Absolutely. It's more likely it would be a cable. But will they? The R & D alone may not make it worth it for them. And then by the time it's ready who knows what Apple will do to thwart MINI's efforts by changing the way the video is output. It's frustrating. Make me wish I had by iPhone 4 again.

I wonder if the software is on the phone or locally installed in the car. Maybe they would add it to the app list? Doubt it but you never know. If the software is on the phone then there is always the possibility you could jailbreak the phone and access it. You can mirror a jailbroken iPhone currently to the display with display out.

Software is not on the phone... The existing Lightning to USB adapter can't carry video which has been discussed ad nauseum in this thread.

An adapter needs to be produced that can carry the video through the Lightning to USB adapter. The 30 pin adapters support the video out, the Lightning ones don't.

My guess is that the changes coming to IOS7 get around this limitation by not using different channels to control and mirror the iPhone than the video out that was used in the past.

Minor correction: 30 pin supported ANALOG video.

Lighting supports digital video only.

MINI could theoretically make a Lighting Y adapter that does the digital-to-analog conversion themselves.

Sounds like I will need to keep the iPhone 4s and leave it in the car

The 4s is a great phone. I have the snap in for mine. If you live in a warm climate, don't leave it in the car.

It depends on what you feel you need to have interfacewise... The iPhone5 works just fine with MINI Connected. The only things that don't work are Video and Plug-In, all other functionality works...

And the last time I plugged my iPhone4 in Plug-in stopped working on it as well so all you're going to get is video...

Plug in is invaluable for me. The 4s works great with it. I really enjoy playing my iTunes playlists with full color album art etc...

I'm really confused by all this no-plugin-iphone5 business. I have a 4s and connected. My work friend got a MINI ( this is why we are MINIs best marketing) and has an iphone5. I got her the lightning/30 pin connector. Not only does she see album art with plugin mode, she was delighted to see she could use Pandora ( not through MINI interface but if it was playing on her phone the MINI interpreted it as iTunes audio.)

At this point all I'm seeing I would lose by upgrading my phone is the ability to have hacked nav and screen replication on a jail broken 4s. Which I can't Eben have now since I made the mistake of allowing a firmware upgrade that defeats jail breakage.

Yup my $20 adapter provides all I need minus Video. Only perk I would like is the Armrest adapter to keep things tucked away and discreet

So if she goes to PlugIn under MINI Connected - the MINI recognizes her iPhone5?

How do I find out if I have the latest version of the software? I went to the link below and it shows UPD01006 but I can't find anything similar when scrolling through the menus in the Mini. I went to software update under settings and the format was something like xxx.xxx.xxx from what I remember.

You can check the PDF on the mini connected site. Inside it has the mx and tx version numbers which is reflected inside the car. This should let you know if you need to update.

I hope this isn't covered anywhere in this thread but I have a question re mini connected.
I have a 2010 cooper S with nav. It was built before mini connected was standard. I talked to my dealer and he said that it could be installed aftermarket because I do have the nav but it'll cost me about $1200. I want it, but don't want to spend so much.

Has anyone been able to purchase the part separately and install themselves? I fund the part number but can't find where one might buy that part.
Part ... M65.90.2.219.124

Thanks so much for any info!!

That part number is for an enabling FSC code not a physical part. If you have all the hardware, so the nav system and full bluetooth, you could try enabling it by adding 6NM to your VO and defaulting CHAMP2 and MEDIA with NCS Expert. That's exactly what I did in my 2010 MCS. I'm told though that if you have a later version of software then the FSC code is required.

I was driving around, when "engine" started to sing and "coach" even told him to consider joining a contest. That was fun! :-)

I have a brand new 2013 MCS.

Can I access the Bluetooth A2DP settings within the Mini connected system to turn off the autoplay music 'feature'?

I have both a Nexus 4 (Android 4.3) and an iPhone 4s, and both phones will start playing music through the Mini the second it pairs with the bluetooth. This is extremely annoying and I'd like to turn the auto-start feature off. I know other car systems allow you to access the A2DP menu to modify that setting, but I haven't been able to find it in the Mini.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Weird. I've never had my iPhone 5 autoplay in my 2013 MCS.

Try "forgetting" and re-pairing the phone.

I took delivery of my 2013 JCW convertible in March. In the lot before driving off we verified the iPhone 5 worked with Mini Connected. I was using the Mini "Y" connector and the Apple 30 pin to Lightening short cable since the 30 pin to lightning adapter wouldn't fit with my iPhone 5 bumper. The iPhone was recognized and linked and the Mini Connected app worked, Pandora worked and later in the year the Audible app became connected enabled and worked as advertise. That is, until this past week. One morning I plugged the phone in and it wasn't recognized at all by the Mini. This isn't about a lack of functionality it doesn't "see" the phone at all. The phone is getting charged, but the Mini doesn't know it's there. On the display the front USB port shows "not connected" and of course Mini Connected won't even launch on the car, since there's no connected compatible device found. I've tried two different 30pin to lightning cables and an adapter, no luck. I just left the dealer with a new "Y" connector -- again, no luck. Unfortunately, the dealer service guys iPhone 4 worked with both "Y" connectors, so from their point of view the problem isn't with the Mini. AND Mini's official position is that the iPhone 5 is NOT supported. I'm wondering is there's a way to completely reboot the Mini connected SW in the car, since it worked fine for months and then just stopped working and cable changes didn't fix it, it must be a SW glitch.

Working again, sort of

A hard reboot of the iPhone 5 and now the car sees it again. This worked until I shut off the car. The next trip it wouldn't see the phone again and again a hard reboot of the phone and all was well, again. I guess I can live with that.

Is Mini Connect worth getting the Iphone 5s or 5

Is Mini Connect really worth getting the Iphone 5s , or Sticking with Android and bluetooth?

Do the features of Mini Connect warrant getting an Iphone?
I currently connect my Android phone by bluetooth for MOG/ Spotify, but I long for the day when I can avoid fumbling with my phone at stoplights (looking for other music) and wish my phone would integrate like my ipod.
I realize I need a lightning adapter and will not have video.

Is an Iphone really that much better for plugin apps?

What other features of Mini Connect are a must that I am totally missing out on?

Either way, I am getting a new Phone, although the Galaxy Note 3 looks amazing, I could settle on the Iphone 5s, I am a very Bi-Operating System.
