Latka, where are you?

Got a call out of the blue this afternoon from Latka. It was great hearing from him and he is doing well. He's even planning to get back into Solo II! We shot the sh*t for a few minutes and found out he's in the market for a street/strip vehicle, preferable a hatchback! He also said he is selling two of his classic Minis! The red/white one with the UJ on the roof and his '64 Mini Cooper S is also for sale.

This is correct. I'll need to lob some pictures up on the 'net so I can post 'em here... but we're selling our 1966 Austin Mini Cooper S and the 1965 (with '71 body) Austin Mini. The '65/71 car is the one you've seen if you've seen me in a Mini. Red / white with a Union Jack on the roof.

Postings coming in a few days (hopefully!). I've got a job change comin up and 40 billion things goin on...but I need to get these two cars sold.

I'm in the market for a VW GTI (83, 84... 91, 92 (16v), or 95, 96). Also maybe lookin for a '90 - 95 MR2 Turbo. Somethin relatively small but fast 'n fun.

Hmm... Dodge Omni GLHS? I know there's at least one on the island.

Oops! My bad. I guess it was a Freudian slip about the '64 S being for sale.

As for a car, how's about a Scirocco or a Corrado VR6. The G60 Corrados are good too and you can really tune the Kompressor! What about a BMW? The E30 318is and the 325is are great cars for daily driving and perfect for Solo II.

I'd love to get a Schi*rocket...I mean Scirrcco - but I don't fit in 'em. Never tried a Corrado. Might have to check that out.

A BMW? As much as I have loved BMWs I decided that I would never again own a product that had anything to do with BMW or MINI after our experience. :(

All sorts of car ideas started popping in my head once I decided I'd get something other than a GTI. I'd still love one, but I'm open to other ideas.

Don't say that! Put it this way. The E30 is out of warranty so you won't have to deal with the dealershit in any manner. It's a great DIY car and I have hookups for parts on the mainland!

Solved my "need a decently fun car" delema... picking up a 1987 Porsche 924S tomorrow. Got a decent deal on it, and it only has 39K miles.

Minis going up for sale this week.

You do know that P cars are extremely expen$ive to maintain. My friend is selling his 944 turbo and it is a SWEET car! He just replaced the head gasket and some other parts and it cost him $2k! That is roughly the same motor that is in the 924. Before you purchase the car, check some P Car boards like Rennlist.

Oh yeah, some mechanics don't like working on the 924/944s. For some reason they actually prefer to work on the 911/930.

Well, I'm certainly not going to go through life driving a Toyota Tercel just cause it's cheap to maintain.

The 924 is probably going to be a 2 year car for me until I can get my 911. And finally get the '64 Cooper S back on the road.

Hey Beasty... I re-read what I last posted and it sounded kinda snotty. I totally didn't mean it like that! What I meant was that, yeah...I know that the P car is going to cost more than most things to maintain, but that's ok. It's got good handling, and that's what I am lookin for right now. The engine is a bit anemic, but it'll do for a couple 'o years. I hope to "move up" to an early 80s 911 in that time anyway.

At least this will move me from H Stock up to E Stock for Pro Solo II. I get to fight with stock Miatas now... which just sounds kinda sad even saying that. The Miata is a good little car - just not built for Grape Ape people like myself.

Grape Ape! It's deja vu time as dakinemini sent me an e-mail on Grape Ape today!

As for being snotty, it's okay as I can kick your butt anytime. First mod for the 924 would be a chip. Autothority is pretty good at Porsche tuning.

In the front of the Performance Products (www.performanceproducts.com) catalog that I got with the car there's a company called "Powerchip". They have a chip listed for the 2.5L 944, so I'm not sure if that would work with the 2.5L 924S I have. I mean hell...it's the same motor and all, so I would assume that the ECUs are the same.
