F55/F56 GodSpeed coilovers?
GodSpeed coilovers?
Hey everyone, while checking out ECS today, looking for the new thing to upgrade, i came across the godspeed coils. They seem to have the Mono-SS, and Mono Maxx. Any of you all use these on the F5x series? Seem to be extremely decently priced, at $630 for SS, $840 for Maxx. I wanted to ask here before jumping on them. I will not be tracking the car right now, just DD, and occasional spirited driving on windy roads and such for fun. Let me know!
No experience with the product. Did you ask yourself why you need them? Have you done the rear sway bar yet? I just did mine and it is a very definite improvement in handling on the car. Probably get you a lot of extra enjoyment for a lot less cash then a coil over.
Well, i am finally starting to go hard. Got a new FMIC in the car thatll get installed with the forge intake pipes and downpipe soon, and got the JB4 installed yesterday. Figure i should swap to suspension for now, and want a slightly lower car, little more aggressive stance. I plan on the strut brace and 22 or 25mm (havent decided) nm sway bar soon as well. How hard was the sway bar install? I'm still stuck on jackstands until we finally find a house with garage in this market.
I had someone else do the sway bar. It wasn't hard but he didn't follow directions perfectly and I need to correct it slightly or have someone else do it. I put it on stands and tightened some bolts up until I can get it over to a real shop and have them torque everything down. Lying on my back and trying to torque sub frame bolts not fun.
I'm no youngster anymore (read - old) so for me it would have been a chore, but if you are young and spry and can DIY then it isn't really hard.
I went with the solid VIP Custom 23mm bar. Seems like it compares favorably to the NM product for less money.
I think if I was doing suspension I'd go with lowering springs instead of cheap Chinese coil overs. If you do coil overs look for rebuild-able with a solid backed warranty.

Gotcha. Yeah i can easily tackle DIY but time is precious anymore lol. Ill check out that swaybar, and you're probably right. These only one with a 1 year warranty. Maybe ill buy a used pair of a good brand since id like to stay under a grand
This right here. godspeed is a downgrade over stock. Their only purpose is to put a car as low as possible for the absolute least amount of money. They will not last, they will ride terribly, they will not improve cornering. They are for the static stance look only. These are NOT an upgrade.

I've installed them on my clubman project. Although I haven't had the car on the road yet I will say they seem to be built of good quality materials and came with camber plates. There were cheaper options available but these were the cheapest with plates.
I had to buy new struts as a result of a failed one on my car. Since I have sport suspension the struts were almost half what the godspeeds were. Since I was planning on a future upgrade to the suspension the failed strut forced an early purchase or the godspeeds.
I usually do quite a bit of research when purchasing something this expensive. The only bad reviews I could find on godspeeds were from people who have NEVER had them installed or driven in cars with them. I never look for good reviews only bad ones from people who have used the product.
That said my other clubman also has the sport suspension option. To be honest it rides firm to hard. I dont know how godspeed could be worse. You can be sure I will give a fair review of them once I'm up and running.
Have you had these installed on anything you own to have such a strong negative opinion about them?

The reason the OE struts and other well built struts are more expensive is because they use better materials, and put in more design time to test and tune for the application. this upfront cost needs to be recouped so they need to price them higher.
I decided to go with the max because they had more adjustability and seemed to have good reviews from those who have them. I'm not looking to track my car, it won't be winter driven and I had a failed factory strut that had a manufacturer's defect in the chrome shaft. I wanted to lower the car for that "stanced" look and the failed strut had forced me to do it sooner than later. They came with all the parts needed to do the drop so the decision was made easy. By the way I'm also cheap LOL. Actually lets face it, if I bought all high end parts for this car I would have well over twenty grand into a 5000 dollar car. Sorry NO thanks, I paid fifteen hundred for it and I've got a small fortune into it with repairs and restoration. I'm still well under the 20 mark. My rebuild thread is "good god I bought another clubman"
The main question is whether the godspeeds your friend bought were the SS, RS, or MonoMAXX. If they purchased the SS or RS then that explains why it failed the way it did.
Though I have not personally had these on my car, I have a friend who put them in theirs (not a mini). They rode terribly as the spring rates and damper rates were not properly matched for each other nor matched for the car they were sold for. the car was very unsettled in corners and a pain to drive on the road. within a year, the fronts had started to leak oil due to seal failures and the height adjustment threads had completely rusted. It was very obvious that little design effort had been put in to these. after seeing what my friend went through with Godspeeds, i wouldn't even wish them on my worst enemy.
