UPDATE!!!!
Transmission fixed. After extensive troubleshooting I found the output rotation speed sensor was bad. After removing it, I examined the actual wiring and noticed that protective sheathing of the wiring was split exposing all the internal wiring. Of course the copper was exposed and some of it was corroded. I then ordered the new sensor. Now installed the Cooper is ready for inspection and registration.

anyone running a Scangauge II for their transmission temp? i have it monitoring and was wondering if its normal that it goes up to like 6k-7k during acceleration, and it drops back down to the low hundreds when idling.
