Do Mini people still wave at each other??
I was going to wave to a clubman, but it would of been mean. Poor girl had just gotten stopped by a cop. need to slow down on Ceder lane, Columbia MD.
I wave all the time, but JP "Blue" and I do not get one back.

I tend to wave when I get the chance, though most MINIs I encounter on the freeway, so don't generally have the time there and everyone's focused on traffic. Haven't gotten any return waves in the last 6 months... Used to get waves back all the time from other Miata owners when I was driving a Miata - so I know I can't be THAT off-putting (at least, not at a distance)!
Think maybe it's just easier to be seen waving with a convertible or on a motorcycle than in a MINI.

I actually did not wave as much until I went to the Dragon last year. You pass a MINI every few minutes and everyone is enthusiastically waving. Really makes you feel good about being part of the MINI family and I have been waving at all MINIs since.
Growing up in the sixties and seventies, and driving English cars (Minis, Austin Healeys, etc.) it was very common to wave at fellow sport car enthusiasts. Today, forget it. The feeling seems to be gone. Oh I try waving and maybe a quick flash of the brights, but it seems to fall on blind eyes. Very few drivers respond. Too busy with the cell phone or just plain not interested. It's a different generation.
My winter ride is a 2002 Jeep Wrangler (the third one in 25 years) and they also have a "waving" fraternity..although it is a bit more subtle, just a kind of finger wagging off the steering wheel, with no noticeable smile!
Not too many other car makes and models have the "wave"...tell me if you know of others...I just have to remember which car I am driving so I don't look like an idiot in a Jeep waving at a mini! lol

Even motorcyclists can be picky....I've seen it where cruiser-types are too stuck up to wave at crotch rockets!
I've been doing the waving thing since I got my mini a couple of months ago, and have only gotten the wave back 1 time out of 20 so far. When it did happen, it was pretty cool.
I just moved from NY to SF and drove my mini cross country (that was awesome). In NY (and from what I could tell, most of the country along I-80) I didn't see many minis so I was always excited to see another one. In SF, minis are EVERYWHERE. in my new neighborhood, I see one (or two or three) parked on every other block. On my short drive to work (13 miles), I pass about 6 on average each way. It's obvious by looks of the drivers' faces that these mini owners don't care that they're driving a mini. They might as well be driving a Yaris or a Fit. Most of them probably bought one because it was cute and trendy, with no idea about what makes them special under the paint.
Of course these people have the right to buy whatever they can afford. I just wish they weren't representative of mini drivers in the bay area. I'm used to communities where recognition of driving passion was obvious (Porsche 911, BMW M-series), so it's a bit weird when it's no so obvious. I gave the thumbs up (rolled down window) to a JCW convertible I passed on the way to work earlier this week. I was excited because it was the first JCW I've seen on the road (besides my own). Sadly, my excitement was not shared by the other driver (who apparently works for Pixar according to her license plate bracket).
my two pennies.

I wave at small children who wave at me.
I return a wave to any MINI driver that waves at me.
I don't wave to MINIs with dark tinted windows where I cannot even see a person.
I don't generally wave on the freeway since I should be paying attention to the road.
I sometimes wave at strangers in a MINI when in residential areas.
I would always wave at a MINI event.
Don't be like others. Wave when you can.

Leaving the city(D.C.) I typically see at least one or two, I wave, but hardly get a response in the city. I am also not sure if it is just people into the MINI culture, or a generational thing. I have gotten a few mean mugs from some of the "older" folks I wave to.
The MINI waving is dead down here. When we take my wife's Wrangler Unlimited out, I'm amazed at the camaraderie that Jeep owners have. And the motorcyclist wave to each other regardless of what type of build they own.
I used to wave all the time but out in the city people seem to think I'm a freak for it. Still wave on my 25 mile non-highway commute though! I find the farther I get from the city, the more people wave
While on a caravan for a funeral, owner of a clubman S waved at me going the opposite direction, i gave him a peace sign. Happened just north of Huntley rd. in Huntley Illinois.
Can someone start an "Official Wave Thread"? Much like a sighted thread.

Do Mini people still wave at each other??
I do. And here's the strange part. I'm from the Northeast, and when I was up there, I got waves all the time. Now I live in VA, and I get almost none. And they say the we "Northerners" are uptight... Go figure (?)
haha, this is so funny.
Here in the UK it's a similar thing with the classic Mini, most of us wave. But with so many MINIs, and most people not into the Mini culture - you'd end up looking stupid if you waved to everyone in a MINI.
But I understand what it must be like; I went to Australia earlier this year and there are hardly any MINIs at all, so yes I did wave to other MINI drivers while in my loaner Cooper D - the Mini spirit lives on!
Keep up the waving!
