Sun. Aug 3rd - Bucks County PA - Covered Bridges Tour, Twist
#1
Get your MINIs out to Bucks County and lets take on some of those awesome twisties. We will be checking out 6 or so of the covered bridges in the area and end the afternoon with some chow. This will be a loosely organized event, but we will have maps of the route to hand out. Remember to bring your hand-held radios for the ride. Although we will be going to see the covered bridges, there will also be plenty of spirited driving. I promise!!
THIS IS THE OFFICIAL AGENDA (edited on 7/22/03)
-Meet at the White Rose Cafe in Yardley (see directions below).
-I will be at the cafe by 9:30AM. Join me for breakfast.
-10:30 pre-ride gathering, maps and logistics
-Start motoring 11am.
-We'll ride for a couple of hours, then we'll be stopping at the Homestead General Store in Upper Black Eddy for ice-cream.
-More motoring, more bridges.
-Dinner around 5pm in New Hope at the Triumph Brewing Company, Union Square
WHAT TO BRING:
water, beverages, snacks, 2-way radios, and a camera.
DIRECTIONS TO THE WHITE ROSE CAFE IN YARDLEY PA.
1050 Stony Hill Rd
Yardley Pa. 19067
(215) 968-0100
From I-95 North or South, take exit 49 toward Newtown/Yardley.
Keep left at the fork in the ramp.
Merge onto Newtown Yardley Rd/Route 332 West.
Turn left onto Stony Hill Rd.
HERE is a map to the White Rose Cafe.
Updates and recommendations (edited 7/29/03)
Last Friday, I tried out Faherty's restaurant and was very disappointed. I asked the guys if they would help us find a better place to eat. Scott found a place that will be perfect. It's called the Triumph Brewing Company in New Hope. It's a new place that just opened in Union Square, they'll give us free up-front parking and are happy to have us come there. YAY!!!
I also have some pre-meet recommendations.
Arrive at the White Rose Cafe with a full tank of gas.
Eat a good breakfast (at home or the White Rose). At our mid-route stop at the Homestead we'll only have time to get ice cream, not a full lunch. Bring extra snacks if you need to hold you over till dinner.
We'll have the radios on Channel 7, sub 0.
If you arrive past 11am, you can still pick up a copy of the route at the White Rose Cafe and try and find us.
Before we start motoring, I'll need to get a confirmation (head count) of those that will be joining us for dinner so we can call the Triumph. Dinner will probably be around 5pm.
Cheers,
Kim

I'm very interested, I live in lower Bucks County, but don't know much about where to go as I haven't lived here that long.
Are you getting much interest? Any further details? I just got some two way radios, perfect for these events!

I'll be working on the route with LaughScott. He's got a PDF map of a route that he is using for his motorcycle club that might be suitable for MINIs. I've found that MINIs and motorcycles like the same kinds of roads.
In the next couple of weeks, I'll be heading down to Bucks county to try out his route and I'll scout out a good meeting site and lunch place. Stay tuned.

We'll do our best to be there as well. If any of you were on a similar run last fall, we were the Mini that fell out with brake woes. But it was a real blast until we had to bail out, and everyone said the rest of the day was great. There are a lot of great roads in Bucks County. I suggest anyone who can make it do so.

We'll miss you Donna. Maybe we'll do it again for a fall foliage tour.
Bucks County has done a splendid job of providing maps and routes online for some of the covered bridges. They have directions for a 32 mile/5 bridge route. I will be doing a dry run, perhaps this weekend. If this proves to be MINI friendly, then the meeting place will likely be Tinicum Park on River Rd in Erwinna. There is also a .pdf map of Bucks County to give you a larger sense of where the bridges are.

>>where's Bucks County?
"Bucks County is conveniently located between NYC and Washington DC, 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia".
More to the point, it's the land that is just on the western side of the Delaware River, just over the NJ border and is home to New Hope and Washington Crossing.
koolmini, you are always a welcome addition, but this may not be fast enough for the likes of you. At least one of the MINIs in attendance will still be in the break-in period. If enough MINIs show up, we can split the group in two and let everyone choose to go at koolmini pace or break-in pace.

>>Questions:
>>
>>1. Are Bethlehem and Nazareth, Pa. within Bucks County jurisdiction?
>>2. Additional details re. itinerary, routes, meeting place?
>>
>>Many thanks in advance.
>>
Hope you can make it. Bethlehem is north of Bucks County in Lehigh County. This means it's closer to Va, right?

>>Will plan to be there (that is, unless my kid informs me the day after that she has to be somewhere the day before--and needs a ride... something about teenagers and planning, or lack thereof...)
Let's hope the kid wants to come along. Tell her we're pretty cool, as far as grown-ups go.
