Although the Countrymans body style (and overall design) in my opinion was perhaps the most radically changed from the classic styling, so what?? You want a Mini that raised some eyebrows? Check out the Austin Mini Moke... Motor on, my friend, and keep the faith, you will receive waves from your MINI bretheren!
Cheers!
I would love a Moke! I saw one on eBay and I fell in love.

I was super-psyched yesterday. As I was driving along the Pacific Coast Highway, I got LOTS of waves and peace signs from other MINI peeps. Very cool!

BTW, motorers in Northern California may want to cruise the PCH and check out the huge waves from the King Tide! Pretty cool. I posted some pics: http://goo.gl/qr01T

Rarely, up in the great white north,

Usually too dark and gray for anyone to see if your waving or not.

As soon as I pulled off the lot in my MINI today someone waved. It was a great feeling to be part of a friendly community and to happily wave back! I encourage waving!!!

My husband and I like to mess with one another. When we're in my mini, and he's driving I always yell "Jeep Wave!!" when a jeep drives by. 50/100 he falls for it. He's getting good.

When we're in the Jeep, he yells "Mini Wave!!" We won't talk about how many times I fall for it...lol.

It seems to me that drivers of nontraditional Mini's neglect to wave more often than traditional Mini body styles. As for me, I always wave, and many people in Iowa wave back.

And what is a non traditional MINI?

I always wave when I see other MINIs but I don't get a lot of waves back. I guess my CMS qualifies as non traditional so I don't get waves.

Perhaps in other cases, it's more so that a lot of new MINI owners don't know about the wave?

...hubs has caught a few times when I'm having too much fun driving and miss another MINI's wave. Luckily he waved for me when he's along for the ride. Maybe that's the more common problem among us?

Don't know if anyone is still watching this thread, but, since they made it illegal to use hand held cell phones in Ontario, more people are on them than ever. That's why most MINI drivers don't wave back here. If they did they'd have both hands of the wheel.
I still will wave though (I don't own a cell phone).

Hey, it's not the cell phone that causes me problems since my MINI has Bluetooth standard. It's the Jumbo Burger in one hand and the 64 oz soda that won't fit in my MINI cup holder in the other that give me the most difficulty. I usually manipulate the steering wheel with my knees, transfer the burger to my mouth and wave with my free hand. If I am at the point of needing to change gears, I just rev ole Rupert all the way to the redline and keep it there until I've finished my burger.

I'm in Sacramento and I get more waves than not! It is awesome when I catch people off guard and then they go into a big smile along with a big wave when they finally realize I'm waving or giving them the peace sign.

About a month ago after work heading south on I5 I pass by a Clubman S and I waved as I passed. I weave in and out of traffic, and he follows and when he eventually passes me and give me a rad sign! Made my day

And to answer the OP, yes. We get waves quite frequently, as well as high beam flashes and honks. Nobody does that in a Focus, really. Except when the new generation was an uncommon sight, but now nobody who has one cares. I think Mini people around here tend to be a bit more fun people on average.
