2. can it dial from all contacts if read out something like:
Dial Name Joe Smith
Yes on both. For example, you say "dial name" and then wait for the confirmation. Then you say "Joe Smith" and it says "Dial Joe Smith?" You say "yes" and it calls.

Paired 3 of our families' 5 Sprint BB Tour 9630s with 2007 MINI. Everything seems to work fine. contact list transferred. Voice dial seems to work, though I have had limited opportunity to use it.

I have a 2 wk. old Clubman and a Palm Centro (Verizon). It paired easily. For the first week the bluetooth sounded great, both for me and my callers. Then suddenly it changed. Incoming sound quality still great but callers tell me my voice sounds so crackeled and tinny it hurts their ears and they can't understand a thing I'm saying. I am sooooo disappointed. What is happening? MINI customer service says not only my Centro isn't expected to work with this system but that using an "incompatible" phone can actually DAMAGE the MINI's computer and cost thousands to repair (not covered by warranty). This is crazy. Can my phone really hurt the car's system? If my bluetooth was sounding fine for a whole week does that mean there is still hope? Anyone? Helllllllllllllllllllp please.

A few things to note

1. They tell you that to cover themselves as they HAVE NOT tested all phones. They actually have some other company test very few phones.

2. there have only been two phones reported as having a problem The Palm Treo 750 and the Sony Ericson K850i. Both of these would corrupt the bluetooh.

3. As for the Palm Centro. It has been on the list in the past from Verizon (not sure if it still is) but there have been a number of reports here of people having very good luck with the Centro.

4.Check out this thread for moving the bluettoh microphone to the drivers side of the car. Many people find this helpful.
https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/navigation-and-audio/124952-how-to-move-the-bluetooth-microphone.html

5. the Crackling noise coudl be jsut a loose microphone or it coudl be software related. If you have had a very recent software update on the phone this could cause the problem. There are som other things that could cause this as well but see about getting the microphone moved first and then recheck the sound quality.

Thank you for this info. More follow-up: I looked on the compatibility matrix at http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...HjCm-AfA&hl=en, as recommended by someone in this chain (yay). It said the Centro is compatible, but gave a Palm website (http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/com...e/6858_en.html) for a Cento software update ("This software update is a minor tune-up that may improve device usability in certain situations.") The update is 1.03 (I now have 1.02). But it goes on to say that this software is only for Windows users. OUCH. I use a Mac and do all of my HotSyncing and other Palm stuff on my Mac exclusively. Now I feel totally bamboozled. Will try moving the microphone.... though I come back to what I said yesterday: It all worked just dandy for the first week. If it worked fine before I don't know what moving the mike would do (tho' I'll try it). Any other suggestions re the software? Would finding a way to upgrade to Palm Desktop v. 1.03 really make the difference?

When I moved mine the cable was not plugged into the microphone all the way yet it still worked. So if yours is loose that could be causing the problem.

Many people complain that the microphone sounds hollow until moved.

There are at least three other connections that could affect the audio to sound bad as well.

My suggestion is take i one piece at a time for testing.

I moved the microphone today (well .... a friend did it for me....) Now people can at least understand what I'm saying -- so there is a definite improvement -- but the sound quality is still tinny and totally annoying to listen to. (I leave messages on my voicemail and then listen to myself. Yuk!) I think I will try someone else's phone so I can tell if it's the built-in system or the Palm Centro. Just to be specific, the sound is not "hollow." It's just SO tinny and I sound "a little far-away" (to quote one caller). I need to be able to take business calls and this just won't work. I am so disappointed.

Good news; bad news...

The old Treo was reliable and I loved that it synced with the MINI, but it just took up too much real estate in my pocket. I didn't email or browse the web with it so didn't and wouldn't pay for the data package (Verizon). I really liked that it would also synch with MS Outlook, but since I have an Ipod Touch and a Macbook, I figured I could make the calendar transition. At long last, I just had to get a smaller phone.

Because synching with the MINI was still a priority, I went with the Motorola Rapture. The size is great but that's really about where it ends in my opinion. It does seem to synch well with the MINI, which is great. However, it feels kinda cheap (just like some on Phonescoop said it did). It doesn't register a callers name even though they're in the contact list. It doesn't seem to hold an assigned ringtone where they are designated. These things are not the end of the world, but it's well within the 30 day trial and I think it's headed back.

Given my criteria, does anyone have any recommendations for a small clamshell phone that will synch well with the MINI? I have pored over nicknbecca's spreadsheet (which is a fantastic resource!) but I'm just looking for kneejerk reactions / recommendations, especially from those that have some long-time experience with said recommendations. Otherwise, I guess this is just a long-winded whine...

As you were. Thanks.

That seems like about it for flip phones that we know for sure work. The Samsung Alias was reported to work also, but looks like it's seen an update since then.

Also, in completely unrelated news, wetash posted some new iPhone 3GS snap-in part numbers, along with some others. The spreadsheet's been updated with the 3GS numbers and a number for the Blackberry Perl

And more new info from http://www.miniusa.com/bluetooth/

Palm Treo Pro, Palm Pre, Sony W760a, HTC Touch and Touch Pro, HTC SMT5800, HTC XV6900 are now all officially compatible!

There's now full PDF manuals posted for Bluetooth setup, with and without Nav, and example videos too!

I just paired my Motorola Rokr E8 with my 2008 Clubman without a problem. Address book came up no problem. Have only made 3 calls with it so far but they were all fine.

What kind of sound quality is received by your callers? Does anyone have or know someone who has paired a Palm Centro with the Clubman who is having better luck than I with sound quality (tinny)? Is anyone else having this same tinny-sound complaint from those on the receiving end? (Sound quality on my end -- i.e. inside the Clubman -- is awesome, but no one wants to talk to me!) Is it my phone that's the problem or ??

Hey, thanks for the info!
I'm still struggling with making decisions on which phone to purchase. I'm with Verizon, and they haven't been too helpful!
On another topic: Do you have the remote garage door opener in your car? That's another thing I can't sinc.

Thanks again Chris, I'd swear I added the Impression as a non-working phone when you posted, but looks like I missed it. Both are in there now!
