Official Automatic Transmission Owners' Club
Anybody have issues using less than premium grade gas? I've had my 2010 Mini Clubman (not S) for two weeks now and am considering putting medium or regular gas in her. Currently getting 36+mpg ...thoughts?! And she's an Automatic, too. Manuel recommends premium, but says lower grade can be used.
Hi there Giggles,
Before you put regular grade in your tank, please take a minute and try to research this site. I know I have seen lots of posts/threads on this topic. Sorry I don't have a link handy, but I am sure you will find something using the general search function.
I'm sorry for being a pragmatist but all we are talking about between regular and premium is usually 10 cents per gallon. At a full tank that's only $1.30; is it worth potentially compromising your baby for that? I personally have no problem with premium because I get the extra power, and it runs cleaner -- but that's just me.

+1!
Thanks!!
Thanks for putting it in perspective for me. You are right, its simply NOT worth taking the risk with regular. Ill just shop around for better prices on premium..Happy Mini-ing!!
2006 MCSa checking in.
If any here need help on flushing the ATF, here's a good thread:

First two cheapest mods with biggest bang are the WayMotorWorks Blow off valve, and the NM Torque Arm Inserts. They provide the power to the wheels and improve response. They don't change HP.
Next, if you want to change HP, a Defenders Of Speed CAI would add around 10+ hp for about $320. All still maintaining warranty.

The biggest bang for the buck are the same mods you would do for a manual MINI - Front-Mounted Intercooler and a tune.
Several manufacturers make quality FMICs - I have the new Helix unit and it's great, but there are other quality ones out there.
Pro tuners for the MINI still aren't common: Way Motor Works, RMW, ABF Techdivision, Mynes, and probably a couple of others who I can't remember at the moment. You can also buy the AccessPort from Alta which comes with some very quality canned tunes that will put a lot of oomph in your ride. Some of the tuners travel and do tunes around the country. If you want a pro tune, I suggest you talk to at least two tuners, ask lots of questions, and go with who will work best for you.
Neither of the two options mentioned above are cheap, however. Expect to pay $650-$800 or so for the FMIC, and about the same for the tune (differs depending on the tuners and if there is a group buy going on).

All very nice suggestions but Achilles is running a 2011. There are no tunes yet available. So my point was to get the ones that he can get now and the ones you mentioned (expensive as you stated) later when they become available. The new N18 engine has everyone behind in development for tunes. The cheaper suggestions were to improve performance while waiting.

I'm actually talking about the WMW Performance BOV for about $65; easy to install (you may want the Forge if you intend to track). I'm in the same boat as you as I own an '11 MCS and am waiting on the "real" mods. However, in the meantime I feel the "need" to mod with something, and these mods make the most sense while waiting.
I am toying with the JCW Tuning Kit (air intake, SS exhaust, and upgraded map with + 15 HP) vs. the ALTA AP with maybe a DoS intake, fortunately, I don't need to make a snap decision right now. I know the BYO is cheaper and more HP but butts up against the warranty. On the flip side, if I ever sell my BeBop (dash the thought) a JCW badge may be better. I am in the decision process now and not sure what I want to do????

Probably right -- more HP, less noise (unless wanted) AND cheaper. I guess if I add the DoS CAI, it would be awesome. Then I could get the exhaust later if I wanted.
then im stumped. try searching yotube for a good sound or talk to the alta guys and see wut they can do. or just ask around the forums. i know somebody in here will have something to suggest
did my first flush and refill today in the garage. everything was pretty straight forward until it came time to replace the fluid i drained out. had a nice 1 quart atf slick under my car as the funnel didnt sit right and i lost it all on the floor
after that the tranny shifts much smoother. going to to another one weds morning. i got 2 quarts out this morning.
