Not quite, but it could get you into overboost. As ALTA has described overboost, it is the time where the car builds boost pressure but the ECU has waited a few second before it dumps any excess pressure. The extra detent on the pedal is a... yes I want to downshift and go like crazy position.

can I join the automatic club? I got my Clubby automatic because it was the color I wanted and had the other options I wanted. I drive in sport mode all the time and really like it. Before I got my Clubby, i drove stick for about 10 years. I missed it at first, but now I am fine, as long as I remember the press the sport mode button.

I have been thinking of trying steptronic, but I am a little afraid of breaking something. Does anyone use it alot? What are your thoughts?

thanks!

no paddle shifters?

I have been reading a lot of posts referring to the paddle shifters. I don't have them.. Would anyone know why? My Clubby is a 2010 non-S.

thanks!

MINI stopped paddles for the Cooper as of 2010 - only turbo (S) models have them. I use the shifter for changing gears and having fun.

Just slap it into manual mode and go at it. The nice thing is you don't need to move off the gas when shifting. If you've done a stick then you already have a feel for the rpms needed for shifting -- pull back shifts up, press forward and downshift. Nice thing with the Aisin transmissions is that it won't let you screw up with over revs or lug on slow speeds -- it senses this within the upper and lower extreme rpm ranges. In between, have a blast and motor on.

Gahh too much to read...
Anyone have any idea or figures of how much power we can safely run through the Asin 6 speed from the R56?

I have been talking with the ABF guys about upgrading to their custom turbo and downpipe/catback. Although they said that the upgrade will easily yield over 300HP (together with my other mods), the most they think they would want to do to an Auto (without transmission mods) is 260-270HP. I can't recall what they said about torque, but you could always call them and ask (just google ABF Techdivision).

I'd like to add my 2008 MCS automatic w/JCW kit, if you're still counting! It's Laser blue with white bonnet stripes, white roof, checkered mirrors, and a union Jack boot tag above the tailpipe tips. So far, I love it! It's my first Mini. It's also my first front wheel drive car....and wow that TorqueSteer really surprised me.

All of the other vehicles I've owned have been rear wheel drive with manual transmissions...with that said, I am very happy with the steptronic!

I love my steptronic, still only with base MCS. I can't wait until the new JCW tuning kit comes out for the 2011 models!! Then I will understand the wow factor better. Just don't know when the kit will be available but I will get it when it is.

hey there fun_driver,

I've been trying the steptronic for about 4 days now and I think I like it! I like controlling the rpm. I can run the engine at lower rpms (quieter) when I'm coasting on the highway, or I can rev it for a little boost for passing when I need it! thanks!

An Ode to the Automatic

Hi all.... Sorry; I've been rather remiss in keeping the MINI AuTOs roster up-to-date; I've been a little preoccupied as my wife recovers from a double lung transplant. If someone (Sequence?) wouldn't mind picking up wherever I left off, I'd very much appreciate it.

Meanwhile, I'm sure many of you have already seen Gabe's "An Ode to the Automatic" over at MotoringFile; if not, be sure to check it out.

Motor on!

TimL,
Hope your wife's transplant goes without a hitch. I had a kidney transplant 12.5 years ago -- feel like new again. Meds are tough to remember. Best to your wife. Godspeed.

2011 JCW Tuning Kit

Does anyone know when the 2011 JCW Tuning Kit will be available? As much as I like the kick out of my 2011 MCSa, a little more oomph wouldn't hurt. I heard it's coming but no one here knows when.

George...it's TimL's Wife who has had the Double Lung Transplant, not me.

Since I drive daily to from and for work (Portland / Vancouver) in my 08 justa. I use my shifting hand to hold my thermal coffee cup - could still use the paddles, if I wanted too with my left hand. Sometimes though, just use the shifter. Feels more natural.

yes, it was sincerely meant for you, RJKimbell . . . And I agree that TimL and his Wife need all the support they can get. Hopefully all the NAM MINI family members find peace and health in their lives soon.

Anybody have issues using less than premium grade gas? I've had my 2010 Mini Clubman (not S) for two weeks now and am considering putting medium or regular gas in her. Currently getting 36+mpg ...thoughts?! And she's an Automatic, too. Manuel recommends premium, but says lower grade can be used.
