Paddles were deleted on all US build Coopers after around the first part of 2009. Yes the S models still have them.

The MC apparently now does not have paddle shifters. I think some prior model years may have had them. You can do just as well shifting the lever like a manual transmission. Search around, it may be possible to add them to your car. I do not know if they are all prewired.

You are not missing much. The paddles are attached to the steering wheel (turn with the wheel) and not to the stalk. It makes them difficult to shift when turning. I use the stick.

I believe the paddle shifters only come with the S models. Otherwise, yes, you just move your selector over and gently push up or down.

Well, i remember renting an '09 MC a few months ago, and it had the paddle shifters. It doesn't really bother me much anyway, since i kept forgetting to shift. lol

It doesn't any more. I can't remember the production date they went away, but I'm sure someone will pipe in with it.

Paddle shifters were dropped on MCs for the 2010 model year, only remaining on the MCS.

But you're not missing much really. Shift time is slower than a shift at the stick, and like it was said earlier kinda a pain to use in a turn.

I have paddles on my '10 MCS, and it was cool for a little bit....but I just use the stick now when I'm in a shifting mode. About the only time I use a paddle anymore, for the most part, is when I'm in "D" mode, and I want to use engine back pressure to slow instead of the brakes....I'll down shift using the paddles.

Perhaps for you, but quite the opposite for me and many others here. I find it quite easy to shift gears in the twisties or track using the paddles while turning the car.

both hands on the wheel = total and complete control

of course, your results may vary

It was effective with post-January 2009 builds. therefore, some 09 models have them, some don't, and it was only in the US. Canadian Coopers, I believe, still have them

I honestly don't like the paddles. My MC doesn't have them but the Clubman loaner I had a few weeks ago did and I quickly got fed up with them. I rest my hands on the spokes and the paddles got in my way.

Count me in. 2009 MCSa, hopefully going Stage 1 soon. I love being able to calmly cruise in awful traffic and then push the lever over, press the sport button, and take off like hell when necessary...

Chelsealynn: Sounds like you may need a new battery - is yours original? - or have some other electrical fault

Our new-to-us 2003 Justacooper has the CVT. And with only 40k miles and a fresh fluid change I'm hoping it lasts a good while!

madmike007 did you change the head on your car? I was told the JCW engines where not avaiable on 05 & 06's with automatics.

Yes, I have the JCW head. All JCW upgrades were added after delivery. All other mods from the desire for more power. You look like you have some powerful upgrades there yourself. Nice MINI!

The kit was available, but not in the US (and Canada) because it (just barely) wouldn't pass California emissions. There's plenty of R53 JCW Automatics floating around in the UK and Europe. I've been building up my own JCW equivalent with the help of my friendly dealer - I'm just missing the head now.
