Yup, I know he was asking how to, but I wanted to see in the screenshot if the icon was missing or so to understand if that was a different version. There is the MINI services icon there in replacement of MINI Connected's.

Now I can't recall which version of MINI Connected I had on my system last Saturday when I updated mine.

For Jimmy, did you try updating to the latest version of the firmware in the way I was explained in the lines above? Try that and see if that changes your screen to include MINI Connected. Also, remember that MINI Conncted is a two-piece app (your smartphone AND the entertainment system, and your smartphone has to be running the app at all times when you plug it in via the Y-cable to the car.)

1. Download the file from here:
http://www.mini.com/connectivity/sof...ate/index.html

2. Extract UPD01006.bin from the .zip file. Make sure that you get the actual UPD01006.bin, and not a folder called UPD01006. If you're on a Mac, do not use Archive before it will extract the wrong content. Download and install a free version of Pacifist (http://pacifist.en.softonic.com/mac). if you're on a PC, my assumption would be to extract it manually with Winzip or a simialar application.

3. Copy the UPD01006.bin file in a USB stick. MINI recommends using one that is formatted with FAT32 (usually those with more that 4gb of capacity). It must be copied to the root of the USB stick, not inside any folder.

4. With the engine on (but in stop mode!), insert the USB stick in the center console of the car, where the Y-Cable is. with the joystick, go to Settings > Software Update > Update Software.

It will take like 5 minutes to extract files and install itself.

Please see if this helps. Otherwise, a hack will be needed to enable MINI Connected.

Cactusbob, is this the same process you went through in order to get it to work?

(I'm planning on creating an unofficial MINI Connected landing page in order to create a full tutorial that people can use as a guide )

Nope, I initially enabled it by changing two settings in the coding of the CHAMP2 module on the car. I then went back and added Mini Connected to the VO string. Our Australian friend there actually has a later version of media software installed on his unit than I do. The updates to the headunit software don't seem to have any effect on the Mini Connected, rather they are more to do with USB and Bluetooth changes. I'm afraid the only way to enable it would be to code it in if it is not already enabled.

Exactly, that was my initial assumption. I myself am not capable of writing a single line of code, and this sounds like very "advanced motoring" Don't know if he will be able to get in there and make those changes.

hehe .. i"m not really Australian ... just living here for a while

I tried to update the software again to to sure and not success ...
In regards to the coding I did already exactly the same, just added Connected to the VO string. No success .. ..
And the dealer confirmed that it's definitely possible and only a software change or setting and it would work.

progressing a bit further I could now update mini-connected! I enabled the bluetooth datatransfer and now by clicking on Update i saw the system connecting somewhere and something was downloading ....
After around 10-15minutes i even got a "successfully updated" message but then still no sign of success and i still can't pair the app and the mini .

is this update process something you have with the connected somewhere, and what needs to be done next?

Ooh, haven't seen that before. Can you share what you did to enable that option?

Hi cactusbob

actually you get to this menue by enabling in the CHAMP2 Module the ENTWICKLER_MENUE
I then enabled bluetooth data transfer as this was for sure disabled in my car as well
... as soon as this was active i have the data option in every menu ... can chose to tick.
the god thing is since then i got SMS displayed and read on to the mini boost radio .. just new ones though , i mean that you get while you currently drive...

so far no progress on how to get this bloody connected working??????

Code:
ENTWICKLER_MENUE
	aktiv

BT_DATA_SERVICE
	aktiv

Yesterday, I posted something and I realized just now that it was on a different thread.

Was driving around when I hit a rather deep pothole. :-(

I immediately pulled over and checked her out: no visible damage to the wheels or exterior.

My wife and I were distressed by the incident, but after a few minutes, engine said: "it's like driving a little piece of heaven! Be MINI!" That made us feel better! :-)

Update is possible only with the combox. Do you have it?

Ok I've read pages upon pages trying to find answer to some questions.

Have overloaded my 4s with music and apps, can't seem to find an 4s available with 32 or 64g.
I am wondering if there is a snap in adapter for iPod touch?

If so can I use it to just hold music and leave in car with iPhone connected to y cable for connected functions?

I have an iPod classic 120gb connected to the USB. I then put my iphone in the armrest snap in for Connected. That way I can take my entire music collection along

Not sure if there is a snap in adapter for the touch, but you can keep an iPod Touch in the car and connected for music - just can't use the streaming apps unless you have a way to share an internet connection with the touch.

BTW - you also don't have to use the Y cable. You can use the Apple cable + a male to male audio cable to connect an iPhone or iPod. This give you some extra length and give you some options when it comes to stashing your iDevice of choice...

No there is not an armrest adapter. I bought the apple one hoping it would work but the ipod touch is too small. That being said with some engineering you could probably get it to work.I could hold the touch in place and get it to work with it. I just wasn't going to pay that much money for something I had to turn around and jury rig.

I have mine connected to the y cable and leave it in the car. The only pain with that is you have to unlock the Ipod touch everytime you get in for the apps to work. I really wish you could set the ipod to stay unlocked and yet still sleep. Not sure what apple is thinking on that.

That and it leaves your ipod dangling on the cable out in the open, not sure what Mini is thinking there.

Which one did you use? I don't care if I have to rig it up as long as once it's in it will stay in and charge.

Like you said I'd prefer the armrest so that it says out of sight. The neighborhood I park at for work, well lets just say they have broken into our cars for a lot less than a visible apple product.Worried for my ragtop.

Starting to consider duct taping it into trunk.

Just get the one that is for the I phone. You will just need to engineer a spacer so to speak to make the ipod touch as tall as the I phone and it should work well.

Y-Cable or Dock?

Sup all,

I am waiting on delivery of my newly purchased MCS. I have been surfing through this thread because I have opted for the MINI Connected. Issue is I was going to be purchasing the new Samsung 4s, not realizing that MINI Connected was more I-Phone friendly. Anyhow, I am now ok with purchasing the Iphone 5. I see that many of you have solved issues with the updated IOS and all, so that's good news for me.

Question is, due to the expensive price of the Y-Cable and or Armrest Dock, which should I get. I know the Dock is not out yet for the 5. But is it worth waiting for. I am not looking to stealth my I Phone connection due to the fact my phone is always with me, my life line. Also I really want the Otterbox case, cause i tend to drop phones a lot, LOL.

So, I just want to know which connection will give me full use of my MINI Connected?

Sorry for elaborate write up, just want to spend money the right way the first time.

Thanks

Y-Cable or Dock

Hello all,

New to NAM...

Been reading this thread and I know the dock is not out yet for the I Phone 5, But should I hold off til it comes out or just buy the Y cable. Which one gives the user 100% use of the MINI Connected system.

Thanks

Not sure exactly what your question is. Should you hold off on what? There is no "Y cable" with the lightning connector.

If you "hold off" on getting MC until there's an iPhone 5 dock, you'll be holding out on getting a MINI until there is one. You can't order MC after you've already got your car.
As for the Y-cable, it's a simple matter of getting the "lightning-to-30 pin" adapter from Apple and using that to plug your iP5 into the Y-cable. You should have no problem using all of MC with that setup.
