There has been one iPhone OS update in the past that broke pairing for a few days, until Apple came out with a fix a few days later- since it's pretty much guaranteed to come with a new firmware it's a possibility that it could have problems, but if there are I expect they would be straightened out right away. MINI's put quite a bit into Apple compatibility.

In case anyone was wondering, the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide (HTC Espresso, with Android 2.1) pairs, syncs the address book and dials with no problems.

I, however, updated my 3GS to the new OS4, and the pairing has been lost.

It technically pairs, but the "quick dial" functionality from the steering wheel has been lost. Navigating to a number, or using voice commands shows either greyed out options (like "CALL") or a message telling me that the function isn't available - and then shows "no network" on my NAV display.

I can use my phone to dial the number, and use the mini as speaker phone, and navigate through my contacts on the car (just not call any of them)

Anyone else seen and fixed that?

pretty please?!

I updated my 3GS to iOS4 and despite re-pairing and doing a hard restart on the iPhone...I have had all kinds of problems with pairing my phone to the car. Basically sometimes it will pair when I get in the car automatically and other times it won't...or only after a long delay.

I'm apparently not the only one...nor is the MINI the only car having problems...there is a rather detailed discussion over at the Apple support site that includes some posts from MINI owners.

http://discussions.apple.com/thread....rt=30&tstart=0

Good thing is that I imagine if the problem is this wide-spread that a fix will be in the offering with the next update.

Thanks! I stumbled across the apple thread too, which reassured me that I wasn't just going a little crazy. Some solace.

For now, the pairing has stuck after some rebooting. I'm fully prepared for it to remain problematic.

Thanks Apple!

Zero problems here, I'm happy to state. I get the iPhone 4 tomorrow, so hope to be able to have as much success with it as I've had with iOS on a 3GS

Just got my 2008 MCS Friday, was away all weekend so I haven't had a chance to mess with this. Is there a simple tutorial on how to set up the iPhone on the hands-free system? I haven't gone into the owner's manual yet, but with all the software updates and stuff, I was wondering if the owner's manual is actually up to speed? TIA!

Pairing LG Ally

Has anyone successfully paired an LG Ally (VS740)? I have a 2009 Clubman and haven't yet successfully gotten it to recognize the LG. No problems with other LG phones (Venus).

Lost my pairing of my iPhone 3G when I updated to iOS4, but (fingers tightly crossed) re-pairing seems to be working just fine. Doesn't stop the *&# thing from crashing with astounding frequency though.... I'm waiting for other carriers to get iPhone4 before I upgrade.

I checked the manual and could not find any reference to using a handheld cell phone in the mini. Anyone?

My 07 came with a sticker on the inside of the windscreen saying not to use one inside the car. Or 2 way radios, etc.

Also the 07 manual says:

Installation and operation of non-MINI
approved accessories such as alarms, radios,
amplifiers, radar detectors, wheels, suspension
components, brake dust shields, telephones,
including operation of any mobile phone from
within the vehicle without using an externally
mounted antenna, or transceiver equipment, for
instance, CBs, walkie-talkies, ham radio or similar
accessories, may cause extensive damage to
the vehicle, compromise its safety, interfere with
the vehicle's electrical system or affect the validity
of the MINI Limited Warranty. See your MINI
Dealer for additional information.

No reports on the LG Ally that I've seen- does it make the initial pairing, and then not connect afterward, or is one of them not even showing the other when Bluetooth is in discovery mode?

Hi OldTimer,

If you're referring to the Bluetooth system, it's instructions are in a separate Bluetooth pamphlet. You should have received it as part of your delivery, but if it was missed or lost, it's also available as a PDF on the MINI USA website:

http://miniusa.com/bluetooth/

They also have a couple videos demonstrating the pairing process for both NAV and non-nav cars. If that doesn't cover the info you were looking for, please let me know!

For those of you with iPhone 4/3GS OS4 issues, it looks like many of the people in the Apple support forums (including MINI owners) have had better luck by:
  1. Deleting the MINI's bluetooth connection from the iPhone (ie. "Forget this device")
  2. Deleting the iPhone's bluetooth connection from the MINI
  3. Hard-resetting the iPhone (holding the power button and home keys until reboot)
  4. Re-pairing the iPhone and car
Scottmd, it sounds like you've done this already- it sounds like Apple support has also suggested a full backup and complete reset of the iPhone. Any chance you've tried this yet?

So I successfully paired an LG Ally with my Mini Clubman. While incoming audio is fine, receivers of my calls tell me that the audio is distant with static. Looks like the Ally / Mini Bluetooth pairing is poor.

I have a Samsung SGH-T139 from T-Mobile. It works fine in my R56. Pairs well, address book syncs, voice dialing, all work.

Hello again.
I just read that part number 842-121-79637 is a snap-in adapter for Blackberry Bold 9700 for bmw E60, E90 etc..
Any chance this will work in a 2008 MCS??
The part numbers for the other snap-in adapters are the same so I believe that this is going to work

Successfully paired the Samsung Behold II (SGH-T939) with my R56. Haven't tried voice dialing but everything else seems to work perfectly.

Great to hear that so many people are having some success. But like I asked earlier, why aren't there any instructions on how to pair an iPhone with a 2008 MCS in the
manual? Or am I missing something? Should the iPhone automatically see the mini's electronics? Am I supposed to switch to AUX? IOW how do I start the process? IOW I need help LOL!

That is TOO funny. Sure... see your Mini Dealer and $pend Money should be what it says!

So, is the bluetooth a module that can be added in the system somehow? It's not really paramount to me, it would be nice, but if its crazy expensive I can live without it or look at alternatives.

They released an upgrade kit a few months ago, but it's around $1000 parts & labor. You'd still need to check to see if it is retrofitable to your MINI.

MFSW is required for the Cruise to work and as MINI only has one set of controls designed you get all the controls even if some of them do not work. Like say you get Bluetooth but do not want Cruise, the controls are there but do not function.

As MiniFireman said there is a retrofit kit available but is rather expensive. As for other options there are many but one of the one that seems to be liked the most is the Parrot 9200 with MINI Connection harness. It give you all the functions (and some better functions than OEM) and with the correct harness is controlled from the steering wheel and sound is thru the stereo system.

Mobil Phone Pairing Problems

I didn't see the LG 365 Neon on the list. I have been able to pair the phone but within a day or two it has lost connection. I have been trying to leave the phone on all the time and it seems to be working still. I thought that when it gets turned off the connection is lost, not sure if that is the cause.
Any thoughts?
Richie

$1000.00 to add bluetooth is insane!!!! Anyone buying that kit has to be a hedge fund manager LOL. I can probably figure out some sort of hands-free setup that'd work for 1/10th or less. Forgive my ignorance, but is MFSW the Multi-Function Steering Wheel? I noticed my cruise doesn't work, so it looks like I have a MFSW that only controls the radio?

Droid X

I went over to my Verizon store today, they had two Droid X floor samples, we tried it in my car (2008 clubman) and it paired and downloaded everything just fine. I'll be in line on thursday morning when it is released. :-)
