Need a Sub - Check out the JL Audio 13TW5

JL Audio 13TW5 Subwoofer - I put one of these bad babies in my boot well -it fits great and rocks. I won an SPL contest (1st time ever - did not know what I was doing - might be able to do better) at 135.5 dB with a JL Audio 500/1 amp. The SQ is also very good.

I’m currently running:

Alpine CDA-9886 W/Imprint
Focal 165K2 (both F&R)
JL Audio 300/4
JL Audio 500/1
JL Audio TW5

Congrats on the SPL contest. However, you do realize that photos are required in a post like this, don't you?

oh wow thats pretty good

i have two 10w3's in my mini and i wonder how the sound and such compare with the 13 (a shallow mount right?)
I also have a 500/1 powering the 10w3s so they sound decent and powerful

btw, how much was the 13tw5 if you dont mind?

Pictures - not the best quality. Car looks orange. Mounted the amps under the seats. I forgot to take pictures when installing the amps.

My 2007 MC Stereo Upgrade

I started out by using the MINI head unit (HU). I had my installer put two JL Audio “Slash” amps (4/300 and 1/500 slash series) under the front seats. There is 2” of insulation under the front sets so he cut out the insulation in the shape of the amps and mounted them flush. They look sweet flush mounted flush. Then he installed two pair of JL Audio C2 6.5” component speakers and a 13” JL Audio (13 TW5) thin sub in the rear hatch well.

I did not like the quality of the sound. The head unit sounded terrible and attenuated the low bass signal. So I installed an Alpine 9886 in the secret compartment. I changed out the JL Audio C2 6.5” component sets for a focal 6.5” (165 KR) component sets. I tuned the system with the Alpine Imprint system and it sounds incredible.

The 13 TW5 is a great sub for the MINI and will mount flush in the bottom of the hatch with the factory recommended volume sized box. I can’t say enough about the focal speakers. Alpine head unit – what can I say and JL Audio amps and sub. I don’t have a lot of experience but have not heard a better sound quality system.

I left the stock HU in place (part of the spedo) and I kept it powered but not hooked up to the speakers.

I originally had the stock 6 speaker stereo system.

If I told you where the secret compartment is it would no longer be a secret compartment ha ha! The secret compartment is above the glove box. Not all MC have them. There are many posts on the subject. You can see a picture of my HU in the secret compartment along with the pictures of the sub.

See pictures above. I made it to the exact deminsions of the boot well minus the cargo net fasteners.

That look's better then the so called JL Audio "Stealth" box. Really nice install, one of the best looking boxes IMO.

How did you fit the amps under your seat? With my seat all the way down there is no room.

Thanks

I designed the box - Sound on Wheels Huntsville, AL built and installed the box.

I have no affiliation with them except happy customer - highly recommended - they will take care of you!

The box is made to JL Audio’s recommended volume for that sub and fits precisely in the boot well. When the rear seats are folded down the top of the box is flush with the rear seats.

My installer (Sound on Wheels Huntsville, AL) discovered that there is 2” of foam under the carpet beneath the front seats. They cut out a space in the foam for the amps. The carpet was left and the amps mounted flush with the rest of the carpet and foam. They look as good if not better than the sub install - sorry we screwed up and did not take any pictures when the seats were removed.

Sorry I did not reply to you post sooner. I had two 10W3s in my regular cab truck with the same amp. The 13TW5 in the MC plays louder and sounds better. However the boxes in the truck were not built to the factory specifications. Could not fit boxes that big in the truck. The box in the MC is built to the factory recommended volume and there is more volume (space) in the MC than is in the truck cab.

JL Audio technicians (I called tech support before I bought) claims that it hits like a W3 but has the sound quality of a W6 (I assumed they meant if all subs were the same diameter 13.5"). I would agree with them.

I believe it retails for $499.99.
