It is interesting that the guy notes the same thing you did. The twist-move-stand-on-your-head etc to get the engine mount out worked on a prior job, but not on the MINI featured in the video. So, he does give an idea of loosening the headlight but not removing it that worked.
On a side note - I am a huge fan of the PowerFlex bushing for the lower engine mount. It has been in a while now and can find no downside to it. The improvement to drive ability is well worth and there may well be a benefit of improving the life of the upper engine mount.
Glad you posted this. Good video. And it illustrates *exactly* what I ran into (no pun intended) with the headlight being in the way. That one contact point is what I couldn't sort, so I yanked the headlight.
His workaround to get some wiggle room by removing 2 of the headlight mount anchor points is pretty smart -- that hadn't occurred to me.
Also glad you posted because you reminded me to get on "Powerflexing" my lower engine mount bushing. Can't explain it exactly but something about a changing feel of the car is telling me I need to get on that -- and I don't want my upper mount, having itself been replaced and with Powerflex inserts installed at the time, to weather any more stress than it has to.
There is a post on some thread that I was about the lower mount where a guy used a 2 prong pulley puller to push the original rubber bushing out of the dog bone. It was brilliantly simple. I beat and cut and pried for quite a while before I got it out. Then his post popped up. A real Homer Simpson moment for me… DOH! If you don’t have a puller, get one. Maybe add some spray lubricant in between the rubber and metal to help. Should be easy.
