Do Mini people still wave at each other??
I would happily wave if I even got a look from most other MINI owners. I have a 110 mile round trip commute every day and easily see 6-10 other MINI's and I'm lucky if I even get a glance from most of them.
[quote=Ministrater;3571983][QUOTE=daffodildeb;3567414]Rather than stop waving...
If you have Xenon headlights...
Don't get me wrong Epeel and Daffodil. You haven't lost me yet. I still wave at someone, now that I think about it, almost every day. I guess the small percentage of returns are what make me think twice. I'll just think of it as a kind of initiation to the club!
The headlight flash is a good thought. I've often thought there should be a mod for the headlights so you can "wink" at people.
I'll keep motoring and waving for sure.
If your Bi-Xenons are already on, there's no harm in flashing (it's a simple shutter mechanism). The problem is when your lights are off--not only do your igniters have to do their things, but also the levelers have to go up and down. That's an awful lot of wear and tear for not a whole lot of payoff, and if you flash more than once, as most people do, it just magnifies the wear and tear. PLUS, it takes time, and you're past the flashee by the time it all gets done.
On the other hand, if you drive with lights on all the time, as I generally do, you're likely to have fewer people pull out in front of you, at least on the highway (I live out in the country). Speed and distance of small cars, such as MINIs, seem to be hard for people who drive Stupid Useless Vehicles and pick-em-ups to estimate. At least, that's my guess. My car is bright red, so on a nice sunshiny day, there's really no excuse for someone to pull out in front of me, right? And yet it happens, all the time, UNLESS I have lights on. I think it has something to do with the "hard" color of the Xenons.
That's my theory, anyway, and I'm stickin' to it. I don't use daylight running lights, so I can't compare with them. I use full-on headlights.
As an aside, I used to have a SAAB Sonett, back in the early 70's. It was an ugly gold color (on an ugly-shaped car), and I used to have people pull out all the time on a certain highway near my home. (We joked about the intelligence of people on that road, as it directly led to a particularly unattractive Midwest backwater town.) A couple of years after I got the car, it was rear ended and pushed into the car in front of me. Lots of damage, requiring a full paint job. I picked a bright orange...and the problem with the people from Valley Park went away...

Hey NinjaTurtle, how are ya?!
I totally wave! I wave at every Mini driver I see! I've been known to honk and wave to make SURE they see me. Usually I get a wave back.
Edit: Occasionally I'll get a Mini driver who looks at me funny before looking away without a wave. Is it a bad thing that I make a point of deliberately blowing past them?

I just posted this on the "Those who FINALLY got their 2012 support group" thread.
It seems that it may be appreciated here too.
I feel like I'm one of the Little Rascals.
I'm a member in good standing of the Non-Wavers Haters Club.
Everyone raise your right hand . .
No, your
other right hand. . . I, Pumpkinhead (all repeat)…Member in good standing of the MINI Cooper Non-Waver Haters Club (all repeat)…do solemnly swear to be a real waving MINI Cooper and hate Non-Wavers and not play with them or talk to them unless I have to. And especially: never fall in love. And if I do, may I die slowly and painfully and suffer for hours or until I scream bloody murder. (all try to repeat)

Love it
sounds about right.
I got my first un-initiated wave (they spotted me first) from a no-stripe red MINI motorist in Alpharetta earlier this week.

The MINI wave!
There are a ton of MINI's in the Boulder, Longmont, North Denver area of Colorado. I usually flash a peace sign and usually get one back. It's a bit cooler than a frantic wave so people are more apt to reply!
Thought I would post in here since I saw three different R50s on my way to a local cruise in tonight. I waved at all of them, and every single driver (and one passenger) smiled and enthusiastically waved back.
I flashed my lights at a blue mini on the way home. And my wife said "did you just flash your lights again cus you saw another mini? LAME!" and continued dancing in her seat to Brad Paisley.
She's dancing in her seat to Brad Paisley, and I'm the lame one... This is my life.

^^ lol
My husband and I were driving in my MINI last night. He saw another lady waiting at a red light as we took our right, passing by her. He waved, and she waved back with a weird look on her face lol
Last week, we were in his MINI, and a lady in a Countryman on the other side of the road, going the other direction, happily waved at us. I didn't see her in time to return to gesture :(

I've been riding motorcycles for some time now, and I always wave at other riders, and most wave back. I just love the fact that I now drive a car with such an enthusiastic following that the same gestures can be considered "normal."
Sadly, We don't receive too many waves in our area of the SFO Bay Area because most people bought them as a small commuter car and not because they absolutely love and appreciate a MINI.
My mom and I will begin road tripping around the USA in the next couple of months, so it will be interesting to see if we get waves in other parts of the country! (I always wave or peace sign or Hawaiian Hang Loose).

Me
I'm a new MCSC owner for about a week in beantown and have been getting a lot of wave backs. I absolutely love it! Being a newbie, I think I'm a bit overly excited when I see a fellow owner. Hope I didn't freak anyone out.
Love it!
I know how you feel about your MINI.
I fell head over heels when I bought my 2001 Wrangler.
It was hard to trade Jeep in for my Clubman. Now I'm so glad that I did.
These cars are truly fun to drive and the most comfortable that I've owned.
Keep waving and you'll get waves back by owners that feel the same way that we do!
Motor on!
