What I hate about my JCW

I think it is time to start this thread...

1. How my head snaps back as the right foot extends
2. How my wife looks at me after No. 1 happens
3. How the tires chirp into third...

Your turn

I hate the fact that it pulls so hard in first that I can't one-hand a right turn from a stop.

All this with LSD.

I hate the fact that I run out of speed limit long before I run out of RPM.

This makes me want to pay the $6,000 it takes to have my dealership install the damn thing. I pick-up my Cooper on Tuesday...However, this post alone makes me want to have the system installed...even if it means I won't be able to pick it up on Tuesday. Can anyone tell me how long it takes the dealership to install the package? It can't be more than one day, I'm guessing.

'05-spec JCW Tuning Kits should run at 14-14.5 hours of labor.

I thought it was quicker than that... in the 8-9 hour range...

Here's a look at the work involved. It's typically scheduled or billed for the number I listed, if you look at prevailing rate of 95-100/hour and your price of $6000 installed. I believe dealers will schedule two days for the work to avoid rushing the install, it's fairly involved. Cold Air Intake and Injectors from '05 spec kit are what bump the work load up. Under 14 hours is certainly possible, but it's dependent on experience of installler. It would be good to talk to a prospective installer and get an average time quote from him. At $6k in parts and labor, they can certainly take a moment to answer your questions.

Cheers,
Matthew Z.

1. I hate how the car that got "Best in show" @ my local MINI club went to the guy with a baby blue JCW MCS.

2. I can't believe there isn't at least some kit for people with a MCSA.

If the prospect of having to wait another couple of days for your car is the only thing holding you back (ie. money is no object)... then just get it, for Christ's sake!

What I hate most...

1. Dropping it into 4th at 70 and completely blowing away those annoying ricers that are always buzzing around my rear bumper.

2. Taking 330 and Boxster owners for a ride and watching their faces betray the fact that they are completely awestruck by my car's acceleration and handling.

3. Knowing that my car has a direct, tanglible link to the Monte-dominating, giant-killing Mini's that John Cooper tuned in the 60s.

Yeah, my Works car pretty much sucks all around. I just hate it.

What I hate most....

...is that I have 400 miles to go before break-in is over and I can enjoy the full experience that is JCW.

(I know, get off the damned computer and get motoring!!!)

Just b/w you and I, I got a pretty good discount off of parts but not installation... find out if your dealer give discounts to Mini club Members and then join... $25 membership and I received many times that in discounts (up to 25% on most dealer parts).

My SO had her own 750 Honda back when we were into motorcyling. She knows the thrill of getting on the throttle. She won't drive "Dingo", at least until the first dent, but she gets a real big smile when I get on it!

Back on topic, I hate I waited so long to buy it.

Pushing a C-5 Corvette around the track at an open track day and watching him make mistakes as he tries desperatly to shake me off his rear bumper.

It really upsets me and makes me want to get rid of it....

My advice to you, Sir, is to cherish your memories of your MCS' first steps. Once the training wheels are off, they'll be but dim memories.

In my case, I hadn't test-driven a MINI at all since early 2003. Pretty sure I tested a MINI, not an S. I've never driven a 2005 S, so the transition is not that abrupt to me, I've always had a 15% pulley and modified ECU, plus big ol' JCW Airbox. Also always had Bridgestone S-03's on my MINI (drop-shipped 'em to Classic MINI before pick-up), so I've never really driven on Run-Flats, except for that one test drive..:-)

Man, I gotta go drive someone's S now!

My wife and i just purchased a Mini Cooper S a month ago but didn't get the JCW kit bc of it being rather pricey. Can we go back to the dealership and purchase the JCW kit and have them install it and be covered under their basic and extended warranties? Also, is the 6k really worth the extra 20+ HP?

I hate the jcw because on the dragon, I kept catching all the motorcycles. I would pull off, wait 5 minutes, take off, catch them again, pull off, repeat.

Yes you can go back to the dealer and have them install the JCW kit. Just call and make an appt. Then talk to parts to make sure they have it in stock or they get it in stock.

Also the hp difference is from 170 to 210. Thats 40hp, a factory warranty and peice of mind.

Ok the conversation for aftermarket is that for $6k you can go for so much more hp but you don't get those last 2 points I mentions. Factory warranty and peice of mind.

I hate the fact that when you are actually able to USE all of the extra ability the JCW upgrade(s) give(s) you, the other MINI drivers instantly have an excuse! Had this experience (via FRS) after I pulled away from a group on the Dragon on Sunday, after the pickup/SUV holding us all back pulled over. I guess I can't talk, I might be saying the same thing in their situation.

Hey, it takes skill to truly take full advantage of the extra ability too, ya know! Anyone can drive a fast car slow.

Besides, the tuning kit is only of marginal help on the Dragon, too many turns... the brakes and suspension, on the other hand...

I hate having to brake hard at the end of the on-ramp to merge with traffic...
