It is interesting that the guy notes the same thing you did. The twist-move-stand-on-your-head etc to get the engine mount out worked on a prior job, but not on the MINI featured in the video. So, he does give an idea of loosening the headlight but not removing it that worked.
On a side note - I am a huge fan of the PowerFlex bushing for the lower engine mount. It has been in a while now and can find no downside to it. The improvement to drive ability is well worth and there may well be a benefit of improving the life of the upper engine mount.
Glad you posted this. Good video. And it illustrates *exactly* what I ran into (no pun intended) with the headlight being in the way. That one contact point is what I couldn't sort, so I yanked the headlight.
His workaround to get some wiggle room by removing 2 of the headlight mount anchor points is pretty smart -- that hadn't occurred to me.
Also glad you posted because you reminded me to get on "Powerflexing" my lower engine mount bushing. Can't explain it exactly but something about a changing feel of the car is telling me I need to get on that -- and I don't want my upper mount, having itself been replaced and with Powerflex inserts installed at the time, to weather any more stress than it has to.
There is a post on some thread that I was about the lower mount where a guy used a 2 prong pulley puller to push the original rubber bushing out of the dog bone. It was brilliantly simple. I beat and cut and pried for quite a while before I got it out. Then his post popped up. A real Homer Simpson moment for me… DOH! If you don’t have a puller, get one. Maybe add some spray lubricant in between the rubber and metal to help. Should be easy.
Towards the beginning of this thread (and elsewhere) you’ll see pictures of broken vs not. Yours looks to be broken….
I would highly suggest that when this is being replaced that you also modify the lower engine mount with the PowerFlex bushing to cut down on the rotation of the engine when it is under load. Here is my post (link) about doing that. All is still fine and as I note in following posts to this linked one, there is no downside to this mod.

Thanks, yeah I'm thinking it's borked and I'll have to do the job again. Super annoying. I hoped that the PowerFlex on the upper mount would have helped...but I guess not. Lower dog bone engine mount bushing has been ordered from ECS, so I hope to do that this weekend. Then depending on what @ECSTuning comes back with I'll order the latest GP3 version of the engine mount. Maybe do the poly eurothane thing to fill all the gaps.
Might be a couple months out on production, but it has been developed, we have them coming but if your car is down and needs fixed go ahead with the short term fix. Wish i had better news.
All the info you guys put up on those longer term fixes, helps us better the product and what to look out for. Real world testing.

Thanks for the update. If I were to buy the new JCW mount this week would I be able to return it under your Lifetime Replacement program and get the updated version you are making or do I need to buy the same part number?

If you are going to do the lower engine mount and you don’t have a 2 jaw gear puller (or a hydraulic press), get one. That will greatly improve your ability to get the OEM bushing out. I posted previously (a page before this one, maybe) about finding a post about doing it with a 2 jaw gear puller.
Hopefully your new upper engine mount with the PowerFlex bushings in the lower mount will will survive.

@Flyinace2000 Hey, I just noticed in your signature that you list a Clubman S ALL4. Do I assume correctly that this upper engine mount is for that? When I suggested that you replace the bushing for the lower engine mount I wasn’t thinking about doing that on an ALL4. Have you checked to see if the ALL for has the same dog bone lower engine mount as the Hardtop has? I am curious to know as I just recently purchased a 2023 Countryman S ALL4 and was thinking I should replace the lower engine mount on that, if it does have the same one.

Hello,
You would have to reach out to our CS team on that one. I think it would have to fail, they might be able to get you a credit towards the next upgrade. It would be their call.
I just dont want you to wait and then be stuck on a failing and clunking part. Rather have new to get you by till then.
It looks like this lower mount is different for the F60 Countryman. I did some looking and the PowerFlex bushing is listed for the Clubman but not the Countryman…. Hmmmm I guess I’ll just have to wait and see how the upper mount survives on the Countryman.

oh yeah that makes sense. Countryman is a different platform than that F56/55/54.
FYI I ordered from PowerFlex but they were out of stock with a 3-4 week delay. So early June 2026 shipping. ECS had stock and shipped in about a day. Best to confirm with them before ordering if you want it soon.
