Do Mini people still wave at each other??
So I'm in my first Mini, although I've admired them from afar for many years. My daughter thinks its cool that I wave at the mini owners I see. Some wave back, some don't notice, but it makes me feel good and it gets a grin out of my 15yr old so I plan to keep on waving. Besides, who knows when that mini owner might be needing a nice gesture on a rotten day.

Last week, I drove Winnie over 2,000 miles, from San Diego up to Boise, Idaho and back. Only saw MINIs in Salt Lake City and in Boise, and a vast MINI-less emptiness in between. But the MINI owners in those cities cheerfully waved if they saw me waving. Around home, there are so many that no one much bothers. The best waving days I have had, were around twisties on the weekends. Fellow enthusiasts that were relishing their MINIs abilities were happy to wave. And I *always* wave if I see another MINI soon enough.
I sure hope MINIs around the KC area still wave. I'll hopefully be cruisin' in a MINI in the next couple of months. I pass so many on my commute to and from school so I will probably be doing a lot of waving. :]
I decided to undertake a little project - so for the last 6 weeks I've waived at every Mini I've seen in the Seattle area (Seattle, Bellevue, Snohomish, Everett, Lynnwood, Edmonds, Monroe), no matter what type of Mini it is, and I haven't had a single wave back!! Maybe its just the Puget Sound Area where people no longer bother to wave?!

Keep in mind that drivers who have Gen 2 cars with bi-xenons will need to have their headlights on already, because flashing will activate the igniters and leveling mechanisms, and that takes a few seconds (and adds wear and tear to the system). If you flash lights that are already on, you're just triggering a quick shutter, which doesn't cause problems.
It depends on the traffic. As someone else said, I might be zipping in and out of traffic in true MINI style and it would be foolhardy to take one hand off the steering wheel. But if I see another MINI at a stoplight and catch 'em looking my way, sure, I'll wave and give 'em a big grin. Everybody needs a smile these days.

I've found that drivers of MINIs with special graphics, mods, optional mirror caps, etc., are the most likely to respond to waves or flashes. Plain "Justas" are probably purchased as commuter cars. We don't see many of them at our club meetings, either.
(No offense intended toward Cooper drivers. Note the adjective "plain.")

Wave as if nobody's watching! I wave often and notice waves back often. I also wave to Minis while I'm riding my motorcycle and haven't noticed any waves back (but my eyes don't linger when I'm riding the bike). just got a moped and an awful lot of people wave to me but I'm holding on.

Saw two minis today. One this morning....I stuck my hand out the partially open window and waggled my fingers. Couldn't tell if there was a response through the tinted windows. After work...same intersection. I wave. Did he wave back? He's looking towards me...I wave a little more emphatically....he's looking....looking....light changes, I go through the intersection and give a little honk and goofy wave .... He's just looking....I never could tell if he waved. He may have just been trying to figure out who the nutty lady was....
Or maybe so entranced by my Oliver that all he could do was stare.....

I got three so far! I just recently became an MCS owner so I was surprised to see the community like this.
The first time I was waved at, I was with my friend on the Florida Turnpike going through the cash lane toll booth. I hear honking and looked over and this dude was just waving so enthusiastically, I just had to smile and wave back. It was pretty awesome.
I got two waves on base today in ND. Strange since I was not expecting it at all. I waved, of course.

It's super easy and much safer to lift two fingers off your steering wheel. It's also a great way to reduce the embarrassment factor when you don't get any acknowledgement back

And my soon-to-be-adopted-home-state-I hope--Arkansas--is very MINI friendly, too!
