode on my IPOD. The volume works. I can switch songs from my IPOD also. Any ideas?

CDC 1 cycles through individual songs; CDC 3 cycles through albums. I think 2 is for playlists. 4 appears to be for ebook chapters. Took me awhile to figure that out too. I wish there was one for artists.
ordered the Ipod adapter for my 2007 S
actually , I ordered it without having an Ipod
, 2night iam going to buy an Ipod , Iam looking forward in buying the 60 GB , are all Ipod devices works well with the adapter? or shall I get a specific design , I believe the nano wont work maybe?

I checked the fuse and it is fine. I get power to the iPod, and I can hear it, but control is limited to the iPod. Also, I get quite a bit of alternator whine while the car is running, and a noticable "whistle" when the engine is revved up a bit. Has there been a fix for the whine? I have heard of others with this problem.

Some MINIs are more sensitive to engine noise than others. Here is a link to the version we offer on the website:
12 Amp Power Noise Filter

Let me know if you have any further questions!
Glad MINI was able to get you back up and running. Here's the rundown:
CD1 = Songs within a Playlist
CD2 = Playlist Selection
CD3 = Albums within a Playlist
CD4 = Chapter search in Audiobooks
CD5 = iPod/AUX modes
CD6 = not used in MINI
Did you get an instruction manual with the kit? This will explain the features in more detail.
Unfortunately the MINI that was scheduled to show up last week never made it. Hopefully we can get him rescheduled soon so we can get to the bottom of this on NAV vehicles.

I realize this thread gets jumbled with everyones questions, so I thought I would repost. You said that I may need a new unit if the 2amp fuse was fine, which it was. Do you have any other suggestions? Do you think I need a new unit?
Thanks,
James
The DICE could be picking up interference from other devices in the vehicle. You can try relocating the wire to see if the noise is diminished or if you cannot find the source of the noise - a ground loop isolator must be used
The fuse you told me to check because I couldn't get the unit to go into DICE mode. You said in an earlier post that I may need a new unit. The alternator whine question was just a side question to the main one. to recap: My DICE unit I bought from you will only allow the iPod to control the input. No matter what the orientation of the dip switches. I reset my iPod (with proper firmware), disconnected everything, reconnected, and still could not get it in DICE mode. You said to check the fuse, which was in good condition. I don't know what to do at this point, any other ideas would be welcomed.
Thanks,
James

I have an '04 Cooper (and I love it, of course) with the HK sound upgrade, and had installed an ICElink connector (the one that had an integrated iPod holder and was controllable by the steering wheel).
It seems to have gone kaput. My dealership checked the connections, etc. and says it seems to be the unit itself.
So, I need a replacement. From what I've seen on here it looks like the DICE is the best option (but am more than willing to entertain alternatives).
What I'd like (in some hypothetical universe) is:
I'd love some advice on (a) is DICE the answer (b) will it do what I want (c) exactly what do I need to buy (cables, mounting thingy [that's the technical term], DICE itself, others?) and (d) any recommendations on from whom.
Many thanks in advance!

What I'd like (in some hypothetical universe) is:
- my iPod held nicely for me
- my song names on my radio display (no, the ICE didn't have this)
- iPod charged automatically
- iPod shut off when car is off
- ability to control iPod via steering wheel (min: volume, songs forward and back, but other controls would be nice too)

We have an upgrade plan for existing ice>Link users. This will allow you to retain your existing wiring and just swap the module to get you back up and running:
DICE iPod Integration Kit for Mini Cooper - *UPGRADE*

Let me know if you have any further questions.
Your MY04 MINI is not capable of displaying text - this is a radio limitation and not the DICE itself. However all other options will still be present like your ice>Link one was - with the addition of an integrated AUX port and allowing the iPod's Clickwheel to remain unlocked.

So, I don't know if I had an IceLink _plus_ ... your webpage says: "assumes you have the trunk interface wiring". REALLY dumb question, but do you mean the wiring harness that goes from the back of the radio to the unit?
Also, since mine stopped working, is it OK to assume that the wires are all fine?
Again, many thanks for your help.
I don't know if it helps, but here's the original email exchange I had with the Denison support people -- as you can see I got the "integrated" dock holder icelink right after it was released:

While possible, more than likely these are not the problem.
Ok, I skimmed (very quickly) through the postings and didn't see this answered so hopefully Tom or someone can help me.
My details:
My details:
- 2006 Cooper S with Harmon/Kardon
- 3rd gen. iPod (40Gb, 4 buttons below the screen), firmware is up to date
- Controls on the iPod do absolutely nothing. The only exception is when the backlight on the iPod goes out I can touch one of the buttons to make it come back on.
- Will the iPod stop playing (or pause) when I turn the car off? It seems to keep playing right now (obviously not through the speakers).
- If the iPod does stop/pause when I turn the car off, will it begin playing at that point when I start my car again?

I should have mentioned... that was the first thing I tried. The lock icon will appear and not appear based on the position of the slider.
Try rebooting the iPod by pressing the MENU & PLAY/PAUSE buttons on the iPod until the screen blanks out and an apple logo is seen. The iPod should not be connected to the DICE when this is performed.
Is there one for XM Direct? I hate the XM antenna on my roof (after other locations were tried).
Was there a answer from Tom on this one? I have the same problem. I am not sure what my dealer did with 30" of my cable that attaches to the ipod because I have about 6 coming out of the glove box??
Is there even an extension available; @ Apple OR?
