General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
You must live in my neckmof the woods. Carroll, Frederick County!
Nah, I'm in PG county. Though i have seen more minis here in recent years, they're more common in the Rockville area, which is where i work. Rockville is chock full of Minis!
Humm, I wonder: Maryland, Beltway... Could you be one of my "five"?
It's possible. I do often see some of the same cars, depending on when i start my commute. Do you drive a Mini currently? What does it look like? If i see you, I'll be sure to send a hearty sunroof wave your way.
People who drive here in Los Angeles are generally aggressive and rude especially during rush hour traffic. Sounds horrible and jaded but I usually wave to mini drivers who's mini are tricked out or JCW's cause they seem to be real Mini enthusiast and have love for their car.
But I will wave back to any Mini driver if they initiated.

Not quite yet, see my signature line... Until Dover makes it across the pond I'm still living in Minivan hell.

Cool. I wasn't sure if you were replacing a Mini or getting your first one. Well, you probably only have a few weeks left until you meet Dover, so hang in there
We just got our first mini a couple wks ago, I thought people would wave like jeep people do but...they don't. I'm starting to feel kinda silly waving and only getting blank stares in return.

I say keep waving. It will become a thing again. We just got rid of our wrangler not too long ago and Jeep people don't seem to wave as much anymore either. I just chock it up to people being stuck up.
I have seen a few MINIs here and there, and it seems to me that if i wave the other driver usually gives a little smile like, oh yeah i'm in a MINI too, then waves.
Well, I've actually been to every state of the union except Alaska...just not in the MINI. Hubby doesn't like to drive that far in it. Fits my back just fine, but not his.
(P.S. Never saw Colorado, Illinois, and Missouri referred to as "South" or "East!")
I have been a mini owner since 2006 and it seems to me the people who purchased minis early on do wave at least here in the St. Louis Area, but the younger"nouveau" drivers can't be bothered. Just an observation.
It varies drastically. I can see no Minis for days, then see 10 or more in a day. I saw about 5 on the way to work yesterday, 2 on the run to lunch, and 4 on the way back. Definitely one of the less common Mini-spotting days. Save for the 2 at lunch, none waved, but then again no one waves on the Beltway.
Not true! Some of us Beltway warriors do indeed. I wave at every MINI I see and most of the time, I actually get waves back. If I see you, you'll get one from me for sure!
Well, aren't we being snooty here! Just remember, sir, that you were a new MINI owner once. I treat all MINI owners the same and think you should as well. After all, it is kinda of an exclusive club. But to each his own.
If I wave at all I only wave to first gens because Mini is getting deluted with non Mini people a.k.a posers that only got a Mini because its cute or is good on fuel.
No offense to your post, and I don't know if you meant it to come off as such, but I've noticed owners of gen 1 minis feel like they have a sense of entitlement over gen 2 owners. I mean its all good to be proud of your car, but we're all part of the MINI community no matter what gen or model we drive. I'll wave at any MINI that comes my way, whether its gen 1, 2, countryman, clubman, etc. If they don't wave back no biggie to me, can't rain on my parade! If I'm in my MINI you can bet its the best part of my day
Sometimes I get a wave and I either wave or flash lights. If they don't respond its no big deal. You never know if they are busy with phone, not paying attention due many factors and so on. For example when I'm in the zone and listening to music I don't look around so I miss people.
