iPhone and Kuda mount installation pics

I have an R56 with navigation, bluetooth but no Ipod adaptor. I really like the iphone functions of the touch screen when I use it as an Ipod and I wanted a mount that could rotate 90 degrees so that I could use the album view and "flip" through music.

The Kuda mount arrived in just 2 days. Very nice. Solid. German-made.

Here are the parts it came with for the mount, base and swivel.

The directions were vague, at best.

Next, I tried my hand at loosening up the panel. It helps to have a credit card and locate the four clips.

Then, my job got a little tricky because my car has navigation. That means the center console layout is different since there's the CD insert and the DVD navigation drive insert. Therefore, the little Kuda mount tabs don't line up!

So, I bent the bottom tab in, stuck the upper tab in place and screwed it into the bracket with the supplied mounting screw.

More photos of installation of Kuda

Unfortunately, I installed the mount too low at first. In the photos, I've tried to show that a low mount may look nice, but as I hold the swivel base with my hand, it's apparent that in 5th gear, I'll bump into the phone mount.

So I placed the kuda mount higher and it works pretty well.

When you mounted it higher up, does it line up properly or did you still have to mod it a little to get it to fit since you have the Nav system?

I just ordered a Proclip since I couldn't find anyone with pictures of this Kuda mount in a Nav equipped car.

Still had to modify slightly (bent the bottom clip in). However, it's very stable.

Just curious why you tried to mount it lower at first. Their website only shows a picture with it mounted up high where you have it now. Does the paper instructions give you an option to mount it lower if you wanted?

That's a nice idea about having it on a swivel so you can flip the iphone and still have it secure. Good work.

Can you still get to the Nav DVD drive with the mount? Is there still room to remove the faceplate to access it?

Well, with respect to the mounting location, I thought it'd be nice and out of the way.

I hadn't tried to remove the faceplate, but I doubt it'll be affected.

It looks like there are wires coming from all 3 sides. Am I seeing things? I know you have the white one in the docking port (presumably to the aux in).

One is the aux in from the headphone jack.
The white one is an aftermarket iPod/iPhone charger to the cigarette lighter.
So, when the white charger isn't pluged in, it doesn't look so "busy".

Nice mount! I'm thinking about doing a similar install but with ProClip instead.

Interesting. I got the Kuda mount I ordered today and it doesn't fit as well as yours shows. Bending the bottom clip out of the way gets it into the dash, but the Kuda hits the face of the DVD player. If I move it out a little to clear that, the glovebox hits it.

It just doesn't fit right. Bending the clips to try to reposition doesn't help.

That and you have to drill a hole to mount it. No mention of that on their website or in the instructions.

Just to update. I let Kuda USA know about this fitment problem with Nav equipped cars. They called up Germany and found out they have a separate model available for Nav equipped cars. Kuda USA was never told there was a different model that's why their website didn't indicate any difference.

If you're planning to get one of these and have Nav keep that in mind. Maybe they'll update it on their website.

Looks like I'll have the updated mount next week. They said it replaces the old Kuda mount as well for non-Nav equipped cars.

I got the ProClip a little while back, and I'm very satisfied. It doesn't look as nice and OEMish as the Kuda, but it was a piece of cake to install and is very sturdy. Granted, I use it with a iPod Nano (Gen 2) so there's not much to be unsturdy with.

Well grasshopper, it was a ProClip question that I found the answer to on their website. I didn't see at first that they have versions for use with and without the secret compartment.
I am now enlightened.
